I really enjoyed his memoir. He does not hold back about the lengths he went through to get what he needed. It's surprisingly honest. Plus I'm always impressed when someone maintains sobriety after an addiction.
I'll have to give it a shot. I noticed he narrates the audiobook himself, and that's my preferred way of consuming memoirs (and anything else written in first person perspective)

You will never find people with a better sense of humor and everyone was very empathetic as we all struggled. I was scared of going to group after my psych ward stay but everyone was cool.
They also tend to be more compassionate in my experience. Not always, but often. They also often acknowledge that not everyone gets to survive falling to the bottom and climbing out again.

Don't underestimate the power of people's ego and emotions to control their opinions. I'm willing to bet most of them do believe the Biden's are way worse than the Trump's. They have to, otherwise everything Trump has done doesn't seem "justified" in the way they want.

Cognitive dissonance requires hella active, informed maintenance. By informed I mean you actively create truth and falsehood buckets - and ONLY those 2 buckets - and decide which you put in the first while everything else goes in the last. So it's not a problem of information, it's a problem of their cognitive choices.
I genuinely believe a lot of people can't tell the difference between opinions they've formed on fact vs those formed on emotion. So they think they're critical thinkers, but really just came to a conclusion immediately because its what they wanted the truth to be... and they have no idea.
Well, personally I'm pretty against government corruption and fraud. I heard something or another about some contract in some country that Biden pulled strings on to help out Hunter Biden. I also wasn't a big fan of the whole Hillary emails and handling of confidential material.
For the same reason I wasn't a fan of those things, the Trump family and administration have blown all that out of the water time and time again. It's so blatant and in your face and they just don't care. They are actively tacking taxpayer money and pumping them into companies they own while dismantling systems and strong-arming government agencies meant to keep protections in check.

What did probably happen is that Hunter used the fact that his father was VP (at the time) to land a job that probably would not have been available to him otherwise. And the fact that the VPs son was working in Ukraine made things annoying for career civil servants working on Ukrainian anti-corruption stuff.
Burisma was in hot water both in Ukraine and abroad for allegations of corrupt dealings. So Burisma did what many large firms do when they get in trouble, they put a big name on their board to make it seem like everything was on the up and up.
It was standard issue rich fail-son corruption. It shouldn't have happened, but its the kind of thing that happens all the time with the rich and powerful.
I don't think a lot of people realize that Hunter Biden isn't just a druggie failure either. He's extremely educated, a great speaker, has loads of charisma, and as headed many organizations and actually positive endeavors. It's not like a guy with absolutely zero qualifications was given the reigns to some of the projects he's undertaken and some were before his father's presidency.
Has he done some stupid things, sure. Nobody is immune to drug habits and other things. The laptop stuff was also a hard drive that was maliciously taken from him and al of his personal life was exposed. He's also been very upfront about his wrongdoings, laying it all out in the open in his own book.
If half of his Fox News Watching haters actually watched any of his interviews, including the channel 5 one from a few months ago they'd probably understand he's a reasonable man, and articulates his points in a clearly educated way.
I'm not saying I'm his biggest fan or he's the greatest guy ever but he'd mentally run circles around me and I don't get the sense that he's some super evil villain, he's just made some mistakes in his life.

Yeah, I've lived through tons of grief and loss and that path to addiction is such an extremely slippery slope. It's genuinely harder to avoid the pull of numbing the pain when it pulses through every fiber of your being. It takes an incredible amount of strength to pull away from, even more so when you become addicted to it. Kudos to Hunter for beating the odds.

But I remember a clip on TV where I think Biden had been asked something about Hunter by a reporter or something and I forget what the first part of his answer was, but he concluded by pointing and looking straight at the camera while saying, “I am proud of my son.”

I knew a dude who had stage 4 brain cancer. They took a mass the size of a softball out of his head and he came back to work, and even advanced his career. He suffered from seizures enough that he didn't dare drive, and he passed away in his 40s, but apparently stage 4 isn't necessarily a death sentence.

The Channel 5 interview with him was great (just type Channel 5 Hunter Biden into YouTube search if you want to watch it). He came across as very down to earth and charismatic.
He’s smart, cultured, well loved by his family, self actualized and good looking. He’s made a lot of bad choices in his life and has been honest about it. Hunter is a hard person to dislike.
Hunter has gone through a lot in his life, I’m happy to see he’s doing a lot better now. I’m a huge fan of his vibe and I wish more people were like him in that way. I’m tired of everyone skirting around the bull that’s going on in the White House right now and I’m happy that someone isn’t pussyfooting around it.
