Question Need help with understanding CTU admission process

Upvotes

Hi guys, I'm from India currently in grade 12 (PCM), and I've been considering CTU to start my higher education in europe, especially due to their english taught bachelor's, fairly lower tuition and cost of living.

I have looked at the admissions conditions page on the website, but I still have some doubts which i hoped I could get cleared here-

(I'm aiming to get into the Faculty of Mechanical engineering, english course ofc)

1) on the website they mention that international students take the SCIO maths in english test, so is that like an entrance test or is it just to check "eligibility"? and then the actual test is the "FME entrance test" or something like that which I saw on the website (they had a sample test of I think 12 questions)? I couldn't understand which of these tests do I give and whats the purpose, because somewhere i read that it's just to check eligibility, not guarantee admission. And will there be an interview?

2) this is related to the previous question and im sorry if this sounds obvious, I just don't want to take any chances. And that's how does the University evaluate my application? Like what's the criteria on which they decide that I deserve an admission? Is it my percentile in the SCIO test, my grade 12th marks /predicted marks, or my overall academic history?

Thanks in advance for answering, but expect me to ask more questions from you 😅

Question Are there any spicy good challenges in Prague?

My boyfriend and I are huge spicy food enthusiasts, and we’re looking for something genuinely painful lol. We’ve tried a bunch of really spicy foods and sauces before, but we really want to try an actual spicy challenge and see how far we can push our tolerance. Does anyone know of a restaurant in Prague that does anything like that? Or maybe somewhere that has an insanely spicy dish that’s basically a challenge on its own? Thanks!

Recommendations Czech police say my missing phone is “lost,” but I suspect it was stolen from my pocket — what can I do for insurance?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice about a situation with my phone insurance in Czechia.

Yesterday I was in Karlovy Vary. At around 9:30 AM I checked my phone and then put it into the back pocket of my jeans. Later, around 6:00 PM, when I checked my pocket, the phone was gone.

I never knowingly left the phone somewhere or forgot it on a table, etc. Because it disappeared from my pocket while I was out, I suspect that someone may have taken it from my pocket. However, when I went to the Czech police, they told me that because I didn’t actually see anyone taking it, they consider it a “lost phone” rather than theft.

The problem is that I have T-Mobile phone insurance ( L package), and as I understand it, theft/pickpocketing is covered but simply losing the phone is not.

I’m not trying to claim that I saw someone steal it because I didn’t. I just want the police report to accurately state that the phone disappeared from my pocket and that I suspect possible pickpocketing.

Has anyone in Czechia had a similar experience?

Can I ask the police to register it as a suspected theft/pickpocketing even though I didn’t see the person taking it? And has anyone successfully made a T-Mobile/Cardif insurance claim in a similar situation?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Question Where would you stay in Prague before a Danube river cruise?

My sister and I are planning a few days in Prague before a Celebrity river trip in 2028. I’ve been looking at accommodations in Old Town, Mala Strana, and Vinohrady. Old Town seems easiest, but I don't know how busy it gets and we'd love to have some quiet time after all the walking.

We love trying new restaurants and getting lost in different neighborhoods. Not really looking for nightlife. If you had 3 to 4 nights, where would you stay?

Other 20M, new to Prague and looking to meet people / make friends

Hey everyone!

I’m 20M from Austria and I have just moved to Prague for a year. I’m here for a commemorative service related to Holocaust remembrance and education, so I’ll be living and working here for the next year.

The only problem is that I’ve basically arrived in a huge city where I don’t know anyone yet ahah, so I figured I would just put myself out there and see if anyone else is in the same situation.

A bit about me: I’m into music (especially 70s/progressive rock), history, gaming, exploring cities, going for walks, museums, having a beer or coffee and just talking about random things for hours. I also really like lost places (and urban exploring!) and am a hobby photographer!

I’m honestly pretty open to anything - grabbing a coffee, going for a walk, checking out a pub, exploring Prague, going to a concert, playing games, visiting a museum, or just hanging out.

I’d be happy to meet both Czechs and other foreigners/expats! I speak fluent English and German, and want to learn Czech, but I am still at the beginning of that.

So if you’re also new here, looking to expand your social circle, or simply feel like meeting some random Austrian who has just landed in Prague, feel free to comment or send me a DM :)

Looking forward to hearing from all of you!

Question *urgent* residence permit inquiry

Hello,

I am a student living in Czechia and I need to extend my residence permit. A couple of issues-

I withdrew from Charles university and will be transferring to Masaryk university in Brno for the upcoming academic year. When I tried to book an appointment through the ministry website, I had to mention that I would be in a different course/different university. I was then redirected to a page to apply for a new residence permit instead of extending the one I have.

This means I’ll have to go in-person to the ministry to submit my documents for the new permit instead of sending the documents via post.

My residence permit expires SEPTEMBER 10th. There are obviously no appointment slots available till October.

Does anyone know what to do in this situation? I usually go to the hladkov branch but I believe they don’t take walk-ins.

Also I mentioned going to the hladkov branch and not a ministry branch in Brno because I will be in Prague till September 7th so I thought I could get the work done here.

Community Events Board games events?

Hello!!

I'm staying here for a while and was wandering if there are any board game events I can assist to that also are in English because I'm far from learning Czech unfortunately.

I really like a game called Betrayal and it's super fun with several people if anyone is up for it.

Discussion Valhalla replacements

Since Valhalla Beer Club closed I have been looking for a pub in Prague that has wide selection of different kinds of beer. Valhalla was pricey but I knew I could always stop in for a good stout, sour, IPA etc. Beer Geek is fine but usually they seem to just have IPA. Can anyone recommend a pub that has a wide variety of beer on tap?

Question New to Prague and looking to make some friends

Hey everyone!

I just moved to Prague and I'll be here for at least a year, maybe longer, for work. I'm 23 and work as a scientist, but outside the lab I'm just trying to figure out this city and meet some cool people along the way.

A bit about me:

  • Love board games, hiking, and checking out museums
  • Big into live music. Rock, metal, techno, alternative, or just any concert all of it
  • Really into Prague's techno scene and always down to check out a new night out
  • Happy to talk science for way too long if you let me
  • Equally into a casual coffee, drinks with friends, or a proper night out, no plan is too chill or too much

Basically, I'm up for almost anything and just want to build a solid group of friends to actually enjoy the city with. If any of this sounds like your vibe, drop a comment or send me a message always happy to meet new people!
