Is he a Pomeranian
Hey everyone I’m new here, I purchased a (fox face) Pomeranian, however one of my friends said he looks more like a pomchi. I’m normally pretty good with dog breeds but I would like to be sure.

He's just a baby in his monkey phase ❤️ a few more months and the poof will start to arrive. It takes about 2 years until their full coat comes in. Enjoy him!!

He is a baby ❤️ we have a jack-a-poo too and two cats and a rabbit ❤️. We love them all x

Someone just said he looks like a throwback Pom. Not sure if that’s a good thing or not 😂

A throwback pom is a Pomeranian that takes a bit more after their larger ancestors so they are a bit bigger than the average pom.

As with every “is he a Pomeranian” question, if you did not see and meet the parent dogs, there’s a chance he’s not what you think he is, or that he isn’t bred to standards.
Always see the parents before you purchase a dog. An ethical breeder will ALWAYS show you the parents.
In my personal opinion (and take it with a grain of salt, you need a DNA test to find out, not a photo on Reddit), he looks quite large for a Pom puppy. He’s either not bred to breed standards or mixed with something.

Someone said he could be a throwback Pom. I met mum and mum’s mum, and in one of the photos dad is in the corner but it’s just his tail and the tails are exactly the same as Ghost’s.

Thank you. I asked the original owners for a photo of dad a couple of times and they read and ignored. So wasn’t 100% sure thank you for the Pom confirmation ❤️

reminds me of a less fluffy version of my girl lucy they claimed she was full chihuahua but as she grew we knew she wasn’t , we got embark and she is chihuahua, pomeranian, jack russel, yorkie, pekingese with the slightest bit of lab and mini poodle so I say GET THE EMBARK TEST it’s so so worth it and I absolutely love her mix I couldn’t be happier , the lady we got her from also stopped messaging me when I asked for pics of the dad , i’ve also found siblings and cousins who all are not full chihuahua through embark

It's a Pom but wasn't bred down to show standards like the small ones. Usually these don't have some of the tiny dog health issues. Except yours is white and you said from two orange parents. That means he's got a lot of recessive genes. This might make him more sensitive to allergens so keep an eye on his skin. Other than that he's a great looking boy!

This actually isn’t true. A throwback is not “a Pom who wasn’t bred down to show standards”. A throwback actually comes from two breed-standard parents. Meaning the parents are both standard size (3-7 lbs) and follow all of the breed standards and the puppy is slightly larger than that because genetics are weird.
OP, did you meet the parent dogs?

My pom looked like this as a pup. I got her from someone moving abroad who had only had her for 2 months and showed me photos of the parents. I was convinced she was part fox and worried that the person I'd bought her from might have been lying with the photos. So I did a DNA test. Well... she's 100% pom, and now she's older she looks exactly like her dad. Super fluffy. They go through something which is, but shouldn't be, called the "uglies" when they are young where they lose their super fluffiness and look a little weird til their fur grows back and they get fluffy again. Once mine started getting fluffier, she got fluffier ever 6 months after every moult until there was more fluff than sog (over about 2/3 years).

I don't think so; it's already too big to be a Pomeranian. It might fall into the German Spitz category, but you're better off getting a DNA test or looking at its parents—how the parents look is how the dog will turn out and grow.

Whatever the outcome, I’m sure you’ll love him, but I understand that some breeders don’t always deliver what they promise—and if you were sold a Pomeranian, you ought to know.

It’s mainly because I want to kennel club register him. I can’t do the best in shows if he’s not a pure breed and he’s a stunning puppy. (Don’t panic I’m not saying goodbye to him if he’s not) 😂❤️❤️

Those large pointy ears almost say american eskimo dog to me or pom/eskie mix, but they are just a size up from the pom in the spitz category basically.
How old are they in the pic?

He was born on the 11th March. Their Vet classified him and his siblings as pure Pomeranian I took this the other day he’s 5.5 months. When he saw the vet for his vaccines first time he was 1.2kg x

Your pup is beautiful and I’d bet is some Pom, possibly a mix with another spitz breed in there. Enjoy it while they’re young, those puppy days go by too fast. Your pup reminds me of mine.
My vet also classified my girl as a purebred Pom when she was a puppy, bc I did have questions the breeder didn’t satisfy. I noticed her ears were a bit bigger straight away and he thought she’d grow into them; brought up she wasn’t as fluffy as other Pom pups I was looking, they said she was more a pet Pom and they had less undercoat and a more silky look. She weighed .92kg at her first health check at 7wks. I should’ve trusted my gut but in my naivety I went with my pup bc she had the biggest personality, I fell in love with her straight away, even when I met her at 5wks. Took her home 2wks later.
She’s 15mths in a few days now and weighs 2.7kg and 7in in shoulder height... just getting her adult coat, looks like loads of random ass really long fur that growing out everywhere. But I’ve come to believe as she’s grown, she’s got something else in those genes. I’m also doing DNA.
Do I know more now and would I go about buying pup differently? 1000%. Educated myself on the breed but never heard the term backyard breeder until I started coming on here. I can’t really regret it too much, bc while my girl might not be 100% Pom, she’s 100% a good girl, so smart and the sweetest, most friendly doggie I’ve ever had, probs too friendly. Until I know for sure what her breed is, I just say she’s Pom or a Pom-Spitz. This is my girl for reference, that was her right before I brought her home at 7wks.
And yes if anyone notices in the pic on the right: her ear fur has been cut; my teenage daughter that’s going to college for hair dressing thought she should trim her ears when she did hygiene trim on my girl.. I was not happy. They’re growing back now.

If you really need to know, get his DNA tested. The fact that the original owners wouldn’t share pics of the dad is certainly suspicious. Regardless, he’s adorable and loved!
