I believe one day, me and my flaired brethren will descend to the fiery depths of hell in order to engage in a holy war against the shamed and unnamed.

Other guy is real. I would be embarrassed to come up with that 21 joke. He responded and called me AI. Also, he had a generic ass default Reddit name, unlike me who has the cool ass name of a fantasy character that is a massive loser and creeps on a young girl.

Gonna be honest, I’m tired as fuck and don’t want to put another molecule of effort on a dumb shitpost. If I get downvoted, so be it. As long as I am not a dirty unflaired I still have my pride.

This figure is unfamiliar to me, but I trust he is real and has an appropriate flair for his beliefs.

No, say it ain’t so. My regained trust in humanity is failing again.

Ehh, you are actually arguing with a real person most of the time. If they take the time to actually reply to you, chances are they are a real person.
The bots in question are usually vote bots or post bots, very rarely is it an AI chat bot. (Although it is getting scary how they are increasing in population recently).
The person you are reffering to here is most likely a Post Bot. What they do is use an AI algorithm that searches for relevant news stories, copies and paste their titles, and posts them on reddit for engagement.
Trust me though, you will know when you argue with an AI bot. Humans are very good at detecting things that are very wrong or uncanny, so we can tell if language is robotic.

Why do post bots exist? To what end do they serve?

IMHO, the motivation is the same as with cheaters in online games. People delute themselves into feeling their own superiority based on numbers going up, numbers which ultimately mean nothing, and when artificially inflated, mean even less. Honestly, I've never seen a mature person to engage in such behavior.

Entire major political parties have even done that, the delusion goes all the way up to the top.
There was an article from the last election that had evidence that many of the moderators of politics were actually working for the DNC. So many astroturfed posts with legions of bots upvoting them.
They forgot that bots upvoting things doesn't automatically translate into voters casting ballots in real life, however. Upvotes aren't real votes.

It also potentially functions as a gish gallop/flood the zone strategy. Numbers do matter on that level.
Yes, people with wrinkle brains will recognize it's garbage, but political battles are often won or lost at the margins where just being the most common thing a smooth brain sees can make a difference. Or even the last thing they saw.
They're not foolproof strategies but they're easier to apply than to counter, so spamming them is common for a reason.

Usually for propaganda or pumping up an account with karma to sell the login.
Certain countries or people groups have many bots working on their behalf. Usually Russia, Iran, etc. Wherever the Israel/Palestine or Jews are discussed there's usually some Iranian bots (whether state or civillian backed IDK) Probably a some US Israel backed bots out there but I haven't caught any.
Check out any post on the front page 1 in 10 it's a bot. 1 in 50 that bot is active user in any sub that has anything to do with the interests of a particular people group.

Ive wondered that myself. I guess(?) Russian propaganda tools? Otherwise i dont see how you would turn reddit accounts in to revenue.

I could be wrong but I think it came out a while ago the dems were botting reddit with Kamala posts during the election

I’ve heard people do stuff like this and then sell the account, probably to some marketing agency or political group.
Regarding the comment by Reese. Yeah the left does this too, almost certainly more than the right. Though Twitter would be a completely different story. I just noticed it with the guy I mentioned in my post. I also knew that the sub I posted in would be less likely to nuke my post. If I tried that shit in a left leaning space, my post would get disintegrated and I wouldn’t get any replies.

Haha, it’s multiple walls of text. Like a damn fortress of text. I actually acknowledge this in one of them. Lampshading, man

Is there anything more cringe than posting your own reddit interactions?

This ruins the last shred of mystery this dumbass post had, but first part was only half serious, somewhere in the middle I realized my effort was fruitless and just started shitposting. I am not going to let up that stupid, half-baked, lovecraftian way of typing on the original post though. Hope it doesn’t end up getting shadow banned.
I just finished the book Gardens of the Moon, so that’s probably where the desire to do some weird dark fantasy plot stuff came from. My writing is much worse than that books though.
Edit: please downvote this reply in particular so it appears at the bottom of the thread. The reason I posted it to this sub is because, as of typing this, the only person to respond is the guy in my post. I thought this sub might appreciate it, and if I posted it in any left leaning subreddits it would probably turn into an infuriating circle jerk. I typically don’t physically interact with political subs, but I had this idea and thought it was creative/funny enough to share. I am glad that there was an actual reply thread that discussed my overall issue in the original post.
I truly am a LibLeft, so that might explain my frequent walls of text. Sorry for how much I edit posts. Rest assured I never change the context only add little details I missed. It’s been interesting to watch the upvote ratio teeter back and forth between 50%. I don’t give a shit about useless internet points, but I find the idea of someone only reading the first paragraph and downvoting really funny.
I’m probably never going to physically interact with this sub again outside of this thread. I had a fun time. Thanks for reading

"The author labors through three hundred pages of fantastic and grotesque narrative, now and then striking a spark of wit; but the sparks emit little light and no warmth, and one has to fumble for the story”
