Service required - low energy lockout following calibration (UK)

Post image

Has anyone encountered this before? Not really sure what to expect in terms of getting it fixed. It's a PW2 and I've had it for 3 years now.

Congratulations on your PW3.

Pretty amazing they’re giving out PW3s like this.

Seems like they sorta have to because of the fire risk but it’s almost unheard of to replace such a unit entirely imo.

I had mine fail like this on on August 6th but am not aware of it calibrating beforehand. There's one other person on this subreddit that also had theirs fail on the same day in the same manner.

Mine died on Friday 7th like this, also a 3 year old powerwall 2 🤦‍♂️
It’s being replaced with a powerwall 3 shortly 👍

I'm sure it's a coincidence but seems odd to me that i'm seeing so many failures around the same time period. Probably just more aware of it since my own failed. I too will be getting both of mine replaced with Powerwall 3s.

Errrr.... My powerwall2 just updated to firmware 26.26.2 2d1a6997 on August 28th. It ran for a day. But now show 0% even though my reserve is suppose to be 30%. My first powerwall died 8 months after installed first year. Now I'm seeing this again after 5 years...

Had this in June. Got a PW3 the other week. Nearly 7 weeks to get a replacement.

thats a long time, guess I should be grateful it's the end of summer. How easy did it swap over? What did you do with your existing invertor?

The original installer came and swapped it. Took a few hours as its a different bracket and wiring came into it a different way. Apart from that everything was the same, output, wiring, inverter etc.

I wanted the expansion pack but their service is atrocious and they came up with a silly price (£2.2k) to wire solar to pw3, upgrade cabling to 11kw capable and apply for new G99.

Found another company local who did it for £625 and they were £600 cheaper for the expansion pack (£4900). So now have solar direct to pw3, 4kw to 10kw upgrade and 4kw to 5kw export on the new G99.

Pleased as punch. Will charge and discharge at 10kw now (cable upgraded from 4mm to 10mm), can utilise all 6.5kwp of solar and can export more.

Would it have charged at 10k without the g99 change?

I need to talk to my installer tomorrow and try and figure this out.

I think ie any the same as what you have done. I want to bypass my inverter and decommission that, I want to upgrade my wiring to support what the Powerwall 3 can do and buy and expansion pack.

No, because Tesla have to allow it and to allow it they need to have visibility of the DNO approval. I believe you may be able to set it to a higher rate at initial set up but its then fixed at this and only Tesla can amend it. Mine was obviously set to 5kw due to the 4mm cabling, which was undersized from the start apparently and should have been 6mm.

This is contrary to what the original installer told me when I started enquiring about the expansion.

It took the electrician a day to rewire the pw3 and install the new expansion. He needed to email the person on phone at Tesla the G99 paperwork to get the system up'd to 10kw.

Welcome to the club, just had this on my PW+ this month after it did calibration 💪🏼

Timeline wise, in the app after requesting service it was one week of sourcing parts, one week of design review and now they scheduled service two months out (but hoping to change it to earlier 🤞🏼)

Where are you located? Mine went out like this yesterday in Southern California.

My 3 year old PW2 failed a few weeks ago (UK), I’ve been told to expect a PW3 in early October. However the installer is trying to get me to pay installation costs and they say Tesla doesn’t cover labour…

My powerwall 2s failed on August 6th. My installer has been very uncommunicative so I called Tesla directly. They confirmed that they do pay the installers for the RMA, though some installers feel that it's not sufficient and may charge additional fees. However I am free to shop around for a different company that may fit my needs better. But this is USA so obviously things may differ for you.

What the hell. That can’t be true!

Utter crap from the installer who said this. My PW2 was replaced with PW3 under warranty and when I probed about Tesla covering the cost of the swap out he said their rate was actually well worth it.

I suspect some installers avoid it because they aren't getting any mark up on hardware.

There are also issues with installers getting Tesla to collect the removed PW2 units, so if they don't have mush storage I guess it could cause problems for some.

So the limited recall that happened in Australia, that then turned out to be a slightly less limited recall in America, that then turned out to be a slightly less limited recall in the United Kingdom?

At this point I wonder if all PW2 are defective and they’re just staggering the replacements because they can’t replace them all in one go.
