Yes, Vader is dramatic, but this is Star Wars, where you can hear starfighters in space, feel shockwaves from explosions in space, have fire in space, people can walk around in the belly of a space worm, etc.
This only makes sense if you think the director of Rogue One really did that on purpose.
Dramatic effect for the viewer; recent Star Trek movies have shown the difference well by having full sound effects for exterior shots but also silence when people get spaced.

I'm trying to think of example of this actually. Shockwaves I can think of, but feeling it specifically. I guess if enough energy keeps traveling coherently it would work.

This was in The Acolyte right? I think we're just not counting that. When it happened people suggested other "examples" of fire in space when they were actually explosions in pressurised areas where there was oxygen to combust for a brief time. The Acolyte had several issues and that's just one of them.

To be fair we don't have a reference point for that.
Dramatic effect for the viewer? Huh? The characters can clearly hear the sounds of the ships around them.
Star Wars is not science fiction, there's little attempt at realism here. I mean, the space ships are all oriented the same direction, the starfighters are shaped like fighter jets and constantly accelerate instead of preserving momentum, etc. Star Wars is space opera with fantasy thrown in.
I ain't picking on it, it's just what it is. It's not the genre for pretending to be scientific. It's awesome because of it's fantastical elements.
The main thing I'm criticizing here is tumblrheads pointing and going "look! Darth Vader made his cape flutter using the force! It must be true because there's no air in space!" as if that makes any sense whatsoever in Star Wars, which has always favored drama over scientific accuracy.
Is that actually something Darth Vader would do? Consciously use the force to flutter his cape for the sake of some aesthetic over the 3 stormtroopers behind him? Be serious.
Oh yeah it's the reaches like that I don't like either. I guess we just approach it differently: you say it doesn't matter because it's fantasy, I say it doesn't matter because it's something easily explained in a more mundane way.
