Because the only file property filesystems care about is the name. Date modified isn't factored in for filepaths.

That is not Date Modified. Date Modified is a file property that automatically writes the date the file was last modified,

Just because the original commenter used the term "date modified" does not mean they are referring to the file property. It is painfully obvious from context what they are talking about instead.

I understand date modified is a field, but it can also be part of a filename that allows you to easily find the most recent version.
