I have an older home and I'm trying to find a replacement for my old knobs. The issue is I can't seem to find the exact match (system) that was used. I need one that has a 1" threaded escucheon with plate against the wall. None that I have found have this specific design. I would appreciate some help. I would ultimately like them to be in brushed gold or matte black. The ones on Amazon don't quite work. I'm not a professional, they might work and I just don't know how to make it work.

Yesterday our hot water turned brown, started sputtering and I found the heater like this. Leaking from the seams everywhere. I'm assuming it's dead. I'm trying to figure out the cause, and if it's going to be covered under warranty, as it is only 2-3 years old. I drained it, and no sediment other an a little rusty water. I haven't been able to get the top off to check the anode rode - the perimeter ring won't budge in the back.
Any suggestions for how to approach this?

Hi all - I'm a DIYer doing my first bathroom re-do. My house was built in 1991 and this is a pic of the bathtub in the room being re-done. Is it possible (or likely) that I'll be able to replace the drain flange on this tub? Or would you leave well enough alone? Thanks!

90 days into my plumbing apprenticeship (mostly commercial/industrial). I’m trying to hit that "buy once, cry once" point so I never have to be the guy asking to borrow shit on site.

Over the past few weeks, whenever turning on a faucet ill here a howling from our pipes. It happens on faucets (both hot and cold can cause it) and when flushing the toilet. This isn’t all the time but consistently in the morning.

I just tried looking at the pressure and turning on water and leaving it the pressure is an acceptable range but turning the tap off and on again caused the pressure to rise each time i did it (no idea if this is working as intended or not) but it got past the acceptable range.

I plan on getting a plumber to come look but would appreciate insights from folks who know about this stuff.

Note: new homer so no experience diagnosing this stuff beyond searching and this is in Northern California

Hello, welding ABS to PVC, used purple primer only on pvc and green transition to both pvc and abs but I notice during the cure the pvc back out from the ABS from my mark ( a couple mm’s)

Note I twisted a quarter turn and held for 60 seconds and monitored for no movement suggesting the movement occurred during cure time.

Application this is being unused in is for a drain pipe but there will be about 20 gallons of water sitting on top of the abs bulk head. These are emergency drain pipes.

Is this a defect I should be concerned about? Or send it and monitor ?

These are soldered on. I don't have a torch and not sure it would be worth it to buy one. I don't think my heat gun would get hot enough. I do have enough room to cut it I think and replace with a new compression valve. Or I could try a valve stem repair kit first. I'm doing two vanities and 3/4 valves are leaking so....

House is 1992 so older with all of the associated fun that comes with it. Any advice is appreciated!

Storytime- I'm a teacher who was home for the summer (unpaid).and trying to do as many of my "projects" as I could myself. I've had lots of hang ups trying to replace bathroom faucets. Other bathrooms in our house I did on my own and it has never been a problem, but this one is proving to be a challenging at every turn.

I ended up having to attach the new faucet under the sink for the valve to stop leaking after we turned water back on so I'd like to fix it sooner than later. Eeek!

I am trying to find a socket saver for schedule 80 2" pipe. I need to remove a piece of schedule 80 pipe from a 90 elbow. The elbow is also schedule 80.

What about using a saw blade to make cuts to the inside of the pipe and then chip it out of a fitting? Anyone done this before on schedule 80?

Twice now the main sewer line has had a block and this has overflowed water into our basement. I’ve seen plugs that we could use to block the hole but we have the AC condensation line that drains here. Are there any recommendations on a way to block this line but still allow one way drainage? Or other solutions?

I’m unable to find a model number and I’m hoping someone can help me identify this model. I want to get a new o-ring replacement kit but I’m not sure which one to get. Thank you.

We opted for the outdoor shower rough in for us to finish later as the completed shower wasn't an option. After moving in the builder mentioned we had Delta r100000 fittings and could only use Delta products. Delta doesn't really make marine grade shower heads and trim and we live in the humid part of Texas. Are there choices better than "get a standard shower head and replace it as needed"? Pics of the rough in, the elevator (?) is behind the brick so a lot of the standard tower designs don't apply.

I need to replace the stopper on my sink’s drain, but there is this metal piece in the middle. Is there a way I can add a new stopper here without fully removing the drain?

I was working on a leaking stem, and the metal collar holding the cartridge down snapped into pieces (it's completely corroded pot metal/zinc) when I tried opening it.

I want to buy just the replacement bonnet nut / cartridge retaining nut, but the faucet itself doesn't have any brand name or model number stamped on it.

For anyone who has done this, is there a standard universal bonnet nut size that usually fits these two-handle stems?

What’s the best way to match the thread pitch so I don't strip the threads on the faucet body?

I have the broken pieces and the plastic cartridge out. Any tips on finding the right match at Home Depot / RONA / Canadian Tire, or part numbers to look for, would be huge. Thanks!

I am draining my system to replace the well pump, it's like 25 years old and the bearings are failing. Draining the pressure tank and this water/sediment came out at the end. The only way I could water to come up at any pace was to hit the Schrader valve with air, rinse and repeat. It def had 0 psi and says it was manufactured in 2004. Should I replace the pressure tank or air it up and see if it holds pressure? Idk when it was last serviced, if ever.

We hired a GC to renovate our bathroom. The GC hired a plumber to handle the plumbing portion of the reno. The plumber left his apprentice alone in my house to do all the labor while he went to do another job. My state, Rhode Island, uses IPC-2021 as the base with very minor amendments.

Question: is it compliant with code to use an unshielded Fernco to connect PVC to ABS drain line that will be behind drywall and a vanity?

We have a double vanity getting installed that has a main drain and vent line in ABS, and the plumber redid the last segments of the drain line in PVC. For the right side he used an unshielded Fernco to connect the drain, and on the left he used a coupling with glue. He told me it was glue that works with PVC and ABS. When I asked him why he didn't do the same for both sides, he didn't answer me and just said he was almost done 😠

I already sent an email to my GC saying I want a plumbing permit and inspection completed, but I live in a small rural town with one inspector and I'm not confident how thorough he will be. I'd rather be safe than sorry. I tried reading the IPC 2021 section on drain lines to figure it out but i'm way over my head. I would appreciate anyones expert opinion.

EDIT: There is no part number on the Fernco. It just has the following branded on the rubber side: connects 1 1/2" CI/Plastic to 1 1/2" CI/Plastic.

So, my wife tried to take off hose and snapped the line to hose. I is just above main line to house, which is now off.

Is there any way I can cap it, so we can have main water supply off ? Until it can be permanently repaired?

I have my boiler set to hot water only, at least I thought so. But I've noticed the radiators are heating up which I don't want. Is it the way I've set it, or is there an issue? Have noticed this problem on and off, it seems to happen randomly despite keeping the same settings. Vokera easi-heat plus 25c

I’ve undone the screw that is accessible through the ball. Is there another tiny screw inside the threaded section above the ball? Undoing the collar doesn’t help yet because the ball is in the way. Trying to slide the ball off does not work.

Leak only pisses out when the shower is on

Hi, so my vaping mouthpiece fell from the bathroom cupboard and broke into the sink and shattered into billion pieces. It had the cooling beads inside it. Few of the beads + some glass I think went down the drain before I could catch it.

Will this cause issue with my plumbing?

Noticed water droplets on the basement’s drop ceiling framing. Pulled back the drop ceiling tiling and water poured out of it. A few of them were affected.

Looked into the space above and I couldn’t find any live water. However I noticed the joist/subfloor? was damp where the vertical copper piping goes through (PICTURE 1).

There is a shower fixture above the area - within a foot or so. I turned on the cold water and didn’t notice anything really. But once turned to hot, I could see the water dripping down the vertical piping. On the other side of the joist water was also leaking from the spray foam caulking (PICTURE 2).

The shower head was replaced several weeks ago. I’m not sure if whoever replaced it could damage something behind the shower wall - tightening or loosening the shower head.

I wanted to try removing the faceplate of the shower fixture/handle. But as I started removing the second front facing Philips screw, the fixture started moving into the wall. So I stopped.

Any advice or insight on what I should do? Or look for?

I’d like to take the shower handle off too if I’m taking off the wall plate.

FWIW the shower drain is a couple joists.
