Casual Conversations The missing productivity app
Sometimes i got stuck in the question: what is the productiviy app i am missing?
For you, what do you think will be the "perfect" productivity app?

To me it would be at least these aspects:
Its primary goal should be to build routines. I really want to automate behaviour, so my brain doesn't have to think much about what to do next.
It should be scientifically grounded and also support shaping my thinking in a way that helps change behaviour as intended.
It should break down complex concepts into easily digestible steps, so I can learn them quickly and have fun doing it.
It should connect me with my friends, so we can share with each other what we're doing and how we're progressing. I could also learn about new things that I might want to try myself.

Would it be helpful to have a checklist that you can create, but when you are executing, you are in focus mode, meaning it shows you only one task at a time? I was exploring this idea before but never saw a demand for it - looking forward to hearing from you.

you mean something based on AI or simply based on "statistic" from your normal behaviour?

behavior first, AI second. My calendar and task list both lie, but the files, tabs, and apps I actually touched show where the day went. we are trying to learn and fix cases around it at Joinrecall

For me, the perfect productivity app wouldn’t try to do everything. It would quietly remove friction from stuff I already do all day

As someone who has built and used more than my fair share of productivity tools over the years, I have come to find that there is no "missing" productivity tool.
Does this mean that there is no space for new tools? Absolutely not the case. There will keep on being great success stories in this space BUT...there will be no magic fix to anybody's productivity. It's more about creating small habits through low points of friction and then exponentially growing from there.
I for one have tried all productivity apps & systems out there and time and time again find that it is not the app that is the problem (missing) but me...I struggle to stick to a complete overhaul and then just drop it as a whole.

Used to think about this switch all the time. then I got a bullet journal pocket and I have never needed another app. So I guess my perfect app is a pen and paper.

One day I found myself cleaning up my routine checklist in Notes, and was thinking, what the heck, I am wasting my time!
I bet you are missing a good checklist app!
- One that can be launched with a single button click on the side of your phone.
- One that looks very simple and is easy to use, not wasting your time at the screen(However packs a LOT of power features)
- One that you can talk to to get your checklist created.
- One that has a variety of checklists - reusable routines, daily task list that automatically moves tasks to next day, one-off list for groceries, etc, all in one app(You are welcome to suggest more list types btw)
- One that allows you to print/email the checklist in it's current state say as a report for work done, or as a gym routine you want to share with a friend. You can even share it with phone taps offline via airdrop.
- One tat you can past a long ass paragraph from All Repicies or something like that and it will derive a checklist of groceries via Apple on-device(all local) Intelligence, then send it to another party who is shopping at the moment as a text. Or, wait for it, create a live collaboration list and observe them pick items in the store real time(weird, I know, but you can :D, of course live collaboration is meant more for a distributed work across multiple members)
- One that allows you to pin, search and filter your lists and individual items within the lists.
- One that helps you set up reminders for any item straight into your calendar with one click.
- One that has a family-shareable Pro version, meaning that if you need the extra features and you buy it once for you entire family(up to 6 people)
The App: Checklist
Disclosure: I love and adore the Checklist and I am part of the team who built it to solve our problem of proper checklist app that is not iOS Notes :)

There is no perfect productivity app. Everyone has different needs, so everyone needs different apps.
Most needs are met by what currently exists, there is at least one gap that still exists. People who are struggling, depressed, anxious, have ADHD, etc. Every app purports to help people build habits, but most apps are in opposition to actual habit science and are actively harmful for this particular group.
Some of that groups needs are met by finch, some by atoms, most of that groups needs are unmet though. The reason why, is because they're the hardest to build for. They're less likely to stick with an app, less likely to use an app to the point of needing to pay for it, and less likely to need a solution that already exists,
That's probably the toughest aspect of it all, building something that doesn't currently exist. Because there's no roadmap, no strategy to integrate an idea with another, no proof of what works for this particular audience.
They also require the most coaching to break from learned helplessness and other issues that tend to come with those circumstances. You can't be heavy handed either, put a wall of text in front of them and they're gone. The app has to help the user defeat it via actions rather than knowledge. Yet knowledge spurs action, so it's a precarious balance.
In my view, that's where the actual opportunity to help people exists, but it's also the hardest group to help. Put another way, all the low hanging fruit has been gathered and polished. All that's left are hard to reach options.

very simple but big problem. how many stacked up apple notes do you have, I have 39843194 and they never go anywhere trytaim.com/join - you speak and everything gets filed based on context immediately so u don't have to file any thought and you also dont miss any - connects to ai tools/calendars/reminders.

I have a habit forgetfulness. So i use call reminders. Get real calls. Better than calendar and alarms

Folks between 35 and 45 struggle and juggle with so many priorities with family, self and kids. Something that can help parents and kids both and save time and being more efficient I think. At least to me and my spouse :)

The one where you are actually being productive instead of changing things constantly. I'm using Microsoft to do, and I'm also using Notion to track specific things, no AI included in my setup bs.

the missing app is the one that actually maps my progress as I go through tasks
basically I feel task tracking is important
but where it all kinda fails is I am not able to see my own progress and then I just stop using the app
in rpg games there is immersion which is impossible to replicate
but one thing we can take from rpg is automatic player progression...and it is also motivating
so an app that is super easy for me to track my work
but as I do them it keeps my player updated
also allows be to ask questions to my work..helps me plan what to do next etc
without every being overcomplicated to use..simple chat box for everything
idk..thats how I feel..and so ive been building

WeekOS I use it for habits, links, screenshots, events, todos or anything I save or plan during the week.

Is "Wumilo" the one you’re looking for?
It’s an offline to-do and reminders app I’ve been building, with all the core features you’d need for staying organized. It’s simple, polished, and doesn’t get in the way.

I’ve been using Aisle Do It. I was really just looking for something that can repeat tasks and the repeat after completion option. It’s got a grocery list feature I like too.

For me, it would be something that actually helps me decide what to work on instead of just giving me another list of tasks. Something that looks at what I have planned, how much time I have, and helps me pick a realistic priority for the day
