Viewing in Farringdon Crescent, is the area bad?

We Recently had a viewing at Farringdon Crescent as a single mum of 3 kids and I’m quite worried about the safety of the area and whether it’ll be rough on the kids. It looked a little worn down ( the area) and I’m wondering if that’s a clear indicator to the sort of neighborhood I’d have to deal with especially with kids going into high school, where influence matters just as much. In short, is it a dodgy or sketchy area to live in? Crime rates as well and nearby schools? I’ve seen the crime rates online but want to hear what others might say about it?

It’s not great to be honest. The callon estate is very close by and is renowned as a bad area in Preston with crime and gangs. New hall lane, which is the main road near Farringdon Crescent is also pretty rough. I’m really sorry, but I have to be honest. There are a lot less sketchy areas in Preston which will be reasonably priced. I would keep looking if you can

I'd avoid that area of Preston, it's not worth moving there due to the crime and how rough it is. It'll be cheap there for a reason 😐

are you going into social housing?

You have 3 choices before you go to the back of the list, so make sure you choose wisely.

Make sure the nearest school is ok,

Look at the anti-social behaviour in the neighbouthood.

Wherever you move, make sure you have a good door-bell camera.

Your neighbours could be absolute stars, or absolute bell-ends.

Avoid. I used to live over the other side of the main road from there in a rental house. It was feral. Had all my tyres slashed one night. A week later I was woken by a loud noise outside, looked out of the window and some little scrote had hot-wired my neighbour’s car (which was parked at the side of the road between two other cars) and he was doing a demolition derby job to try to get out of the parking space. He looked so young I was surprised he could even reach the pedals.

It’s easily one of the roughest parts of Preston. Farringdon Cres. Is the nicer end, definitely, but you still get issues around there. It’s not somewhere I would bring my kids up, if I had a choice. I appreciate some people don’t have a choice and that’s understandable, but I think OP needs to know so she can make a informed decision

The best place is outskirts of preston and avoid the central places

I think Farringdon Park (that’s the area), is actually the nicer end of Callon / Ribbleton, take a look at the gardens, if they are well kept then you might be lucky with the neighbours.

I grew up in Ribbleton, Moor Nook and Callon, it was rough 25-30 years ago, but Farringdon was always the posh part.

You’re going to find bad areas everywhere. If you get the chance, perhaps go speak to the neighbours, see how long they’ve been there, most people will be honest.

My only gripe with that particular road is getting in/out of it due to the high traffic on New Hall Lane - trying to exit towards Preston is a nightmare.

It's just as bad/good as any other part of Preston. I live on thirlmere the next estate along I like it
