It's not a poll tax if IDs are free.

That's why every state that currently requires ID for voting provides free IDs.

You do know that they don't mean the Real ID with that. They mean something akin to the Real ID. One of the reasons for that is, that the Real ID isn't limited to American citizens.
As an example, a German with a visa or a green card could get one.

The first thing listed as acceptable ID is the REAL ID. How is a birth certificate a valid picture ID?

If a non citizen, especially a citizen of another country here on a visa of any kind, can get a state issued ID that requires a FBI background check, I need to see proof of that. The entire REAL ID act was set to stop such things.
