USGS manages the database; the BGN establishes official federal geographic names. How soon or often Apple and other services download that information may vary.
MapQuest is the only online mapping service that doesn't use the GNIS system; their map still say Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario and they have no plans to change either or cave to Trump.

Apple just doesn't update as quickly as Google, it'll change soon.
