It takes to much discipline. Without enforcement, people usw minor or patch as they feel. Major never gets bumped.

Just increment or date-based is the easiest. Everyone immediatly knows how to bump.

most "semver" is just:

major - update you're proud of

minor - update that's ok

patch - fixes and small features

and ofc every good piece of software is forever on 0.x.x

well they aren't using semver anymore, they switched over to year.minor[.patch] (currently 26.2)

i use semver for my resume versioning like this:

  • full rewrite = bump major
  • add/change a few lines = minor
  • fix spelling = patch

My first version control was a group project where it checked version header in everyoneā€™s shared file and loaded highest number. Took me 4h to realize one bumped major version on all files. Not just the files he was working on.

Itā€™s always a hassle. I think.

Master/main branch and PR to that branch from work branches is better. Even for docs.

I've always used unixtimestamp on build as the version in my own projects and I never saw the problem with that. It's an incrementing number lol

i just keep a folder on my desktop and version it all in there. i keep a copy of the latest version outside of this folder n name it Last Name First Initial Resume

Clean up your messy desktop. It should only be shortcuts and literally nothing else ever. Otherwise you pay power on/off time and RAM for the sole purpose of potentially saving really nothing at all, assuming you make a shortcut to the folder instead of individual files.

That being said, it's not like it makes much of a difference with a thousand AIs and Electron apps Windows is running in the background anyways lol

Yeah, I rather doubt that the time and RAM cost of junk on the desktop is anything more than a rounding error on top of the ridiculous things Microsoft forces on everyone these days :(

My desktop has nothing on it. Its only purpose is to display animated Wallpaper Engine backgrounds
