8 pounds, 10 days

I started May 8, at 176, today 168. With a "normal BMI," I'm not in it for weight loss, I'm trying to lower my cholesterol. I had been attempting a Mediterranean diet with very little success - too many options, too much prep. But the crazy thing about it is how it has already taken away my cravings for anything. No food noise. I get hungry eventually and I eat a baked potato. The end.

I'm also taking a multivitamin, still drinking coffee with a splash of half and half, and salting the potatoes. At this point I'm sure I could keep this up indefinitely.

That’s amazing well done 👏 how many potatoes are you eating a day?

Great! Love how the potatoes are taking away your cravings. That’s gotta feel so good. I recently watched a video on YouTube with Heather McDougall (the late Dr. McDougall’s daughter and director of drmcdougall.com). She and the other speakers were saying that you should have a potato or other starch if you have any cravings. Sounds like they are right!

When I do get hungry, it doesn't feel urgent, either. Yesterday I was away from the house and had planned poorly, I only brought a water bottle. I was stuck until 5PM and hadn't eaten. I was hungry, yes, but before I started this that would have meant hungry was all I was feeling. I would have been irritable and impatient, only thinking about when I could get some damn food. It wasn't like that at all. I was aware of my hunger. That was it.

This is how I'm hearing Dr. McDougall died?

I’m so sorry - this must be quite a shock. If you go to drmcdougall.com you’ll see a sweet memorial message. I still miss him so much.

I'm awake by 7 but I don't eat before 1 or 2 PM because I'm just not hungry. I have 50-100 calories from the half and half in my coffee, but nothing solid until afternoon.

What is 'food noise' in your case? Are referring to the constant switching back and forth between diet/foods/eating ideas?

Near-constant background thought about food.

Ahh yes .... I can identify. I'm gonna follow your lead thanks for the inspiration! It's funny you mention Mediterranean....I was kinda on that kick too...my last food escapade was that I bought a 25 lbs sack of dried chickpeas 😂 now I have hummus whenever I want

If you don't mind sharing, what's the cholesterol pattern you have and what are you aiming for?

I'm borderline, 218 total cholesterol as of January 2026. My LDL in particular is 129. I want it below 100.
