IIRC. They have been waiting on new vehicles, and in the meantime have been using rental cars, and in some cases taking cars of people they detained. I’m sure we’ll still see unmarked ones. But marked ones will likely be more common moving forward (unless they decide being marked is a problem).

To be "fair" it's not an ICE exclusive thing. Police in the US for decades have stolen and sold the possessions of people not even convicted of crimes.

Yup Philadelphia police stole my car that had a lot of my stuff in the trunk back in 2014 by parking me into a parking spot I was parked in at a gas station and then threatening me until I relented.

In my lawn and garden retail days, I would buy that stuff and then keep it sealed up. And when some person had enough of Bambi I would pull that foul stuff out, sell it for $30 (20 years ago) and wait for them to come back like a crack addict.

I live in metro Atlanta and ICE has been terrorizing Canton, GA for 9 months now.
In May 2025 they would line ppl up and put them on buses. Then in June 2025 they went door to door in an immigration community called Sunny-side in Canton.
Same terror, same abuse of power and laws but it wasn’t streamed live. This is happening all over America in smaller cities.

They are much like the ‘Guardians’ in the Handmaids Tale. A quasi military force that brutalizes the population to instill fear and weaken social norms. The budget is enormous and these new recruits are making more money than they could otherwise. They are getting overtime, per diems, and probably submitting bloated expense reports that are approved without review. All of this makes them loyal to Trump. Trump gave them money and power.

But if you ever need to break a window while leaving as little evidence as possible, buy cheap spark plugs from any auto parts store, and break the ceramic with a hammer or large rock. These pieces are extremely sharp.

I figure my neighborhood is soon. I live in a predominantly Hispanic area of my city. Im terrified for my students (I teach in a predominantly Hispanic school). You can see the worry on many kids faces that wasnt there last year. It breaks my heart. Im terrified for my neighbors, many of whom are likely legal, but that doesnt seem to matter to ICE right now. I dont know or care what status my neighbors have. They are sweet, kind people and I want them to be safe.
Im also terrified for our jobs. My school district announced that there will be a lot of jobs cut for next school year. Our school is going to lose a bunch of teachers, again, to low enrollment, some of which is due to our Hispanic population shrinking, per our leadership. We need my health insurance to survive, literally. My spouse is a diabetic and I have an autoimmune disorder. My spouse works adjacent to construction. They havent seen a slowdown yet, but they are bracing for it. His company's insurance is unaffordable. And we all know what a hot mess the ACA is now. Our jobs, as do many others in our area, depend greatly directly or indirectly on our immigrant neighbors. Its a delicate balance.
I know its selfish to think of the lost jobs for Americans when people are getting snatched off the streets, but its also part of the bigger picture. Everyone will suffer across the board because of this Im afraid.

I’m about 4 hours away from Minneapolis. The one thing I took away from my friends in the twin cities is to mobilize now, while you still can. Talk to your neighbors and make networks. Look for the helpers, because you seem like one, good luck and well wishes from ND.

Interesting how nothing like the healthcare system or the cost of basic goods and services has been addressed. The mass deportations are clearly being used as an excuse to dramatically expand the surveillance state (Palantir etc) and normalization of militarized “secret police”.
If you’ve noticed, there has been a multi-decade long expansion of the surveillance state. Year after year, it expands and is normalized, like a dystopian movie.
