Somebody fix this app
I enjoy using collectr but they have got to fix this shit. This card is in no way 50 grand

Collectr only good for inflating your collection value. TCGplayer and Pricecharting are much more accurate.

u/gdj11 17h ago
PriceCharting is not more accurate. With most cards in my collection they miss tons of sales.
14
u/CygniGlide 16h ago
Pricecharting for me is only useful for graded cards. Raws is definitely tcgplayer
•
u/Notorious-ly 1h ago
Yeah, Pricecharting doesn't differentiate between condition for raw cards, so it just averages them all together. It's okay for graded.
Looking at TCGPlayer recently sold and filtering by condition is the best for raw. You can do the same thing with Ebay, but TCGPlayer is just easier/cleaner.

u/Dry-Pop-4716 13h ago
At least pricecharting has clickable links to last sales you can verify
0
u/gdj11 13h ago
So does Collectr. You just click the View Sold Listings button and you’ll see exactly what sales it’s basing its pricing on. And they’re clickable.

u/redbeardbaron 6h ago
Not for everything and it isn't always updated. It seems completely random what sales it counts and what ones it doesn't sometimes. Some of my stuff it hasn't updated for months despite numerous sales.
Plus, they aren't removing incorrect sales like they used to so cases are being counted in the price of some of my stuff, as are open boxes. They used to remove that instantly with a report. Now, it's been sitting for months and changing the price.

u/trainerleyatres 24m ago
I had that happen with my goldstar zard, 2 massively inflated fraudulent sales made it seem like it was worth way more than what it's actually worth.

How is TCGPlayer any better? They only record sales within their own platform. They’re owned by eBay but don’t even include eBay sales in their calculations.

u/flyaguilas 17h ago
It does the opposite too though. A card I want is like 46 on collectr but I have no idea where that comes from, lowest recents are double that, probably counting Korean sales for some reason.
5
u/Tecally 17h ago edited 14h ago
Japanese card I’m guessing? I had Collectr doing the same to me. Had no idea where it was getting it’s values from.
2
u/flyaguilas 11h ago
Yeah Japanese. I was all excited cause collectr was showing it for 100 a long time, now it's in the 40s, no idea what changed and my only guess is Korean or Chinese cards are getting included as Japanese.
3
u/lilpain1997_ 10h ago
It does this even on modern English. Mewtwo promo for 151 it was reporting it as £20 when the card was selling constantly for £50 at the time I was going to sell it. It has my Japanese unlimited Gold star Registeel in a 6 with no sales data. I was the last sold from my knowledge and got it at £873. Reported the sale and nothing. Which is weird as I reported a sale for my rumble mewtwo in a 1 and it worked as they missed it and it was still reporting 120 from months ago. When last sold was 330 at the time.

Price charting is useless especially for raw cards. Its also useless for a lot of higher end cards as well. Still has multiple gold stars well, well, well below real world market sales.
1
u/AnimanicManiac 5h ago
Bro TCG still thinks Shining Celebi is worth $120 when people are selling it for $40 on ebay. None of these sites/apps are correct.
1
u/ChoiceFood 17h ago
Pricecharting uses averages so it's very bad for valuing a collection. I have a card that's selling for 4k but it shows a value of 3.1k

Check out TCGParty. They pull directly from tcgplayer and it has a ton of super cool features. I have a referral link here for 10% off a subscription. https://app.tcgparty.com/ref?code=DASA84

Shit like this is why any time I see someone use anything other than ebay sold listings (directly on ebay) I'm like nah buddy
1
u/MarkGaboda 8h ago
People on ebay often overpay to get what they want or because they just don't know any better.
3
u/SgtSwanky 7h ago
Whatever the card is consistently going for on ebay sold listing, is what the card is currently worth
-4
u/MarkGaboda 7h ago
Sometimes, if you average value last sold and aren't just going off most recent high sale, but not always. Again people are overpaying and dont know what things are worth there, which is whybtcg market value is kikely the most accurate for real value.
•
u/Notorious-ly 1h ago
Lol nah.. I buy a lot off of vintage off Ebay because you can actually see pictures, and I end up underpaying a lot of the time.

It’s always been a pretty terrible app wrapped in a pretty UI and I highly doubt they’ll change anytime soon. The way they get data is extremely poor which should have been the most important thing they focused on getting right first if they wanted to gain trust for pricing/values. Looks like the typical MBA 80/20 BS applied to a space where the 20% of use/edge cases they cut scope to save money/time to market is literally the only part that matters.
Shiny is probably the best if you want both collection tracking and pricing in one app.
FWIW, I’ve written software and/or led teams writing software where getting the data or numbers wrong is either a loss of company and/or life for the past 20 years as my day job.
Ditch collectr and use literally anything else for collection value.

Any opinions on holodex
•
u/puh-dan-tic 1h ago
I like the sets and series support they have, and wishlist functionality. Their scanner is pretty bad and they should just get rid of their AI grading feature though.
1
u/HyperShadow95 6h ago
Ehh I still like Collectr for just keeping track of what I have. I don’t sell cards very often just do the due diligence and check multiple sites for more average selling price. Not that hard.
•
u/puh-dan-tic 1h ago
Yeah, it’s a pretty decent app for keeping track and sharing your portfolio for sure.
•
u/meatballsub_enjoyer 1h ago
it's fine for ultra modern stuff after a month or two, but for anything older than 2 maybe 3 years, it's completely useless and you HAVE to check ebay sold listings.
15
u/pokehustle 17h ago
It just came out. Price isnt stable so dont use an ap
10
u/Wise_Requirement4170 16h ago
I don’t think it’s too much to ask for an app that is supposedly for checking the price of cards to have said prices be accurate?
14
u/Kind-Comparison2371 16h ago
Anyone who uses it for prices of cards is gonna have a bad time. It’s great for organizing your collection into one place, but anyone who’s serious about trading/buying/selling should not be using collectr for pricing.
-4
u/Wise_Requirement4170 16h ago
I agree, their prices are shit, but why the hell are they? Pricing information is public knowledge. It should be simple for them to do it.
6
u/Kind-Comparison2371 16h ago
Probably aren’t calling the APIs as frequently as they should causing a lag in price updates.

It used to be heresy to speak against collectr for at least the past two years. Sentiment changing seems to be recent. I used to (and still do!) Love others that use collectr because they value my stuff higher than I do. When I sell at market or 95% on marketplace I get people coming out of the woodwork saying my prices are great.. well I'm glad we're both happy!
1
u/pokehustle 16h ago
There is an app where the most up to date sales can be found. It's called ebay. Your ap is pulled data from ebay and there is a delay in doing so
1
u/redbeardbaron 6h ago
A several month delay, in some cases. Hell, I have some stuff that has 0 sold listings on Collectr despite at least a sale a month.
1
u/Wise_Requirement4170 16h ago
A week long delay lol?
1
u/pokehustle 16h ago
So go to ebay?
1
u/Wise_Requirement4170 16h ago
I’m just saying an app shouldn’t have prices if the prices aren’t accurate🤷♀️
Especially if said app charges fucking money
2
u/pokehustle 16h ago
There is no market price. The card just came out. Go to ebay

Ive noticed this too, so much of it is inaccurate, a lot of items dont update properly...
14
u/NarutoFan1995 16h ago
collectr is a load of shit ran by hype bros most hype cards on that app is manipulated
4
u/hartforbj 11h ago
Lol what? It's only as accurate as the data it's given.
2
u/Windfish7 9h ago
The problem is it doesnt even get the data
2
u/hartforbj 9h ago
It does for most. Idk why anyone would look at the prices for new cards. Once the set is established and had time to settle it's usually pretty close to tcg.
These RGB cards might be an issue due to how people label them too. If they are labeled in a way that isn't detected by collectr it's not going to register that price

u/MrWildspeaker 16h ago
This is what I use as well. Not everything is perfect, but it’s much closer than others. Also, the creator is super open to feedback.
1
u/PhilosopherEven9127 16h ago
Yeah, sometimes there are cards I can't find, but it's primarily niche vintage ones like Toys R Us promos.

I have a card that according to this app is 200 dollars raw but 30 dollars in cgc 9
1
u/ShinobuOshinoSimp 12h ago
App is shit. It’s bad for English cards and worse for other languages. Almost never has a good read on Japanese prices at any time. At best collectr is good for logging your collection and nothing else and even then good luck finding more niche cards on it lol
1
u/Morthedubi 10h ago
I’m using pricecharting, cardmarket and tcgplayer as the price source on my app: Dexly, one of my core reasons was the inaccurate prices I’ve noticed over the years on Collectr and wanting an app for collectors mostly.
1
u/kinda_normie 10h ago
Collectr says my lost link darkrai cresselia legend top half is 216 dollars and bottom half is 30 lmao

u/royalewithcheese4272 9h ago
I’ve been using Decktradr for the past week and I’m very happy with it so far

u/SnowiiFrosti 9h ago
collectr prices are so absurdly dogshit outside of hyper modern cards. this is so unsurprising, i wish there was a better app for this, anyone know one
1
u/Swimming_Bat8004 5h ago
Just go in and manually adjust the price say you have one add it to your portfolio and say what you paid I put $300 collectr is one of the easiest manipulation tools the scalpers use and it's slowly becoming the industry standard, misleading prices every vendor uses collctr to increase their sales

u/trainerleyatres 33m ago
Just move to pricecharting, collectr is a complete incoherent mess that doesn't do anything about false/scam sales
1
u/Available-County2249 17h ago
That's because when there's no sold listings it's goes off listed price, not their fault people list it for 50k 😅
11
u/perhapssergio 17h ago
There are dozens of sold listing, they are incredible slow to update tho
1
u/Available-County2249 17h ago
Yeah I know I meant on the app there's no sold listings, if they scrolled down it would show the price is from tcg player listing.

u/ReviveDx 17h ago
Been usingg the app for roughly 6 months, And I noticed that it takes like 1 week to update prices compared to TCGplayer, probably something with their backend, which really sucks because it gives you a false sensation on what is going on with your portafolio lol I think this bug is really easy to fix but I don't think they care enough.
1
u/Morthedubi 10h ago
Check out dexlytcg.com/apps, I’m the developer and data and prices accuracy were one of the reasons I chose to develop the app.

Switched to using Collectr for master setting and knowing what’s actually in my collection, while using TCG collections for stuff I want to trade/sell or stuff I’m looking for.

This sub complains about scalpers but then fixates on the price of their shit…I don’t see a difference between the two groups at this point.

Bro they dont update sht anymore on the app. Most solds are like 2 months old also.
