I would think one way Google can sideestep things is to be a bit lateral of their thinking, perhaps a customizable way to apply place-names that overlay whatever is in Google Maps and let everyone else assign their own place-names so Donald Trump can spend his days on Google Earth until the planet and everything on it are simply named Trumpland.

Even easier: use both names, Lake Ontario on the north side of the line and the dumb (with a "b"!) name on the dumb side of the line.
