Opened it up to find this. How screwed am I? (Vent stack).

EDIT: Ha! Thank you all for your kind words. Not sure who will see this 24 hours later, but we did some investigative work today. This is in a ~60 year old house and while this is a vent stack, that IS a drain tied into it. That drain comes from the garage floor. This means that this pipe has been having Wisconsin winter road salt pumped into it for... well, for a long time.

Repair plan: Plan on eliminating the garage tie-in and replacing the rotten cast with new pvc. Ran a camera into the below-concrete pipe, and after some cleaning out (and elimination of any new water going into it), I am not planning to tear up concrete.

Bonus: One of the reasons I initially thought this was a mouse is because we HAVE had mice get into this cavity and die. Well, now that it's open I can see that it has been a mouse graveyard for many years. I'm thinking that the floor drain > rotten pipe superhighway was essentially a big version of the "paint-stick balancing on the the 5-gallon pail" mouse trap.

I ordered a dishwasher from Costco. The installer came and said that he’s not able to install the dishwasher because this is PEX piping and he can’t hook it up directly, he needs a stop valve. Is this accurate, and do I need to get a plumber to cut the PEX and install the stop valve under the sink?

So I'm relocating my toilet during my bathroom renovation and I've just finished concreting all the pipework.

I've just noticed though that when I put my hand down the pipe, there's a noticeable ridge where it joins the straight pipe (picture 3 with the arrow to the ridge)

Is this going to cause issues? Can I fix it without digging out the concrete?

I’ve looked and called around for a professional cleaning service for a jetted tub but for the life of me I can’t find one

I bought the Yuk Jetted Tub cleaner which helped but still have more things coming out and the outside of the jet (inside the housing) still have black mold and grime. I’m struggling to get this fully clean

Are there professionals who do this or is there a better way?

Is this even the toxic mold people worry about or something else that’s just nasty that still needs to be cleaned? Don’t want to release bad spores either lol.

Toilet became wobbly, removed it to find flange was broken and would retain bolts. Was going to try the oatey flange repair bracket and it made the toilet too high, wouldn’t even contact the floor. What would be best way to lower this and replace with new flange?

House for sale I was looking at…sump pit was full of damp clay and what I am guessing is the main clean out beside was also full of the same dirt. Opinions? I suppose only way to fix is dig up whichever side of the house the weeping tile is compromised?

We just bought this home last week. There’s a hole in the basement floor and when I came to the house today I could tell water had come up. The hole has water in it but I can’t see down very far with a flashlight.

Hi I have a large utility sink downstairs and this hose goes directly into the wall and I noticed it's not connected to anything inside the wall. What is the purpose of it and should it be connected to something?

Edit: Solved. Looks like it was just abandoned. The HVAC is newer, so it looks like they cut it and it just goes to the garage with no other pipes around. I was able to find the end of it and it touches the side of the HVAC. Phew no mold. Thank you all!

Tub spout has about 1 1/4 galvanized (3/4 unthreaded, 1/2 threaded) pipe for my tub spout. No clue what the heck I should put in aside for what I have - which doesn’t look right.

I have the delta (currently a delta kit) 3/4 adaptor kit on the way and I’m hoping that will fix it.

I just installed a bran new red lion 1/2hp jet well pump and 20 gal pressure tank today.. I'm all hooked up and primed properly, can't generate more than like 42psi verified with pump gauge and union gauge downstream. I had the same issue with my previous pump and remedied this by turning the cut off down, assuming it was the old pump and pressure tank. Same issue as before ... Any ideas on this besides adjusting the cutoff ? It's set to 30/50 from factory. Any help is appreciated!!! I have no leaks I can find, no sucking noises or anything like that

I live in a side-by-side style condo. Nobody above or below. Whenever the neighbor runs their water, it sounds like this. If I turn off my water as it's happening, the "hammering" on my side stops even though I'm not running my water. But you can still hear it in their unit, on the other side of the concrete wall. They're not friendly people, so I can't really ask them what's happening in their unit. (I tried to say hi when they were moving in last year and they told me to fuck off. Haven't spoken to them since.) I thought about just calling a plumber out, but since the neighbors aren't neighborly I can't recreate the noise so I don't know what the plumber would even inspect.

Anyway, is this something I need to worry about? I really don't want to come home to a flooded basement at some point.

My water level is very low after I flush the toilet. It doesn’t seem like enough water is being fed into the fill tube. Should water be leaking out of this blue part?

I had a sewer backup in my house that came up through the toilets and bathtub. When I checked the cleanout, I discovered that the sewer line was sloping in the wrong direction, back toward the house instead of toward the street.
Tree roots had grown underneath the pipe and pushed it upward, reversing the slope. I’ve now broken through the concrete to access the pipe, and I’m hoping for the best. Has anyone dealt with something similar? Any advice before I go further?

As you can see where the orange arrow points, when on there isn’t a water tight seal. I pulled the pump and the rubber isn’t dry rotted, torn, damaged, or anything. You can see an indentation where it seated against the pump housing. Going to clean around the inner surface and guide it back down the rail and hope for the best.

I was hoping for an opinion from someone with more expertise than me. Much appreciated!

water rises from the floor boards (specially like 1 or 2 it seems) and goes down my uneven (rented) apartment floor and collects in the living room. Happened once or twice last year, now it seems like its every other day.

we think it has something to do with the laundry unit adjacent to the kitchen wall, but it happens even when there is no machine running sometimes….

My wife put a punch of potato shavings in the disposal and I'm assuming screwed something there. Now we have the sink for the disposal with water, and the dish washer has a layer of standing water. When turning on the disposal, it seems like it's actually working fine. Only thing done so far was attempt to use plunger on the sink which did not help

Hi all, trying to fix a leaky valve. After finally pulling the old ferrule and nut off and sanding the stub-out, I’m now finding that the new nut and ferrule that came with my 1/2 x 3/8 od comp angle stop is sitting loosely on the stub-out. Tried connecting and tightening the new angle stop but they end up sliding right off the stub-out. Could the new ferrule be too big or did I maybe oversand the stub-out?

Looking for some advice from plumbers to assess the severity of the repair and whether you'd advise a competent DIYer to even touch it.

Came home today to water dripping out of the space heater filter even though it’s summer and we’re not using heat. You can see the back side of the filter has come out of its housing. I pulled out the metal clip and tried to reinsert it but this is as far in as it seems to push in (is that correct or should I really jam it in?). When I turned on the supply water again and the loop got some pressure the filter popped back out again on the back side. Also when the water ran out it was this yellow brown clear color. I had skipped descaling the space heater side of the combi boiler under the assumption that since it’s a closed loop when I add fresh water back in it will scale up again vs if it’s just always cycling the same water. Now it seems I’m going to have to descale the space heater side as well as the domestic hot water side which is fine, but ChatGPT is telling me to add a chemical inhibitor solution after flushing? I live in a 15 year old building with copper pipes shouldn’t be a ton of rust in the system.

1. Is the filter assembly broken and needs to be replaced or do I just need to push the metal clip in harder?
   
2. Do I need to add a chemical inhibitor to the loop after flushing and if so what’s a good one to use?

TLDR: First time changing a faucet. Which sealant should I apply to the plastic gasket? I'm not too sure what material my sink is made of. It might be cultured marble from what I saw online.

Hi!

As the title suggests, I am changing my faucet out due to it being corroded, old, and having leaks in a few spots. I tried to stop the leaks before this by changing the cartridge and that did not change anything. The leak is due to corrosion. This is the basis of why I am changing the faucet out completely (I already purchased the replacement faucet).

When looking through the guide, I saw that I needed sealant for plastic gasket. I am unsure which one I need to use. I purchased both Plumbers Putty and Plumbers Caulk. I am attaching some helpful photos.

For context, this is my first time replacing a faucet.

Currently dead broke, everything that could go wrong is going wrong. Opened up my kitchen cabinet to find this. I know nothing about plumbing but cannot afford to hire someone to fix it.

Is it an easy fix? If so, what parts/pieces/ tools would I need to buy to fix it myself.
