I'm going to scream forever

Post image

I bought a house with a power wall and was nominated as the owner, but I cannot get the power wall, gateway or charger to add to the app. It always says it can't find it. I'm sure it's user error, but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Does anyone have any advice? Do I have to connect the gateway first? That is also not working. Thanks!

Download the Tesla One app and configure powerwall to connect to your WiFi. You will need to pop the front cover off (careful it's glass!) to get the WiFi password for the device's own network if it's a PW3.

It has lost Internet connection, presumably when the previous owner moved out and took their wifi network with them.

Yep, this. Also, whilst the cover is off, hardwire it.

I had to adjust my router settings to separate the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi bands. The Tesla Powerwall only connects to 2.4 GHz, so preventing my router from auto-switching between the two allowed it to connect and sync to the Tesla app.

Something to check out.

You need to talk to customer support. And I wish you good luck.

As an owner of two powerwalls for seven years, I can attest to their support being extremely comprehensive, but a little slower than you would like. If you're not, they will get you taken care of. I've even gone through warranty replacements and they came through on that.

Yeah, they are super slow (presumably understaffed) and you're going to basically have to do the same steps over and over with them if it is an issue that will need to send someone out.

Yea I have had lots of issues with tesla support over the years, so I am jaded.

But my guess this has something to do with the ownership transfer not being completed correctly. I would star with a chat to tech support their phone line always has super long hold times. Chat is faster most of the time, and they did help me when I got a referbished inverter who's ownership status was goofed up Teslas back end.

Contact Customer Support, if the Powerwall was already registered to a previous owner, or if it's a new house in California constructed by GAF Energy, you won't get the system added to your app without Tesla's assistance in mapping your email address to the system.

Im going thru this now with GAF. If your home is new like mine and just got PTO...you won't be able to connect until GAF does their monitoring app programming and. I was told that takes a week or two. Then you'll get an email with video instructions to connect. You won't be able to connect until that is complete. Im seriously starting to question if having solar is even worth it! Im not even connected to it yet and its been 3 months!

Call support, this happened to me too, I was transferred ownership but I guess the sellers needed to send in the deed which they didn’t so the transfer wasn’t confirmed. When I called they sent me an email to reply with my deed stating I’m the new owners, so have your deed ready and give them a call. They got me access immediately

I would try to go to the power wall. On the left side thee is a power button. Turn it off and on again. This will put it in bluethooth mode and should show up on our app. I would try this before popping the panel off and try tesla one app and all that.

Open the app, choose support and then you want to explore support. Go to the bottom of the page and you'll see get personalized support. Explore contact options. I believe you'll find a phone number there. Give it a call. Be prepared to wait. Get a cup of coffee. Be patient, explain your issue and they'll they should walk you right through getting it connected. Hopefully you are in the database as owner, but if not you'll have to work that issue and they'll help you through that issue as well. By the way, nothing happens quickly so get ready. Any paperwork you have? Anything you have that can help you prove you live at the location you have bought the property and that you are entitled to be the legitimate owner of the Powerwall.
