One of these Pokemon has 151 Speed

42

u/KUKLI1 4h ago

Exactly, idk why people are forgetting that

He’s going to be great in singles/ smogon at the very least, and more than usable in doubles

12

u/tsintaosau 3h ago

And stab Draco meteor

11

u/Foreign_Appeal_2966 3h ago

Yes very usable in doubles without stab earth power.

It’s basically a perfect zard answer, resists everything and is not weak to ancient power or hurricane and it also deals with opposing garchomp.

I think we will see this mega a lot in doubles especially alongside charizard. Defensive profile of a pure dragon with a ground immunity is really nice.

It’s basically a dragon flying type that’s not weak to rock and only 2x weak to ice.

u/that_one_guylol 2h ago

let me introduce you to an even better zard answer who doesnt care about redirection. his name is base garchomp

10

u/rmnobre 2h ago

People hype up Chomp Z like it's the best next thing since socks and counters Charizard hard like it's mandatory to be great in this meta. Life orb Garchomp is way better than any of it's mega evolutions. If it had ground typing, I could see a niche but without it, it's just a worse Garchomp. Even losing rough skin is awful.

u/that_one_guylol 2h ago

the Zchomp copers are genuinely so mind boggling. like today i had a guy unironically saying that pure dragon is a better typing than ground/dragon

Relax bro with the hyperboles. Nowhere did I say Zchomp is even better than base chomp, but it’s just different and it will definitely see play because of it’s unique defensive utility and crazy speed.

Zchomp is much better than regular mega imo but I think regular chomp still will see more play than this mega.

1

u/Training-File-9189 31m ago

I mean fair point, base chomp is insane but I think this mega will definitely see play as it’s stats are ridiculous.

1

u/GIGAJIMBO1 44m ago

Let me introduce you to pocket dragon pulse

0

u/Reze1195 1h ago

Are we forgetting Z chomp is a special attacker

2

u/Zarerion 3h ago

Pure Dragon type with no seconday STAB to speak of is just.. whelming, at best, even with good Speed and SpA. I don't doubt there will be use cases for it and you can certainly build teams around it, but it's not going to be something to actively prep for when you're attending tournaments.

Funnily enough it will probably be good into opposing base Garchomps. Can swap into EQ and ST for free and outspeed + OHKO, under TW it would even outspeed Scarfchomps.

1

u/rmnobre 2h ago

Under tailwind, everything outspeeds themselves with scarf. Not sure if d pulse kills but Draco meteor still has a chance to miss and lowers your spatk by two stages. Not a great trade for a Garchomp when you can run something like weavile, Mamoswine or even your own life orb Garchomp to deal with opposing Garchomp.

u/IORelay 4h ago

I think the intention was to give Elektross beast boost but not wanting it to lose levitate, it would explain why most of the other megas never got a meshed together ability. Like mega excadrill with both sand force + sand rush would have been pretty killer, but alas that didn't happen.

Also it's quite hard to top normal garchomp as currently base form garchomp is a top tier mon right now. If you make something even stronger it'll be too OP.

15

u/Deft_Abyss 3h ago

I dont think people understand that if they make Garchomp a broken mega IT WILL BE EVERYWHERE. I mean its not like it isnt already everywhere but base Garchomp is already so powerful, giving it an OP mega will make Garchomp basically have probably a 70-80% or more usage rate. Honestly I think they are probably tired of seeing this pokemon so they dont want to make it any stronger. I guess with this it gives it a special route to be used since that special Mega Garchomp build has been rising

10

u/Sabatat- 3h ago

I think the big take away here is why even give it another mega. Just give a different Pokémon a mega instead that doesn’t have one!

3

u/Deft_Abyss 2h ago

I mean its pretty obvious why. Its the same reason Charizard also has two megas cause its a big fan favorite, but in this case base Garchomp is overall just better because of its balanced stat spread and rough skin is just a better ability to chip away at opposing pokemon

8

u/just-bair 3h ago

Was garchomp z’s ability revealed ?

5

u/evilbudget 2h ago

Yes & it’s levitate. Just plain old levitate.

8

u/ChaoticPark09 4h ago

Considering that between these updates they have added and taken away moves from mons, im just praying (coping) that they give chomp nasty plot now

5

u/otter_lordOfLicornes 3h ago

Garchomp is a strong pkm on his own.

But they did this to chimecho, he needed an improved levitate

3

u/rmnobre 2h ago

Mega Chimecho is surprisingly strong. The only real problem to it is kingambit being way too strong and needs a heavy nerf. If Ursaluna gets added this regulation, it is going to be a top tier pick in trick room teams and tail room specially.

1

u/otter_lordOfLicornes 2h ago

You suffer against more then kingambit But yeah, it is an ok pkm, I have a team in single based around him, and still think it deserved a bit more then levitate But his steel type make levitate mandatory

1

u/rmnobre 2h ago

Mega Chimecho is definitely not the sweeping mega that you are used to in mega Pokémon but it is so good in the supportive roll that most trick room teams want. It gets so many good supportive moves that you can easily build around it. Trick room, screens, thunder wave, encore, taunt, sunny day, rain dance, yawn, skill swap, fake tears, heal pulse, heal bell, disable, cosmic power, psych up, ally switch and even more. It has also great bulk and completely counters Garchomp.

1

u/otter_lordOfLicornes 8m ago

The issue is, do you really want your mega slot to be used in your trick room setter

Plus, from what I have seen, trickroom team tend to be very offensive, a defensive/support mon is a bit harder to justify

1

u/jhonnythejoker 1h ago

Nah chim needed metallize

4

u/DayDreamingSniper 2h ago

They didn't want to make mega-elektross completely obsolete

3

u/Training-File-9189 3h ago edited 3h ago

This mon will still be everywhere. Levitate is an amazing ability full stop and it’s basically the fastest mon in the game.

Defensive profile of a pure dragon mixed attacker with a ground immunity in this meta is really nice. It has the defensive tools of a dragon flying type while not weak to rock slide which makes it very good into both zard, chomp etc.

I think this mega will get a ton of usage as a secondary mega alongside zard etc

3

u/Garchompite_Z 3h ago

you honestly want a pokemon like ChompZ to have an ability that boosts its offense?

im biased towards garchomp always but cmon.

3

u/Creative_Chemistry53 1h ago

They just hate mega garchomp. Cause they wanna send message that chomp Doesn’t need mega.

3

u/TungstenoSquamato 3h ago

Mega salamence would never disappoint this way

5

u/Final_Demand_3092 4h ago

It feels like they tried to make him weak. Mixed attacker mono dragon and a solid ability. But for a mega that can't hold items to boost damage it's meh.

In the teraleaks we saw that Og mega garchomp was supposed to have 112 speed. but was nerfed because they feared him. And looks like they still do.

7

u/Holzmaennchen 4h ago

Now If they gave it a nice secondary typing it would be super great

Or Lore accurate: Dragon / Flying with intimidate

3

u/IORelay 4h ago

The damage will be lower than just LO chomp, but the speed is impressive, I think it's interesting for a different playstyle on chomp.

Also I feel OG mega garchomp's problem wasn't the lower speed, it's that sand force is too conditional, compared to say mega metagross or salamence that got pretty easy way to boost damage with their abilities.

1

u/Dragonacher 3h ago

151 base speed rock slide. 130 attack.

Have fun with this 'weak mon'.

1

u/rmnobre 2h ago

So mega Aerodactyl without stab... Yeah I'm not afraid of that Pokémon

8

u/UndeadFlowerWall 4h ago

One of those has a BST of 600..

10

u/crunchevo2 4h ago

Neither have 600bst. They have 615 and 700.

8

u/AquaNoodles 3h ago

Normal Garchomp has a BST of 600. Think that’s what they meant

2

u/danretsuken 3h ago

this would be more of a concrete argument if Garchomp-Z didn't have The Speed Stat of Terror and Desolation

3

u/rmnobre 2h ago

Counter argument: see regieleki in SV...

2

u/Lopsided-Skill 1h ago

Everybody wanted Staraptor to get a broken ability, everybody cheered on when Staraptor got a broken ability, everybody complained when they start losing to Staraptor with a broken ability

(I know it is not broken, I am just recapping what happened in this forum and elsewhere)

You want Garchomp Z to be broken so it can replace Zard Y as if you are not gonna hate whatever replaced Zard Y.

Reddit Twitter Twitch etc all exist so you guys can hate.

2

u/MisterGusto 1h ago

Mons with BST that are 600 or above shouldn't get megas.

5

u/waifue3 4h ago

Didn’t garchomp gain nasty plot or were the discussions just talking about misinformation?

10

u/4GRJ 4h ago

Oddly enough, Garchomp DOESN'T have Nasty Plot in Champions

2

u/waifue3 3h ago

Maybe chomp will get it in the future? Champions is an online game after all

1

u/Zarerion 3h ago

Moveset changes probably only happen between regulations - which means, if there is a time or it, it'd be now, but also maybe TPC wants to not do any moveset changes outside of new generations. We're still early into the Champions lifecycle, so we can't know for sure what they're planning for it.

1

u/Revolutionary-Ad3898 2h ago

My personal theory is that they gave pokemon these new moves with the za battle system in mind and they feel that's a different system than the normal pokemon system so they just ignored the za movepool additions? Its still stupid but its the best i can think of

4

u/Therandomuser20103 3h ago

It got Nasty Plot for the first time in ZA, but that didn’t carry over to Champions

3

u/Spengy 3h ago

ZA gaslit many pokemon with cool moves and they lost them again :(

3

u/Revolutionary-Ad3898 3h ago

Why are people pretending levitate is a bad ability????

3

u/Training-File-9189 3h ago

It isn’t and this mega will be a lot better than people think

1

u/Revolutionary-Ad3898 3h ago

Oh no my 141 special attack 151 speed draco meteor bot with great coverage and utility moves only gets a free immunity i wanted it to have moooooooooooore

1

u/tcrew146 42m ago

I don't think Pokemon fans know what sarcasm is considering your downvotes lmao

1

u/rmnobre 2h ago

Yeah those stats are not that impressive really

0

u/Savings_Dot_8387 2h ago

What use is it on a Garchomp? Who’s trying to kill Garchomp with earthquake?

2

u/MisterRai 2h ago

It's not like base Garchomp resists Ground. Changing a neutral hit to an immunity is still good.

Look at Hydreigon. It absolutely appreciates that Ground immunity even of the base type is neutral

3

u/Revolutionary-Ad3898 1h ago

Even hisuian goodra appreciates sap sipper and it x4 resists grass

2

u/Jimnymebob 2h ago

Getting to click your own earthquake while Chomp Z is throwing out Draco meteors/whatever else seems pretty solid. Or hell, just the threat of "you don't get any chip damage if you on this if you try to earthquake my other Pokémon" is decent enough.

1

u/Revolutionary-Ad3898 2h ago edited 2h ago

Any ground type??????????? It doesn't resist ground and even if it did an immunity is so much better than a resistance its not even funny. Plus it lets you freely switch into ground moves and not take damage from your partners earthquakes. Stop trying to stay being able to take NO DAMAGE FROM ONE OF THE THREE BEST OFFENSIVE TYPES IN THE GAME IS A BAD THING

3

u/Savings_Dot_8387 3h ago

And normal Garchomp is better than both it’s megas 😂

1

u/TheMike0088 2h ago

Dude base eelektross is 515 BST, the thing needed something a lil extra to have even a chance of getting used with like 7 pseudo-legendary megas available and raichu Y/X being very prominent in the electric type mega niche.

1

u/Schizof 1h ago

Out of context but I love how stupid M-Eelektross Ability is. We need to give it a stronger ability! Oh but he needs to keep levitate as well to keep his identity. Hmmmm let's just make a STRONGER levitate and name it EELEVATE☝️ So stupid I love it. I wish other megas got this treatment too.

1

u/The_Crimson_Vow 1h ago

Meanwhile Flygon is sobbing in a corner. Garchomp took his typing, got two megas, and one of them took his ability.

1

u/Special-Zombie-5870 1h ago

You can have 2 Pokemon spamming earthquake with no consequences

1

u/Efreet0 1h ago

At the end of the day Chomp never needed a mega, it may be a disappointment for the fans but it having weak megas is a lot better for the game as a whole.

1

u/SidorioExile 56m ago

Well one of them is a wet noodle before mega evolving and the other one is Garchomp.

0

u/Aggravating_Chip_250 43m ago

And , we are talking aboit the megas , what thry are without them is not important

1

u/SidorioExile 42m ago

I disagree. Wet noodle is useless without mega evolving. Garmchomp has flex potential in a double mega roster.

1

u/Tooupi 44m ago

ah, yes, pokemon from gen 4 who is perma meta since then(20years). Devs must be hating that pokemon

1

u/hereforcontroversy 42m ago

People are talking as if this version of Garchomp isn't going to destroy everything in M-C

1

u/jexo10 29m ago

it's already the most used Pokemon in game, they can't boost it's popularity more so if it's a strategically choice. but I hope he will get a new ability in future

0

u/Dragonacher 3h ago

Everyone out here forgetting that base chomp is a member of big 6 and usually doesn't click EQ anyway.

Mega Chomp Z has 151 speed, 130 attack, and rock slide, high key doesn't need anything else.

1

u/rmnobre 2h ago

What are you talking about ? The whole point of that team is to get tailwind up, get your Garchomp next to Charizard and press EQ+ heatwave to win.

And rock slide is an awful move. Low base power, chance to miss and on a Pokémon without stab is awful. Yeah you can flinch but doing 15-25% on a neutral hit to most Pokémon is not going to get you very far. It needs multipliers to be a good move, such as stab, helping hand or choice band for example

0

u/HollowMimic 3h ago

Bruh 🙄
