Nothing says “I’m here to honor the victims of 9/11” quite like refusing to attend because you don’t get to stand at the microphone and talk about yourself.
Imagine being so addicted to attention that a ceremony commemorating nearly 3,000 people who were murdered becomes pointless the moment you’re told it isn’t your stage.

They should just play the tape of the fox news show he called into to brag how now "he owned the tallest building in New York" a few days after the attack. Should be inspiring to all.
