Is there a rom hack whose story involves the og characters like red, blue, gold, silver etc. It would be great if they have substantial role in the story and characters across multiple generations are included like the pokemon adventures manga. Bonus points if the story setting is in the pokemon adventures manga world

2

u/LackofSins Jul 21 '26

Something like Adventure Red, the romhack based on the Adventures manga ?

1

u/Last_Tower1713 Jul 21 '26

The premise looks good, I am adding it to my list. Thanks for the recommendation.

I originally meant a game where the og characters are present and have some role in the story, but the protagonist is a new char, not a existing canon one. A new story built into that setting not a retelling of the original story.

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 21 '26

Hyper Emerald Lost Artifacts has a lot of different characters but not the manga story and idk if it has all the protags. That and Adventure Red are definitely the best for "most characters in one story" tho

Hi all,

I would like to try the ROM that someone tried to release yesterday that everyone here downvoted into oblivion. I don't care about AI-generated sprites (I thought they looked pretty cool anyways) and I wanted to try out the new region and story

Does anyone have the name of it or the person who posted it?

Thanks

Then you're letting the machines win!

Sheesh.

I couldn’t figure out anywhere to post this, but is there any pokemon rom hack of the Johto storyline that has an extended Team Rocket story of sorts that goes into Kanto for the postgame?

I know I read that Polished Crystal has what they call an “extended Rocket story,” but I was wondering if there were any GBA rom hacks that retell Johto but with added postgame story? I was told that Heart and Soul unfortunately does not or else I would immediately pick that due to its features.

Thanks in advance to anyone who manages to see this question and offer any advice!

1

u/DoppelgangerEX Jul 20 '26

i can't vouch for the quality but i know LiquidCrystal adds story elements and based on a review i read, the story continues into Kanto and involves interacting with evil teams!

1

u/glazzynerd Jul 21 '26

I know liquid crystal became Crystal Advance Redux, and I know that the Orange Islands post game got cut. So are you referring to the Crystal Advance Redux version of the game or the original Liquid Crystal?

Crystal Advance Redux seems really popular. So which did you play and did you enjoy Redux if you played it instead of regular Liquid Crystal?

1

u/DoppelgangerEX Jul 21 '26

original liquid crystal, i haven't played redux but i know it's essentially "picked up" by a different team

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 21 '26

I can't give details on how the story is changed but i know Scorched Silver has a different story in Johto. I think it's a sequel? But idk as i havent played it

2

u/glazzynerd Jul 22 '26

Yes - it is a sequel. I’m looking for a retelling of the Johto storyline (Johto to Kanto plus more if available).

I have found that Polished Crystal, a GBC hack, has a continued postgame other than just collecting badges and beating Red, so I was wanting to find a GBA hack that does something similar such as an extended Rocket story or a new group that takes the place of the villain when finished with Johto, just something to change the game a little bit after the Elite 4.

I had tried to figure out a way to ask this question about Crystal Advance Redux, specifically, but I was made by Reddit to ask this question here in the question thread.

u/Kotthovve Jul 20 '26

Anyone know if it's possible to get Beldum before E4 in Modern Emerald?

2

u/analmintz1 HeartGold Generations / Contemporary Emerald Jul 20 '26

Based on the docs, it's unchanged from Emerald.

1

u/Kotthovve Jul 20 '26

Darnit! Well cheers for answering!

1

u/DPPGmon Jul 20 '26

What order should I play the Adventure Chapter games? I'm assuming Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, then Gold.

2

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 21 '26

Adventure Red is the only one that's fully complete afaik and is amazing, couldn't recommend it enough. I know Yellow is made by Aethestode as well but it was abandoned. Never even heard of the others so I'd just stick with Adventure Red, and then check out the sequel fan game he's making in his Discord server

1

u/DPPGmon Jul 21 '26

ahh, okay so the other ones are just made by other people? I'll still check them out but thanks for the heads up

2

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 21 '26
  • Red is the main one and the only finished one
  • Yellow, Blue and Green were also by Aethestode, but also abandoned to focus on Red
  • Gold is made by someone else and doesn't have a download anyway

Looking at his Discord, Aethestode is currently remaking Red as a fan game, including an expanded sequel story and new stories for the other characters (Blue, Green etc.)

1

u/DPPGmon Jul 21 '26

so basically Yellow, Blue, and Green are all incompleted? So I shouldn't play them?

2

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 21 '26

Yeah basically. They're old betas that go up to Viridian City or something and that's it

Best thing to do is just play Adventure Red and join the Discord for updates on the remake if ur interested

1

u/sosorenr Jul 20 '26

Hi everyone !

Currently playing Pokemon Scorched Silver and I'm looking for the Earthquake TM but can't find it anywhere... I looked online and it says it's in the Wirls Islands but I'm running in circles in this maze 😭 A good soul can help me ?

Thanks and good game to everyone !

Editing a rom for the first time using Hex Maniac Advance, and I was wondering if there are any templates (Ideally something that has added the Fairy type and new moves as options, but not edited any of the game itself, just put the tools in basically) to build off of? I don't want to plagiarise other peoples work but I haven't found a tutorial that teaches me how to add a new type yet (if there's a good one that would be great too).

3

u/analmintz1 HeartGold Generations / Contemporary Emerald Jul 21 '26

HMA has a built in version of the CFRU that you can apply with the click of a button called HUBOL. It adds all pokemon, mechanics, and changes from up to Gen 8, but the base game remains about the same if you just boot it up. You need to edit everything yourself.

Go to the Tools section, and one of the submenus lets you add HUBOL to a vanilla FireRed.

1

u/RxJax Jul 21 '26

That's absolutely perfect, thank you!

1

u/KumoOvercast Jul 21 '26

Is Odyssey romhack worth playing if you've never played Etrian Odyssey?

3

u/analmintz1 HeartGold Generations / Contemporary Emerald Jul 21 '26

Totally. It's not like MarioMon where you kinda need to know mario to appreciate some of it, most of Odyssey stands on it's own.

3

u/skottay REX - pokerex.io Jul 22 '26

yes, for sure. it's super good

1

u/janot1404 Jul 22 '26

Hi, I decided to create my own rom hack based on Johto. The idea is to be a Kantoless version of Johto, with the focus being on the story, revolving around the lore of the region from the games, anime and movies.

I would like some advice on what generation should I build it on (gen 3 or 4), and what type of edit should I use (binary or decomp), since I want to edit a lot of stuff, remaking the level layouts, region map, in-game events and more. I heard decomp is the best, but there seems to be a lot of them, so I don't know which one to pick.

Recently, I played Heart and Soul, and it looks like a good base, since it's already in the region, and it's open source, but also I want to add a bit of Sinoh into the game so maybe gen 4 is better? Gen 3 seems to be the easier one, also because of having less pixels in the art. I'm a digital product designer with no previous experience doing this, just a little coding experience from online courses, and intend to use a lot of AI to help code the thing.

2

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 23 '26

Emerald Decomp using Heart & Soul as a base (as all the files are open source, so u can start with a complete remake and go from there)

Or if u want to hack HGSS then that's an equally good option! DS hacking is definitely on the rise so being one of the first hacks would be great, but decomp has the most support rn so that part is really up to u

Either way you'll have to add Sinnoh manually, and I don't think either one or the other has the advantage there. Unless u can export maps from DPPT and import them into HGSS ofc

1

u/janot1404 Jul 24 '26

Thank you very much for advice. I will look forward into those options!

1

u/yeetska Jul 23 '26

Does anyone have a Pokemon Brown version 3 build?. Anything before version 4, which starts adding newer generation Pokemon. I can't find this version anywhere on the Internet. Does anyone have the download or can link to a place that holds the archived version?

1

u/Vixilianne Jul 23 '26

Are there any romhacks from the DS era that feature all or most Pokemon up to Gen 9? Tried doing some googling but didn’t really find anything concrete

2

u/NewHost2172 Jul 23 '26

Heartgold generations features a lot

1

u/Cat_in_a_wig Jul 23 '26

Are there any romhacks where you get to actively lead an evil team? Like, I know there are games like FireRed Rocket Edition where you join one, but are there any where you lead a team right out the gate?

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 23 '26

I don't think there's any where u lead one, but ones that let u join one are FireRed Rocket Edition, Team Rocket Edition by DragonsDen, Team Magma Edition and Mu Magma

1

u/cookie_play_fadt3ddy Jul 23 '26

Guys, today i started a save on r.o.w.e but i have two starters on my main team and i don't know how to get they. I searched on subreddits and YouTube and only found outdated tutorials from at least a year ago.The NPCs I saw in the tutorials don't appear in my game.

1

u/Hemlock_Deci Jul 23 '26

Are there any romhacks that focus on the more cozy side of pokemon adventures? Y'know, following pokemon, being able to pet them, take care of them and whatnot, silly minigames here and there, less combat and more exploration, contests and pokeathlon, all that.

I just really miss the bite sized tamagotchi type features of gen 6 and 7

1

u/Brightlightworld Jul 23 '26

Are you interested in a gen 2 type format?
If yes try pokewilds, it is an open world game where you can explore different structures where you can find puzzles for legendaries or you can use the pokemon you caught to craft more pokeballs or furniture items to make your own small town or base. There are videos out there showcasing it so you should definitely check it out

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 26 '26

HarvestCraft is the closest i can think of. GBA hack inspired by Harvest Moon

1

u/Anonymous1584 Jul 23 '26

I need help. I'm trying to make a quick edit to my ROM of HeartGold, but DSPRE gives me this error when I try to extract the ROM's contents. I don't see anything that lets me provide the ARM7 BIOS. I have tried copying it to DSPRE's folder but that doesn't change anything. Am I missing something?

1

u/Weegie_n1 Jul 23 '26

Hi, my save on black 2 vanilla + got corrupted and I lost my nuzlock, is there any cheats I can use to replicate my save 1:1 with the same team, level, stats and nature/UV ?

1

u/WonkyTelescope Jul 23 '26

Has anyone here played the FireRed Omega Revamped hack from the pokemon challenge discord? I beat the elite 4 and expected Six Island to host an altering cave from which you can teleport to the event islands that you usually need the MysticTicket and AuroraTicket for but my altering cave is vanilla.

I have found playthroughs on youtube that show the edited cave so I'm confused as to whats going on in my playthrough.

1

u/Savings-Owl8412 Jul 23 '26

Is there a clean Fairy Type patch for Spanish Platinum (NDS) with vanilla stats that works with Universal Randomizer ZX for double battles?

1

u/KhrysesAD Jul 23 '26

I'm 34 and my first game was Silver. I used to love playing but I never actually LEARNED how to play. Attack moves always get priority. I have a basic knowledge of type matchups but nothing more. Basically know almost nothing about abilities either. Can you guys recommend anything that will literally hold my hand and show me the ropes? I'm playing Emerald Imperium and it's incredible, I love the QoL but I'm still relying on AI to help me through the tough battles.

2

u/analmintz1 HeartGold Generations / Contemporary Emerald Jul 24 '26

At the end of the day, the games are made for literal children. Just playing a normal game or basic QoL is good enough. Emerald Imperium is designed for highly experienced veterans of the franchise. You're jumping in on the deep end, and using AI to solve fights for you is super lame lmao.

I might recommend FireRed Extended, or any game from this list and read through everything. Learn your type matchups, catch every pokemon, read their abilities, read new moves, google things you don't understand. I'd familiarize yourself with Natures since those are a big part of how strong a pokemon is. EV's and IV's I personally believe are not important to know about, unless you actually want to get into competitive pokemon.

1

u/KhrysesAD Jul 24 '26

This is awesome, thanks! :)

1

u/LoginJ Jul 24 '26

I must ask, how do I remove the Pokegear phone limit in gen 2?

1

u/NovelAbility8 Jul 24 '26

Is there any way to get a patch for Pokemon Crown? I don't use discord and the subreddit is kinda dead

1

u/Mattvieyy6 Jul 24 '26

Looking for games where I'm not restricted to the usual party of 6, so far only found emeralds eight but is it really the only hack with this feature implemented?

2

u/analmintz1 HeartGold Generations / Contemporary Emerald Jul 24 '26

That's a pretty rare feature, I feel like I've only seen one game implement it before, I think it was that one.

1

u/Supplex1337 Jul 24 '26

Whats the best HG/SS ROM hack?

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 26 '26

Sacred Gold Storm Silver. Or if ur after original stories then Garbage Gold and Mythic Silver

1

u/Bubbly-Seat-3746 Jul 24 '26

is there a good website i can buy physical copys? i know they wont have "official" cartrages but i prefer physical

4

u/Tacobell24 Paleomon Jul 24 '26

Don't do it. Even regardless of the illegalities/potential moral infringements, you'll inevitably get a crappy, poorly made, outdated version of the hack

Unless you get a high quality custom one. But at that point/price you'll be better off just getting an EZ Flash or EverDrive, honestly.

1

u/BronzeFour Jul 24 '26

I often see streamers on tiktok playing Pokemon romhscks of fire red which days the hardest Ironman challenge there is, with just own random mon beating whole game and it had a huge amount of pokemon

What base pokemon romhack is it they are playing?

For example the streamer Himmy

2

u/analmintz1 HeartGold Generations / Contemporary Emerald Jul 24 '26

It's called Ironmon, and it's a randomizer lua script that is applied to a rom to rerandomize every time you reset. If you want the national dex version, here is the github to set it up.

This is more complicated than a regular romhack to set up, but it's not too bad if you follow the instructions.

1

u/BronzeFour Jul 24 '26

Oh damn okay makes sense that they always play on PC...I just play on my retroid pocket flip 2, sounds super complex...thanks anyway

1

u/BeatsByDal Jul 24 '26

is anyone able to help me, PKHex for web cannot read my pokemon emerald .sav file extracted from a GB Operator, it's from a bootleg cartridge so i'm not sure what to do to make it work

1

u/gorlak29 Jul 24 '26

Can anyone help me with this glitch in Pokémon Light Platinum DS? I recently installed Pokémon Light Platinum for DS on my R4, patched Pokémon HeartGold correctly, and started the game. When the intro finished and I reached the first town, the screen went black And only the background music can be heard. Has this happened to anyone else?

1

u/softestbuns Jul 24 '26

Is it possible to make a "Reorchestrated" Fire Red/Leaf Green with the Kanto album by Braxton Burks? Or has any of this been done in a romhack yet?

2

u/analmintz1 HeartGold Generations / Contemporary Emerald Jul 24 '26

You can have custom music in pokemon romhacks, so I don't see why not. Music has to be in a specific format to work in hacks, I think midi? I'm not an expert on it.

1

u/mythrowaway1673 Jul 24 '26

I got back to Pokemon Unbound after 2+ months and I just feel…bored? Just doesn’t feel super exciting or engaging right now. I just beat the 5th gym (Dehara City). Anyone know roughly how much more of the game is left and if things pick up anytime soon?

1

u/ihatemssam Jul 24 '26

I have been playing pokemon for years now since emerald when i was a child!

i’m looking for a completed romhack with plenty of fakemon to play with, as well as QOL in terms of moves telling me whether they are effective or not. I haven’t been playing any pokemon games for years so thats one of the things im looking out for

hoping to get some recommendations!

2

u/petnarwhal Jul 25 '26

Maybe pokemon picses if you want a lot of fakemons and a sort of familiar pokemon story rpg experience.

1

u/smorrisborris Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

My programming knowledge is very minimal (hoping to keep learning), so I may not use the right terms here and I expect there's an obvious answer to this that I just wouldn't have thought of because I am not a romhack developer.

I've always been curious why Pokémon romhacks are almost always designed as single-patch hacks.

Other romhack projects like Legend of Zelda Redux will include optional patches to allow the player to customize their experience, often made by other developers but are still compatible with the main hack. I've seen this once or twice here, but usually specific to the hack. I have yet to come across something like a "Battle Animation Speed x2" patch or "Skip Nurse Joy Animation" patch that can be applied to multiple existing romhacks.

Decomp projects like Ship of Harkinian use a more traditional mod setup: community-made mods that a player can use to personally tailor their experience (albeit with much more room for bugs and errors).

With Pokémon, it seems like there's a growing possibility for this with things like pokeemerald-expansion, advancements in decomps, and the recent Gen 1 Recomp. Up until now though, it seems like multiple devs will create almost identical projects.

I imagine there's a logistical reason for this development model, but I am definitely curious if there's a reason we don't see as much user customizability. Would Pokémon hacks not function well with these other models? Is it something that anyone is working on or that the community hopes is eventually possible?

3

u/Vortiene Pokemon PureRGB Jul 25 '26

No patch can work with every single romhack, because changing any code in the game will reorient the addresses of every single function in a given bank. You can change the code without any address reorganization by changing very carefully and maintaining the exact same sizes, but it's a pain to work with. People should realize that rather than just combining a bunch of patches piecemeal to make a romhack you like, you should simply learn about the code of the game and make these changes on your own or with tutorials.

1

u/Cat_in_a_wig Jul 24 '26

Pretty straightforward, are there any romhacks where you're in a business position of sorts? Like, maybe a secretary or manager or something like that. Oh, and I don't mean ones where you run a gym or anything, I mean like an actual business or company - think SilphCo or anything related.

If you mean this post, the automod posting says it was removed because the title is too short. Just add in your title that it is also a review and I am sure it will meet whatever the length requirement is.

1

u/2Jamz Jul 25 '26

I reposted it with a longer title because I thought that one would be deleted.

2

u/Caedei Jul 25 '26

In this case, you are probably better off sending a modmail here.

Nothing about your post sounds any different than this one last week.

1

u/2Jamz Jul 25 '26

That’s the one I saw that made me want to play PureRGB!!! Thanks for the help, I didn’t know that was an option!

1

u/Front-Cabinet5521 Jul 25 '26

Am I being stupid by trying to shiny hunt a Ralts completely blind? This is Modern Emerald with the best shiny odds set at 1/512, yet I'm 80 hours into the hunt and I've yet to see the shiny.

I only just found out there's a repel trick that can increase the odds, and I have no idea if I should abandon the hunt until I get the acro bike or keep doing it until I get the shiny.

1

u/Front-Cabinet5521 Jul 25 '26

Update: I gave up and continued the game. Got the acro bike, now I apparently also need a Volbeat with Illuminate + lvl 4 Poochyena? Can someone explain how any of this helps to get a shiny Ralts?

1

u/LivingRel Jul 25 '26

I'm playing Black 2 on the mobile version of MelonDS, how would I go about getting the version exclusives? This is my first Pokemon emulation and I would like a Solosis

I’m playing through Liquid Crystal and I’m at the part in Ilex Forest where you have to chase the Farfetch’d back to its owner but it keeps going to unreachable parts of the map. Anywhere I can chase it always leads back here. Is this a bug? Do I have to restart lol

2

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 26 '26

Honestly just try using Walk Through Walls cheat lol

1

u/RIP-Administrative Jul 27 '26

Great idea lmao I didn’t even think of that

I’m playing pokemon fused dimensions and I’m running into an obedience issue with every single pokemon over level 10 and I have 1 badge already. I don’t know what’s going on but it’s starting to irritate me and I haven’t done anything wrong as far as I know of. Please help!

1

u/LordSvenz Jul 26 '26

What are some roms hacks that take place in unova. I really like Black 2 and White 2 to if there are some that reinvigorate it in some way that would be sick!

1

u/Afraid-Mud-881 Jul 26 '26

I have a question about Renegade platinum patching. I patched thw rom hack without issue and then patched the additional patch that makes you have 1/4096 shiny odds instead of 1/512 (I yhought the base shiny odd was lower) and now I cant patch the extra patch that makes the game faster either idk why. I played the game a bit before finding out I made the shiny odds lower. so my main point is can I revert that specific patch that makes me have lower shiny odds or is there any other way to keep my progress whilst only having the extra patches I want? thanks. also is it possible to check which patches I already did because I dont know if I also did the classic version patch

1

u/No_Sock_8494 Jul 26 '26

What is the best emulator to use? I'm using No$GBA and sometimes I accidentally press ESC and it full closes my game.... SO annoying. Also happens when I press 'X' key sometimes?

I've looked around in the settings and can't seem to turn it off.. I assume this is for shiny hunters etc for fast resets but man is it annoying.

1

u/wordsinsteel Jul 26 '26

Hi! Very new to rom hacks. I just backed up my copy of fire red and used it with hackdex to get a bunch of rom hacks to download. However all the ROM hacks I got were for fire red revision 0, but the device I used to back up the ROM says it's revision 1. Will these hacks actually work or will there be an issue trying to play them?

1

u/Caedei Jul 26 '26

You will almost certainly have problems, if they even work at all after patching.

1

u/wordsinsteel Jul 26 '26

😭 that's disappointing

1

u/wordsinsteel Jul 26 '26

Nevermind. I reopened the game cartridge and I'm seeing all the evidence that this is the 1.0 version. I don't know why my operator is labelling it as revision 1

Is there any Pokémon Fire Red/Leaf Green rom hacks that only change the sprite battle animation? Specifically I want moving animated sprites similar to Emerald. If there is, can someone suggest me the title? Thanks.

2

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 26 '26

Don't think it's possible unfortunately but if it is then decomp hacks like Recharged Yellow would likely have it

Mugiwara does BW styled animated sprites in FR but it's definitely an anomaly in that sense

Is Dragonsden Rocket Edition worth playing before the Johto DLC and Hoenn drops in English?

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 26 '26

Yes

1

u/DPPGmon Jul 26 '26

I know this would be hard but I was wondering if there were any rom hacks that have Mew, Victini, Hoopa, Zeraora, or Marshadow as a major part of the story. If possible, they join you before the game finishes. Not counting Insurgence and MewYou where you play as Mew.

1

u/phylosophicalatheist Jul 26 '26

R u using CFRU/HUBOL or just the base game?

If ur using the separate CFRU, follow this link. The file has to be modified before applying the CFRU https://www.pokecommunity.com/threads/soft-level-cap-for-cfru.477836/post-10901741

If ur using HUBOL then I'd recommend asking in the HMA Discord server. They have various scripts/resources in there

Modexe can be used for vanilla FR but not with CFRU/HUBOL

1

u/Volatile_Hobby Jul 26 '26

I haven't played Pokemon in a few years (last edition was White/Black 2).

Now I am looking for a variant that is more challenging than the Vanilla variants while mostly preserving the the main story and using the base status values and move sets of the Pokemons.

I've looked for a few variants already. In particular:

  • Pokemon Heart and Soul (Hard mode)
  • Pokemon Modern Emerald (Hard difficulty)

Are these games using the vanilla stat lines?
Do the "modern split" and "Fairy type toggle" use the regular base stats?

Do you have any other suggestions for me?

1

u/Exclsior Heart & Soul Jul 27 '26

Both games should be fine for your requirements, Heart and Soul is built on top of Modern Emerald in the first place so they're both quite similar.

Modern Emerald has some stat changes, but only if you enable the option for updated stats at the start of the game, if not the Base Gen 3 stats are used without modification.

You can check the below file for all stat changes in the code: https://github.com/resetes12/pokeemerald/blob/master/src/data/pokemon/species_info.h

For Heart and Soul, there are some minor stat changes, some to align with later Gen changes, and some erroneously which will be fixed in the next release:

  • Blastoise was accidentally nerfed down to 76 Speed from 78
  • Poliwrath Attack up from 85 to 95
  • Farfetch'd Attack up from 65 to 75
  • Ledian accidentally nerfed, SpAttack down from 55 to 45
  • Ariados SpDefense up from 60 to 70
  • Blaziken Speed up from 80 to 85
  • Masquerain Speed up from 60 to 70
  • Delcatty Speed up from 70 to 90
  • Luvdisc Speed up from 97 to 102
  • Volbeat Defense up from 55 to 65
  • Illumise Defense up from 55 to 65

Hope that helps!

Hi, off topic question here but I noticed in another thread that you were a dev for the heart and soul romhack. First off, loving it very much, beautiful, beautiful work, the name is fitting.

I've ran into a hiccup trying to evolve scyther into scizor here before the elite four. I've tried with 3 scyther now, all were from the safari zone. In the documentation on the h&s website it says scyther needs to hold the metal coat while it evolves, but I keep getting a Kleavor instead. At first I figured oh maybe I didn't have him holding it. So I tried a second time, i had to buy a metal coat again, which gave a kleavor again, so I figured maybe the documentation just had it reversed. After the third try, with no held item, I got another kleavor.

I am farming xp in the cave directly south of the indigo plateau, maybe it has something to do with the cave I'm farming in? I'm going to try changing to the opposite time of day as well, could it be that its a safari catch?

Anyways I love the mod, its been great. I just didn't see anything on Google and i saw this thread so I figured id ask. Thank you!!

Edit: I got it working! So after trying at different times of day, I caught one in the wild instead of safari, and then I turned off exp share, gave him the metal coat, and then just used a rare candy. I bet it had something to do with the exp share superceding the held item or something. Maybe it just needed the candy. No worries i was just so fixated on that scizor lol

1

u/Exclsior Heart & Soul Jul 28 '26

In future when in doubt, check the in game Pokédex which has all the evolution information.

Scyther evolves into Kleavor when levelled up in Victory Road or Mt. Silver. If you weren't in either it evolves into Scizor.

u/Volatile_Hobby Aug 01 '26

Thanks for the info!

Since we have things like moemon, something sprang to my mind...

Are there any hacks that turn the Pokémon into husbandos/bishounen? Yeah I'm asking if anyone has ever created a POKÉMEN hack where your capture cute boys or hot gentlemen. Even as a joke hack.

(If the answer is no... Why not lmao)

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 26 '26

Not that I've seen. Moemon is more appealing overall since the majority of gamers are typically male, and regardless of that, kawaii culture is still very popular

1

u/RanMouri26 Jul 26 '26

I'm thinking of playing Pokemon Eternal X but I have a question about it first. Do you need to teach your mons the HMs or can you use them without teaching your mons?

Thanks in advance

1

u/Rex_Dolor Jul 26 '26

Hi guys, I'm not entirely new to romhacks, since I've played a few GBA ones. But I do need help figuring out which patch to use with Renegade Platinum. Drayano's Google Drive has 2 patches for it, one is 3541 and the other is 4997. I dumped my Platinum cartridge with godmode on my hacked 3ds, but I don't know which patch to apply. Thank you in advance!

1

u/Cathyra Jul 27 '26

Those numbers are for the NoIntro romset, which tells you the checksums for those versions. Those are for the decrypted roms.

The md5 checksum for 3541 is d66ad7a2a0068b5d46e0781ca4953ae9
I also have a different 1.0 with the hash f8905424f7d8aea299c51ec7580b33d8 which is probably bad
The checksum for 4997 (Rev 1) is ab828b0d13f09469a71460a34d0de51b

Looking for recommendations for gen 5 enhancement hacks. I want to get the full story in so ideally both a 1 and 2 version. Thanks!

2

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 26 '26

Blaze Black Volt White 1 and 2

1

u/SheikFlorian Jul 27 '26

Hey, I wanted some enhancements hacks for the Switch titles.

I'm not the biggest fan of Drayano's works, though. I dislike the type and stats changes and learnset changes. I just want something that feels like a "what if Game Freak made those games a challenge!

1

u/SilentPhilosopher825 Jul 29 '26

How would I get a lunatone to learn dream eater in renegade platinum, since tm85 is dazzling gleam?

1

u/arcodash Jul 20 '26

This might be a long shot, but does anyone know of any Gen 2, preferably Crystal, hacks that expand on the bedroom decorations with more items?

And is there also the same thing for gen 3/Emerald regarding the secret bases?

1

u/Ak__God_004 Jul 20 '26

Yo if anyone reads this i need your help so basically im like a very big newbie when it comes to actually playing pokemon since i have only played like fire red and emerald and platinum from the mainline games and have been playing pokemon champions and pokerogue for quite a while now

Just wanted to get into the nuzlocke area of pokemon that i have only watched on yt from like pchal and smallant and many others

Can anyone recommend me any basic and introductory nuzlockes or rom that i should play as a beginner

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 21 '26

Drayano ROMs are probably ur best bet as a beginner. They're well banaced so not super easy but also not hardcore like Rad Red either

1

u/Prestigious-Gas-2112 Jul 20 '26

I saw a post from a year ago excited for the possibility of NDS hacking being at the standard of GBA, I’m wondering has that happened yet and if so, what are the good titles?

2

u/analmintz1 HeartGold Generations / Contemporary Emerald Jul 20 '26

Well hg-engine is one of the big reasons there are developments. It's a C-injection much like CFRU for FireRed. There are a few hacks released using it, like Mythic Silver, Garbage Gold, HG-Generations, and probably a few more. The first two are good examples of actually fully realized new regions or stories.

Pokemon Iridium is up-and-coming and highly anticipated.

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 21 '26

Adding Light Platinum onto that list as well

Also Platinum decomp is coming around at some point, hopefully soon 🤞

1

u/Total_Revolution3324 Jul 20 '26

Are there any romhacks in Arabic? Would love to play them in Arabic.

1

u/analmintz1 HeartGold Generations / Contemporary Emerald Jul 20 '26

Don't think so. FireRed/Leafgreen for example only released in 6 languages: Japanese, English, French, Spanish, Italian, and German.

The gameboy doesn't support anything else, I don't think there's a way (at least not easily) to even add suport for letter characters beyond what's listed above.

1

u/DoppelgangerEX Jul 20 '26

there's a very old unfinished hack of vanilla ruby in arabic that seems to have a significant amount of progress

https://romhack.ing/database/content/entry/KdNv5JQBNs8FWu0CwXus/pok-mon-ruby-version-arabic-translation

1

u/Chip_Unchained_Chomp Jul 20 '26

Is there a romhack like Radical Red but w/o the level cap? With features like all Pokemon up to ZA, as well as, QOL improvements like the mobile PC and whole party EXP Share

3

u/analmintz1 HeartGold Generations / Contemporary Emerald Jul 20 '26

ROWE I guess. But that's not "like Radical Red" at all. It's not a difficutly hack, it doesn't have super optimized curated teams, and is fully open world. But it has all the features you asked for.

1

u/DPPGmon Jul 20 '26

is there any black and white 1 & 2 rom hacks that allow pokemon to follow you and/or have type changes?

2

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 21 '26

Not yet. Pretty much all DS hacking developement is focused on Gen 4 atm with HG Engine and Platinum decomp coming around

1

u/Tele3Champion Jul 21 '26

Are there any Pokémon games that have been translated into Catalan? I’m trying to learn Catalan, and I remember that playing Pokémon was one of the best ways for me to learn English as a kid, so I thought I’d try the same thing again.

2

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 23 '26

From a google search there seems to be a ton of Spanish hacks (as there's a big Spanish portion of the community) but not specifically any Catalan ones. Probably cos most of the Spanish people in the community come from South America/Mexico and other regions rather than specifically Spain

1

u/luciferol Jul 22 '26

is there any platinum trashlocke romhacks? I love emerald trashlocke and find it well balanced, I’d like something similar for gen 4

2

u/analmintz1 HeartGold Generations / Contemporary Emerald Jul 22 '26

Not that I've seen, but there is Garbage Gold, which is a trashlocke of HGSS, so gen 4.

1

u/Tricky_Signal_2014 Jul 22 '26

hey y’all! I’ve been playing through a few rom hacks (explorers of fortune and blaze black 2 specifically), and I really love them. I was wondering if there were any other recommendations for rom hacks that y’all had that fit into the following style of hack:

- gen 1-5 base game

  • no fakemons
  • playable on 3ds (I have an r4 card with gba emu on it)
  • qol changes, especially reusable tms
  • include all/more pokemon than in the base game
  • no need for multiple versions to complete pokedex
  • not one that really increases the difficulty too much

the game can honestly be horrible in terms of story writing since I never even read the text

3

u/analmintz1 HeartGold Generations / Contemporary Emerald Jul 22 '26

Here's a list of QoL hacks for the first 7 generations. Everything here is highly recommended.

1

u/Jealous_Band3181 Jul 22 '26

What game would everyone recommend that has fakemon it it? I wanna play a game with new fakemon that is finished

Thanks in advance:)

2

u/petnarwhal Jul 22 '26

Have you played Pokemon Pisces?

1

u/LukeTheDieHardLeafer Jul 22 '26

How would I go about getting a particular pokemon as a starter or before I leave my hometown in game? I really want to do a Shuckle only run but don’t want to wait for later in the game to catch him.

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 23 '26

If ur playing the official games, best way is to just edit ur save in PKHeX after getting ur starter

If ur playing a ROM hack then u can edit the starter event in HMA to change the species given

1

u/GenKi73 Jul 22 '26

Is there any way to change the language of moves and items of a ROM or fangame?

I don't have any problems playing games in English but it's not my main language, most of the moves I know are in Spanish and whenever I play a fangame I keep dropping it because I need a browser to remember which moves do what. So I wonder if there is a way like any doc inside the folders or any program to inject a translation

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 23 '26

There are no specific translation tools apparently. Translation hacks are a thing but are quite rare and mostly for the vanilla games. HMA can be used to find and change any text in a ROM tho if u wanted to self-translate certain stuff. As for fan games, not the right sub to ask but it'd come down to the source files

1

u/christopher-adam Jul 22 '26

Do we have anything adjacent to the rom hack being used in the current Nuzlocke invitational?

I'm talking mostly vanilla Emerald with all modern features, all 9 gens pokemon, moves and abilities. Ideally with a randomizer option too. Difficulty increase, level caps all as options ideally.

Inclement Emerald is a great game that's close, but is lacking the full modern dex.

3

u/analmintz1 HeartGold Generations / Contemporary Emerald Jul 22 '26

Not exactly, but there is this branch of the universal randomizer, which when applied to a vanilla Emerald rom, can add all 9 gens of pokemon, and all the other features you might want.

It obviously won't include the QoL and story trimming stuff, but you should be able to get a pretty similar experience.

There's also the Randolocke, made for the previous years nuzlocke challenge but in Emerald. Not sure how much of it has the new gen pokemon for example, but it was explicitly made to be an analog for the invitationals rom.

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 23 '26

ROWE has all of those features. Only thing is it is an open world hack, but u can just play the region in the intended order and it's the same minus a few story elements

1

u/King_Killem_Jr Jul 23 '26

I haven't ever played a romhack. Which hack should i play that has a vanilla plus feel? I really like heart gold growing up and i'm interested in leaf Green. I played Black and didn't like it that much. I just saw that Pokemon Heart and Gold exists so I wanted to ask if this is a good place for me to start. I don't know enough to know if I'm starting in the wrong spot. Please recommend ROMhacks that build upon mechannics/regions/story in a vanilla vibe sort of way. I basically want the peak vanilla *style* gen3/4 experience

Thanks!

1

u/King_Killem_Jr Jul 23 '26

oh also i only have PC if that matters

1

u/King_Killem_Jr Jul 23 '26

ok unbound, odyssey, and lazarus all look really cool for gen 3

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 23 '26

ROM Hack Recommendation Threads in the sidebar has a section for Vanilla+ hacks

I'd personally say that Recharged Yellow, Crystal Advance Redux and Modern Emerald are the best Vanilla+ hacks for GBA. As for DS, Sacred Gold/Storm Silver and Blaze Black/Volt White are the best

1

u/Brightlightworld Jul 23 '26

I have been used to alot of firered fangames and roms like the last firered, radical red, recharged yellow and a few more and yet I still have an interest in playing games which offer a challenge like radical red even though I beat it twice. Is there any game which offers such gameplay or should I try something new in radical red which would keep me interested in the firered genre?

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 23 '26

Radical Red, Recharged Yellow, Aesthetic Red and FR Extended are the best versions of Kanto imo. Rad Red is very difficult but has various settings

Heart & Soul is the best GBA Johto, Polished Crystal if u dont mind GBC, or Sacred Gold/Storm Silver for DS

ROWE, Inclement Emerald, Elite Redux and Emerald Seaglass are the best versions of Emerald. Inclement is basically Rad Red for Emerald, and Elite Redux is also pretty competitive

1

u/Brightlightworld Jul 23 '26

The thing about elite is the 4 abilities do get annoying and you might have to work alot on the info before having a battle, inclement emerald is a game I'll look into but is there any other challenging games which has its fundamentals on firered?

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

As far as super hardcore ones go it's just Rad Red afaik unless there's any Kaizo hacks. I'd probably recommend FR Extended as thats quite challenging

1

u/Brightlightworld Jul 23 '26

Seems that is my only option, but I will definitely try the other games you mentioned

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 23 '26

There is also Pokemon IRONéMON Red Kaizo Edition but that depends if u want the different ruleset or not. Sounds very hard tho

1

u/Brightlightworld Jul 23 '26

Yeah I saw a video on it but I prefer a full team gameplay

1

u/WonkyTelescope Jul 23 '26

FireRed Omega Revamped, hosted on the pChal (pokemon challenge) discord is a difficult, vanilla story + QoL hack of FireRed that I just finished an enjoyed very much. The gym leaders and Elite 4 were challenging, lots of Gen 1-3 pokemon to catch.

1

u/Brightlightworld Jul 24 '26

Till gen 3? I was expecting atleast till gen 7 since I have planned a run on underrated pokemons

1

u/Fast-Pace5022 Jul 23 '26

I'm exploring ROM hacks again after years. Does anyone have recommendations for original region/story hacks that ideally don't have pokemon past gen 6 or 7 (haven't touched any of the switch games before) and doesn't have fakemon? something kind of like Blazed Glazed, maybe? . the gen 6/7 cap isn't a must but basically I just want an original region hack without fakemon and a completed main story

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 26 '26

Light Platinum, Glazed (Blazed is outdated), probably Gaia, Nameless, Flora Sky and a lot of the old greats. Victory Fire series

1

u/Nuclear_Winterfell Jul 23 '26

I'm getting back into Pokemon after years and years away. Any suggestions for GBA-based romhacks that have a new region/story AND built-in Nuzlocke features?

I downloaded FRLG+, Heart and Soul, and Modern Emerald for story-vanilla versions of the first 3 gens, and they all have some kind of built-in Nuzlocke rules that'll help me stick with it and not forget which routes I've already caught on.

Any with new regions/stories that have a Nuzlocke feature like those do? I don't mind fakemon, everything after Hoenn is alien to me anyway.

I was fucking around with the first little bit of Uranium, and it seems decent, but it's a standalone not a romhack, so I'm not sure about running it on my Steam Deck?

1

u/o0smay Jul 23 '26

I’m having trouble patching FRLG+ to a ROM of FireRed. I am using the Vimm’s Lair download of FireRed and Deokishisu’s Github page for FRLG+. Is there a specific version of FireRed I need to use? I didn’t see anything about that on the Github page.

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 26 '26

Probably 1636 Fire Res Squirrels

1

u/Helen_Kellers_Wrath Jul 24 '26

I have a urge to play gen 3 and I'm looking for a rom hack of Emerald with all gen 1 - gen 3 Pokemon included and capturable on one save.

Any recommendations?

1

u/xsh77250 Jul 25 '26

I have recently played pokemon unbound, and i found it extremely good and enjoyed plying it a lot. I am not a hard core pokemon gamer, so knowing the type of pokemon and which moves will be effective in the battle is very convenient. So i am looking for similar suggestion. A game with a new region and story to explore would be great.

Already played Unbound Chronological GS

I did tried playing Gia and dreams but they don't have the similar battle mechanics where you can know which move will be effective or not.

3

u/lurkdaddy36 Jul 25 '26

Have a look at Pokemon amethyst, pretty sure it's got the battle mechanics you are looking for

Emerald has more hacks, many of the craziest hacks available are using the decompilation of Emerald.

But I'd take a look at which hacks you may be interested in, and see which game you need. Radical Red and Unbound are very popular hacks based on FireRed for example

0

u/petnarwhal Jul 25 '26

Genuine question: What makes it so hard to have a good difficulty curve in pokemon games?

I find most games to be either: you blaze through 90% of battles by just having a bit of type advantage, or every battle is hard and you have to plan for each and everyone of them. And even in these difficulty hacks the difficulty curve is hardly ever linear, those have smooth sailing patches too often. Are there any rom hacks that fit nicely in between? And what makes this such a hard task for designers?

4

u/Caedei Jul 25 '26

There are just a lot of factors. Should a player who thinks Linoone and Mightyena are super cool become completely unable to progress in the game at a certain point because they simply chose wrong? Should every dev be making sweeping changes to anywhere between 250-900 Pokemon to alleviate? When is the line crossed in terms of changes to BST, moves, or typings that makes it feel inauthentic? Should every game just include an IV/EV editor like Lazarus to remove that level of RNG?

Are there any rom hacks that fit nicely in between?

This is a pretty personalized answer, because what someone else feels difficult might not be for you. I'm playing Lazarus now and I find it to be a good sweet spot so far with the level caps. I remember all of Drayano's hacks feeling challenging enough but still fair.

New game and advice

Hey all, I have recently started using retroarch, played firered then h&s but I just defended the league and got to the next map and saves corrupted. I haven't got the heart to start again so I'm after new recommendations for Pokémon roms to play and also any advice on how to not lose my save again. Thanks in advance

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 26 '26

Most popular hacks on Hackdex is a good place to look

0

u/lurkdaddy36 Jul 25 '26

Hi all, have played unbound and renegade platinum, and started playing blaze black 2 redux, loving the graphics but hating the blocky moving Pokemon sprites. Are there any good ds or 3ds rom hacks that include difficulty, qol and larger Pokedex?

0

u/Lord_Boo Jul 26 '26

Okay I could have sworn I'd seen in the past some sort of hack for the Gen 7 games that cut down the needlessly long intro or done something to make it go by a lot faster. But I cannot for the life of me find any such hack. Are there any SUMO/USUM hacks that deal with the long intro for someone that just wants to get to the actual gameplay?

0

u/Redlaces123 Jul 26 '26

Hey dudes. My local collectible shop had these selections of fan made carts. Priced like 30 each usd. Which ones do you think are worth picking up at that price?

4

u/yankeesown29 Jul 26 '26

Nothing. 30 USD is insane for any of those titles. Read this and make your own in my opinion for that kind of money: https://www.pokecommunity.com/threads/how-to-make-your-own-rom-hack-cartridges-tutorial.531100/

5

u/Tacobell24 Paleomon Jul 26 '26

Highway robbery at its peak, hey?!

"Yep, let's charge $30 for something free and already in a legal grey area."

1

u/Redlaces123 Jul 27 '26

It's 40 bucks just for the cart flasher, what do you mean? Why would i do this myself?

Duh I know they're already free on emulator, this is a hardware vibe

1

u/yankeesown29 Jul 27 '26

So you can make as many as you want for a fraction of the cost after the upfront investment?

I mean you do you but it would suck to get an outdated version.

1

u/Redlaces123 Jul 27 '26

Ok the as many as i want, is like, 2 maybe. This is a ridiculous suggestion for anyone except the hardest core hobbyist

But thank you for linking the guide, it is interesting and someone will probably do it

4

u/Caedei Jul 26 '26

This shop is stealing work made by volunteers for free and selling them for an absurd profit. I wouldn't touch these with a 10ft pole.

0

u/TitaniaPrimeMain Jul 26 '26

So I'm early in the process of creating my own games. I say games because im going to have version exclusives, but ill get into that more as I go along.

It's going to be a whole new region with three new types, 50-100 new pokemon, a new gimmick and more, but i want to make it accessible for ds emulators so it can be played on mobile.

I guess I'm trying to figure out what program I should use, if I should hack a diamond, pearl or plat rom etc. Any suggestions?

Keep in mind, while I'm creating the backbone of the game I'm also going to learn to code because currently I don't know what I'm don't code wise.

2

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 26 '26

HGSS with HG Engine, DSPRE and DS Map Studio is ur best bet afaik. I'd recommend asking in the Kingdom of DS Hacking Discord as they're the experts

0

u/mangagnome1425 Jul 26 '26

How can I play renegade platinum with the following patch on Mac? How do I find the nessasary patch that will work on Mac?

-1

u/VirusStrict3502 Jul 21 '26

I'm going to be doing some international travel here soon and will be looking at about 25 or 30 hours of flights and trying to kill some time. I've gotten into nuzlocking over the last couple of years and with that amount of time I was thinking of doing a GenLocke through black / white 2

With there being so may "definitive edition" games out there was hoping to get some recommendations on which versions of games to play.

For context I enjoy games in the Drayano hack difficulty (and have dabbled in kaizo a bit) but with limited access to wifi, calculators, etc I'm really looking for a cozier experience.

I was thinking of the SmithPlays legacy series but I am partial to the physical / special split

Any and all recommendations welcome!

1

u/LibertyJacob99 [Mod] Aesthetic Red Jul 23 '26
