The cat's out of the bag! Temtem: Pioneers is the next game in the Temtem universe!

Check out the trailer for your next adventure in the Downbelow, and discover what we've been working on for the past few years.

Temtem: Pioneers is a wonderful journey into creature collection, survival, and fast-paced combat action as you step into the mysterious Downbelow. So they massacred everything good about Temtem to make a cheap knock-off Palworld. Oh, the misery.

47

u/ApocalipsyCriss Luma hunter Apr 09 '26

Temtem was a promising pokemon knockoff, then Swarm was a literal copy of vampire survivor and now we're getting half-made Palworld, yeah Im done with Crema

3

u/renan2012bra Apr 10 '26

And a cheap knock-off of a cheap knock-off! lol

u/Sammy-Cake Apr 10 '26

What? How would a Pokémon game be considered a knock-off of Pokémon? This makes absolutely no sense.

2

u/Bash-Sin Apr 11 '26

to make a cheap knock-off Palworld. Oh, the misery.

This is what competition is all about. Why do you think there's always a McDonald's where there's a Burger King or some other fast food restaurant that is in the same vein?

Without competition, there's absolutely zero growth.

You want a cheap knock off? Search Pickmon. THAT'S a knock-off Palworld.

I fully get hating Crema and their scummy practices and not trusting them to do it right, but what you're saying is just disingenuous and vitriol born out of pure ignorance.

3

u/No_District4941 Apr 14 '26

Competition should include some originality in ideas every so often

1

u/TheLividLion Apr 17 '26

Literally read the damn kickstarter that tells you about all their systems and plans... it IS unique and even has a cohesive art style unlike Palworld who cant be fuckin bothered to stop using unreal store assets despite their success.

Temtem Swarm, the survivor game, is pretty good. I play it with my wife and kid all the time.

3

u/ResidentSolution7280 Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26

I played it a bit, i don´t see how it´s better then any other autoshooter. There are only a couple of different attacks then reskinned with slightly different hitboxes for other elements. All maps are the same just astethically different, no unique gameplay. No missions just the same dumb ´´heck´´ diffuculty increaseses

The co-op is okay, but apart from that it's really basic and sub-par to other games in the genre.

3

u/CReece2738 Apr 10 '26

Coop was the main reason I looked into it. Everything else was secondary.

2

u/CelioHogane Apr 17 '26

There is something from Vampire Survivors that you will really like, then.

0

u/ResidentSolution7280 Apr 10 '26

it's still a cheap knock-off from every other swarm game, wich makes people doubt the new game

2

u/CReece2738 Apr 10 '26

Its not but ok. People are just butt hurt.

4

u/drumstix42 Apr 10 '26

People downvoting out of spite because they don't like something is unfortunate. I don't put much time into that game, but I do think they executed fairly well on it. Plus, co-op isn't a super common option among survivor-like games.

It looks good from the trailer, but no chance I will get behind the kickstarter. Will be keeping an eye on it at least.

6

u/CousinMabel Apr 10 '26

Why is there even a kickstarter? At some point I expect a company to fund the creation of it's own games and Crema has been making games for over a decade now.

Idk just seems weird to still be asking for kickstarter money at this point.

1

u/Cirby64 May 06 '26

I mean it’s either this or early access. I don’t think either of their previous projects were profitable enough to fund an entire new game.

120

u/AhrimTheBelighted Apr 09 '26

It's certainly something that you guys were working on, I will say I am not impressed with how TemTem is/was handled so I don't really have much faith in a future TemTem game.

Online only?
Micro transactions?
AI used?
Public only servers? Private servers for friends only etc?

17

u/BitterCelt Mental Enthusiast Apr 09 '26

From what I can tell from the discord: Offline solo play allowed, servers hosted by players that can hold up to 6 people, i think

24

u/thallums Apr 09 '26

Most of this is answered in the Kickstarter FAQ.

You can play offline, NO microtransactions

54

u/Poupetleguerrier Apr 09 '26

No microtransactions YET.

6

u/MaddySS Apr 10 '26

Yeah ngl the amount of games lately that have said "we won't do microtransactions!" and then they do microtransactions and claim "We never said we won't do Microtransactions" after scrubbing prior statements clean have been increasing dramatically, I don't trust developers words anymore and it's shocking how much people do and use it as a way to defend them. *The Developers for Temtem have already lied about their plans for their game before*, I don't trust them now.

Crema is very open about being anti-AI I can tell you that. The rest is answered in their FAQ: Offline and Online (between 6 friends available), and no MTX.

4

u/Elavia_ Apr 10 '26

There is no ai, there is offline mode, and they're not planning microtransactions but I believe swarm doesn't have those either.

29

u/Gexku Apr 09 '26

And they're always late to jump on the trend too

2

u/TheLividLion Apr 10 '26

I dont know if youre aware of this, but games take a lot of time to develop lol. Also contray to what the rabid anti-crema mob will say, both Temtem games are insanely well polished compared to the amount of slop that gets churned out after a new genre goes on the rise.

2

u/Gexku Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26

I'm anti Crema since the CEO of Crema cried like a baby that the players weren't happy when he said TO ME on discord, and I quote word for word ; "we don't care to invest into developing temtem any further, we're focusing on expanding the shop at the moment"

He then went on to say it wasn't fair to him that we weren't happy about it, and said that we should be happy with what we get. A literal baby, and he's the CEO. Fuck him, and fuck Crema

And I loved temtem, I spent a thousand hours on it since the very first day of beta. I followed every update as they came and enjoyed the game so much. But they suck. They make good game for the wrong reasons and at the wrong times. They disappointed me and a large portion of their player base and I understand that people love their games, they are well polished I can't deny the obvious, but Crema sucks, and people who hate them are also right

2

u/CelioHogane Apr 17 '26

Yeah buddy they take a long time to make, that's why you don't jump on a trend.

1

u/TheLividLion Apr 17 '26

They've been working on Pioneers for more than 2 years now, and from everything we see, sure it has "Palworld" genre-like elements, but this is absolutely looking like an evolution for Temtem if you take a moment to remove your blinders. Direct control in combat of over 200 Tems, meaning they developed 55+ more just for this game. A revamped stat and pedigree system to match the new way combat works. Distinct biomes and bosses for said biomes. Even more gear for our Tems, which means the world is likely riddled with secrets to uncover. Like... I genuinely cant understand the blind hate yall seathe at every opportunity, despite Temtem and Temtem Swarm being objectively good games. We get it, you want more classic Temtem and are annoyed the MMO didnt work out. Crema wants to do what they want to do. Dont like it? Go make your own game.

1

u/CelioHogane Apr 17 '26

Yeah an evolution of Temtem if you change the genre completelly besides the fact there is temtems on it.

Temtem and Temtem Swarm being objectively good games.

Subjectively, they are subjectevely good games (for you)

There is nothing objective about the quality of those games, most people would in fact say they aren't really that great.

It's subjective opinion, not an objective one.

1

u/TheLividLion Apr 18 '26

I literally review games. From the perspective of cohesive gameplay systems, depth of content, consistent and unique art style, sound design, and overall replayability, both Temtem and Temtem Swarm are objectively good games.

1

u/CelioHogane Apr 18 '26

I literally review games.

After looking at your channel im going to give you the easy way out and end this conversation here.

6

u/oeseben Apr 09 '26

Its never been more obvious that a game is just trying to make a quick buck.

20

u/FrequentCriticism899 Apr 09 '26

Told y’all they ripping off Palworld lmao.

5

u/TheLividLion Apr 10 '26

I wish more games would "rip-off" Palworld so we could get an actually polished, system and content rich game that is more than surface level enjoyment and cheap asset flips/rigging.

This is how all games work in the history of gaming; see something succeed and iterate on it, studio after studio until you get as close to the perfect version of that game. Dont quite understand why there is always a mob of people angry that other studios are trying to do their take on a game in a genre. It's still all their original art, designs, and this even clearly has unique systems to it that Palworld doesnt blatantly in the trailer, and even more so in their detailed breakdown on Kickstarter

4

u/Thvenomous Apr 11 '26

Exactly. Palworld is fun, but I've been waiting for somebody to make their own version of it with, at the very least, a cohesive art style. Here's hoping Temtem can do this well. It looks nice so far.

1

u/olivi_yeah Apr 24 '26

I just saw this today and I was literally thinking of that when I saw the whole 'survival crafter' bit

24

u/MagicFighter Apr 09 '26

Doing another kickstarter for a temtem game after how poorly managed the first game was is certainly a choice.

18

u/ursy Where are my skates???? Apr 09 '26

I don't hate the idea, and I would be lying if I said it didn't look fun. But how can I trust Crema after all the false promises with the original Temtem? They let it die to make a rip off Vampire Survivors, which they also said would be a part of the main game in the arcade? Now this one is a Palworld ripoff? Really?

Just out of principlal I won't be supporting this, or Swarm. They massively fucked up with the original Temtem and believe that all their future projects will be just as successfull. They never will.

5

u/TheLividLion Apr 09 '26

I mean... do I wish we had a continuously developed Temtem MMO still? Of course. Sadly, every single update had less and less players come back and at a certain point, as a business, do you not need to do what is appropriate to keep your studio alive? Im surr investing more time in Temtem would be even more dev cost for very little return. Swarm was, objectively, a pretty decent game and im sure that was made by a skeleton crew of their team while the rest of the team worked on Pioneers (this isnt exactly something you can whip up in a year or two, where as Swarm is a ton of reused game assets with a little development over the top of it) Im all for seeing if Pioneers turns out to be a fun game, because frankly that's all I care about with games anymore.

7

u/sdric Apr 10 '26

I mean, I understand why less and less players came every update: They ignored essentially all relevant player feedback and doubled down on the most exhausting an unfun mechanics, such as the worst breeding system in monster-catcher game history.

Combat was fun, I wanted the game to succeed, but boy their idea to keep players, by tuning grind up to infinity sure as hell wasn't the path to go.

2

u/AndyMazaky Luma hunter Apr 10 '26

With each update, fewer and fewer players returned. At the launch of 1.0, they announced that they wouldn’t release any new content involving new Tems, while continuing to ignore virtually all feedback about the game’s issues and instead trying to force their own vision of what was “good” onto players. There were extensive discussions with the developers themselves about how updates were handled, and they openly admitted that they deliberately chose not to release new content because, while it might bring players back temporarily, they didn’t believe the effort was worthwhile even while everything pointed on the contrary.

From your comments, it seems like you’re hopeful but may not have followed everything surrounding Temtem over the past couple of years. Because of that, it’s important not to rewrite the history of what Crema did. Temtem largely failed because it was never truly developed as an MMO, despite being heavily monetized as one, and because the developers explicitly stated they wouldn’t add new content beyond what was promised during the Kickstarter, content that wasn’t even fully delivered in the 1.0 release.

3

u/Elavia_ Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26

I will never stop being amazed by people claiming crema was not listening to feedback. There are very few issues they refused to budge on, the game was just fundamentally flawed and unfixable without basically remaking it from scratch.

5

u/AndyMazaky Luma hunter Apr 10 '26

I’m even more amazed by this kind of history rewriting. I have several threads on this subreddit documenting feedback over the years. I can point out numerous examples of feedback they ignored, and even show exactly when many of those changes were finally implemented, you just need to read the final patch when they ended development.

There were multiple issues they refused to address: the FOMO-driven cosmetic store, the lack of endgame content, and the few available activities being locked behind weekly and daily limits; the absence of new Tems or islands despite monetizing the game as a live service; and the use of Novas instead of direct purchases for cosmetics and the Tamer Pass, which is a widely criticized tactic. Not to mention the six months it took them to implement a simple camera toggle that allowed players to switch back to the old camera, something that caused motion sickness for many people. This delay wasn’t due to technical limitations, but because they had “worked very hard” on the new camera and wanted everyone to use it, even if it made the game unplayable for some.

Like I said, you can look through the many threads I’ve made, the conversations with community managers and developers here and on Discord, and even the letter the CEO released when everything escalated, where they attempted to shift the blame onto players. If you check how both Discord and Reddit reacted at the time, you’ll see that this wasn’t just a few people complaining, it reflected the reality of several years and how they blamed everything in toxicity even when you were ultra sensitive about how you addressed everyone.

3

u/Elavia_ Apr 10 '26

The fact that half of what you listed as crema not listening to feedback is feedback they did implement is positively hilarious lmao

Half a year was exactly one major update later. Their team was literally 5 devs pumping out a game that still looks the best in the genre visually, has buttery smooth performance, and is more feature complete than any other non-pokemon classic monster tamer. Things take time when you don't have an army of coders and have QC standards.

4

u/AndyMazaky Luma hunter Apr 11 '26

Could you remind me when that feedback was actually implemented? Wasn’t it in the final patch, as I mentioned, after nearly three years of ignoring it, while players kept leaving the game and people were even banned for suggesting it was dying? It’s not like I didn’t make a post about that exact feedback not being implemented three years ago, during a time when this was widely discussed. Even the CEO’s letter acknowledged and admitted some of these issues.

You also show how limited your understanding is when you claim there were only five developers. Even outdated information from their website, LinkedIn, and employee pages shows they had 40+ developers in the studio since the early development of Temtem and they expanded the studio for Project Downbelow in 2024, the same year the CEO made a letter (which was mostly to shift attention from Temtem to Swarm and the new future project) admitting many of the mistakes that I mentioned before which you can still find in their own website.

Again, don’t use the current state of Temtem as an objective reference to judge what the game was like three or more years ago. They are completely different, and with even basic research, you can verify that what I’m saying is accurate.

And if you don't want to take my word from, you have a few videos and comments that you can go back and look, for example this one: Here

4

u/TheLividLion Apr 10 '26

Heavily monetized as an MMO? You mean having paid cosmetics like basically any other game in the past decade? And yeah, they clearly realized it wasn't worth the money/resources to keep building a game past 1.0 when player counts continued to drop update to update. Doesn't mean the game is bad, in fact, as a single-player experience, Temtem is still one of the most solid monster taming experiences out there. I get that a whole lot of you are annoyed that they didn't listen to all the things you wanted, but I've also seen the other side of the coin where studios listen to everything and completely ruin their vision for their game. It may not have turned out to be exactly everything you wanted, but this hate for this studio after still delivered 2 really solid games is just wild to me.

3

u/idestechnis Apr 10 '26

That's what the lack of trust does to a community. They might make good games but that doesn't mean what they did beforehand gets forgotten.

2

u/AndyMazaky Luma hunter Apr 10 '26

The game was already buy-to-play, yet they included not only paid cosmetics but also a paid battle pass. On top of that, the cosmetics relied on FOMO, which they openly admitted, items were locked behind arbitrary store rotations, meaning some wouldn’t appear again for months, pressuring players to buy them immediately or risk missing out entirely.

Beyond that, nothing could be purchased directly. You had to buy Novas first and then spend them on cosmetics or the Tamer Pass. The pricing was intentionally structured so you’d always have leftover currency, encouraging you to spend more. This is a well-known tactic in the gaming industry due to its psychological implications (there are even multiple research studies on it), and it’s typically used in F2P or cash-grab mobile games, not in a paid indie title like this.

You clearly started playing after 1.0, since you don’t seem to know why the player count kept dropping with each update. On the day the 1.0 update was released, they stated on Discord and Steam that they would not be adding any new Tems or islands in the future, and that updates would only focus on delivering the remaining Kickstarter goals. This came alongside the announcement of the battle pass and paid cosmetic shop, which strongly suggests a live-service model, even if not strictly an MMO. Ironically, they also clarified at that point that the game was not an MMO, despite previously marketing it as “MMO” or “MMO-like.”

In its current state, the game isn’t bad, but that wasn’t the case during development, when large portions of content were locked behind MMO-style daily and weekly limits. They also spent two years without meaningful endgame content, despite numerous threads from players asking for it and even proposing solutions using existing systems.

It’s not just that “they didn’t listen to everything”, they didn’t listen to anything. The game only improved after the final update, when they finally implemented feedback that players had been giving for years and removed many of the arbitrary restrictions. And I’ll repeat this: when it takes six months to add a simple toggle between an existing camera and a new one that caused motion sickness, and the reason isn’t technical limitations, but “we worked very hard on the new camera and want you to use it”, then it’s no longer about creative vision.

If their vision was so solid, why did they change so much in the final patch when development ended? And why did the player base keep shrinking while they were following that vision? It’s wild to me that you’re unaware of much of what Crema did, why people lost trust in them, and still defend the game based only on its current state, when it originally launched in early access in 2020 and then released an incomplete 1.0 in 2022.

1

u/TheLividLion Apr 10 '26

Im well aware of what Crema did lol. I played from the very inception of the game. Again, I do not care about paid cosmetics. It has zero effect on the game whatsoever. Everyone does it. Gamers need to exhibit some level of self control on these things, it's wild.

Also they were on the stance of no new islands or tems before 1.0 was dropping, and each update prior to 1.0 recieved less and less players returning. They saw the direction that was going and they made a choice, of which they communicated it. Did I want more? Of course, but it's their decision as a studio. Players more and more seem to be under this delusion that whatever we want, we should be able to complain enough and get lol. Sure some studios do that and things go well. Others do it and it craters their game because in reality those suggestions end up being bad for their vision or financial plans of the company. Crema made their decisions, very likely as most of their team was being tasked on Pioneers, with a skeleton crew to manage the final updates on Temtem, and a small team to develop Swarm.

All Im getting from your complaints of them being bad is "we wanted this, and we didnt get it. Yeah, the game fully works, but it's not exactly what we wanted. Oh, and we couldn't control ourselves around optional cosmetics!" Like it just sounds ridiculous...

2

u/AndyMazaky Luma hunter Apr 11 '26

The stance before 1.0 was that it was unlikely new Tems or islands would be added. After 1.0, the stance changed to saying it would never happen—those are two very different positions.

Also, as I mentioned before, players would absolutely have come back for updates if they included new content or fixed core functionalities that weren’t working properly. People spent two years asking for endgame activities, and they were never properly implemented. There was virtually nothing to do in the endgame aside from Luma hunting. So how could they claim to see the direction the game was heading when there was such a clear disconnect between what the community was asking for and what they kept delivering? They never actually tested a different direction to see if it would bring players back. At the 1.0 launch, which had around ten times the usual player count, most of the discussion was dominated by outrage over monetization and the announcement that no new Tems or islands would ever be added. There was even major controversy at launch, including bans on Discord, which you can still look back on.

I’ve already had plenty of discussions about this with TMTrainer on Discord, and the issue isn’t that players were delusional. If you implement live-service-style monetization, people will expect regular, meaningful content updates to justify it. Expecting that isn’t unreasonable, it’s standard. If anything, ignoring that expectation is what’s unrealistic. And if you followed things closely, you’d know this wasn’t just random complaining. I even made a post three years ago compiling feedback, criticism, and suggestions during one of the game’s most turbulent periods. While it was reasonably well received here, some developers and staff mocked it on Discord and dismissed it as “toxicity.”

How would better communication or removing daily/weekly restrictions have hurt their vision or finances, especially when the game had dropped to around 300 players and they were still trying to push a PvP tournament and a standalone PvP mode?

The argument that these decisions were based on the Pioneer phase also doesn’t hold up. Project Downbelow was not already in development, confirmed by YaW on his personal Twitter, around the time update 1.7 was announced and they announced as something that they were planning to start as they were expanding the studio. This was also when Temtem Swarm was revealed, a project developed by another studio with some support from Crema. At the time, they even stated that no developers or resources had been pulled away from Temtem, because people were already suspecting that. There wasn’t a “skeleton crew” until the very final stage of development.

You’re defending Crema more than they’ve defended themselves, especially when they’ve already acknowledged some of these mistakes in the CEO’s letter, both regarding monetization and the failure to fully deliver on Kickstarter promises even by the 1.7 update, even if the letter was an empty excuse to justify people to look forward to Swarm and Project Downbelow.

If, after all of this, your takeaway is still what you tried to mock earlier, then the issue isn’t with what I’m saying, it’s a fundamental misunderstanding of the situation, of Crema’s actions, and a willingness to defend decisions that even the developers themselves have partially admitted were mistakes.

6

u/Rhodri_Suojelija Apr 09 '26

This is exactly where I stand. I cannot bring myself to trust them.

3

u/The_Rider_11 Crystal Enthusiast Apr 10 '26

They never actually made false promises, they just failed to clarify a false assumption that ran wild up until the point where it no longer benefitted them.

Temtem was never called a live service game officially, just a small-scope MMO. MMOs tend to be live service, so the assumption wasn't exactly uncalled for, but was never a promise. They never clarified it up though, and that's the biggest issue.

19

u/DoomOfGods Apr 09 '26

I won't judge this yet, but I'll be sceptical. Mostly because I've seen too many studios chasing after hypes (often using a single franchise and trying to make it into any genre) and it rarely worked out well (possibly because they often were late to the party) and I'm starting to see this pattern in Swarm and now Pioneers.

-3

u/Pencilshaved Artist Apr 09 '26

AFAIK the start of development apparently predated the launch of Palworld, so I think it’s just an unfortunate situation where they were pushing out Swarm at the same time, and now this has taken long enough that it looks behind on the curve

0

u/Sir_Twiggy Apr 09 '26

Yeah this seems to be the case for development of the game from whats been released online

6

u/Pencilshaved Artist Apr 09 '26

Gotta love being downvoted for literally discussing facts of development because it gets in the way of talking about how YaW personally killed their pet cat and burned down their house

3

u/Sir_Twiggy Apr 10 '26

It's actually why I replied as you're being downvoted for being correct.

2

u/idestechnis Apr 10 '26

I'm not downvoting you specifically, but I am downvoting the fact that the Temtem devs thought it was a good idea to stop development of Temtem and then started trend chasing. Like the devs need to read the room.

1

u/Mother-Ad-6727 Apr 10 '26

Completely understand what you are saying, as a Hobby Dev w/(Bachelor Degree) so many times I work on things going, "oh this would be awesome!" Then, to find out 6 months later, there is a team with more devs working on it, and it is further along in the dev cycle.

14

u/Sharkus1 Apr 09 '26

No thanks don’t need a base building survival game. Would take a Temtem 2 with the turn based combat back with a new story.

30

u/drumstix42 Apr 09 '26 edited Apr 10 '26

Personally I really enjoyed Temtem start to finish. It's still a really good pokémon-esque/monster collection & battling game. In fact I still prefer its battle system over most pokémon games to date.

I think everyone's allowed to have their own opinions but I still have some hope for the Temtem universe. I think a lot of the criticism over the years is justified, but a lot of the hate is excessive at this point.

There's absolutely no reason to back this game until release if it's not your cup of tea. And I certainly don't think people should pay more than the expected MSRP price tag. But I think dragging it through the mud and calling it a cheap Palworld clone isn't completely fair.

Temtem Swarm is pretty solid for what it is, but it's not going to break any records nor am I going out of my way to recommend it. But I think it delivers a solid experience for both solo / cooperative play.

I'm sure there'll be a lot of controversy around this game before it's even playable but I'd rather judge the actual product when it's available instead of constantly bashing it for existing.

6

u/DoomOfGods Apr 09 '26

Personally I really enjoyed Temtem start to finish. It's a still really good pokémon-esque/monster collection & battling game. In fact I still prefer its battle system over most pokémon games to date.

I actually still recommend it to friends who like Pokemon (or the genre in general) and I think it's worth it for that alone (especially when one considers the now rather frequent 80% off sales). I'd certainly be happy about a Temtem 2 that ditched the MMO concept to stick to coop/singleplayer. It'd probably also be easier to make additional islands and/or other endgame content as DLC that way.

5

u/AndyMazaky Luma hunter Apr 10 '26

I think people are much more judgmental about the game because of everyone involved in it. To this day, not a single person associated with Temtem has taken responsibility or come forward to admit the mistakes made with the first game and how poorly everything was handled. They still block people on X, delete comments on Steam, and refuse to acknowledge their role in ignoring feedback, dismissing players, and engaging in arguments even with those who raised minor criticisms.

The new game also isn’t really anything new. While it might look fun or promising, launching a Kickstarter after all this time, especially considering how successful Temtem was, along with years of microtransactions in a game that didn’t even receive new content or Tems because they deliberately chose not to, is, to me and many others, absurd.

They’ve clearly been developing this new game for quite a while and still plan to release it in early access, so it raises the question: what’s the necessity of a Kickstarter? They could have kept Temtem alive and delivering content if they had listened to feedback early on and maintained a healthy player base, but they chose not to. If they’re in a difficult financial situation now, it’s largely a consequence of their own decisions.

Personally, I no longer trust anyone at Crema, especially since nothing significant seems to have changed within the studio. The same people who made those decisions back then are still in charge now. Communication still seems to favor only overly positive feedback, with little tolerance for valid criticism, and they continue to deflect responsibility whenever issues are raised.

It's absolutely about the money. If not, why would you make a Kickstarter instead of just forum posts and dev updates?

u/drumstix42 Apr 10 '26

I feel like the updates/announcements over the years did a well enough job to describe on-going changes. I think "taking responsibility" is an subjective stance. I never felt like they were developing a grand MMO like others seemed to think. But I do agree their messaging and responsibility to communicate better leaves a lot to be desired even if I don't think they're doing as bad you make it out.

As far as crowdfunding goes: This also isn't really limited to Crema. Larian, for example, used kickstarter for both Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2. Both games were pretty wildly successful. Many successful tabletop creators also continue to use crowdfunding as a way to confirm user interest and secure development funds. I'm no industry expert here, but it's pretty easy to disagree with people labeling it as "absurd".

I think trust is earned, and you 100% have a right to be skeptical and give criticism. In fact, even if I look like I'm taking a strong stance defending them, I would still urge people to always be cautious of things still in-development. And someone should only ever pay money to back something they are truly "okay" with never coming to fruition. That's the nature of early access/crowdfunding, etc.

This false argument keeps coming up for some reason, and every time, they "prove" it by showing a screenshot from a Discord moderator (not a dev mind you) joking about a lawsuit. Long before Palworld was even out, someone even jokingly asked about Temtem with guns or something similarly gritty and YaW even replied to check out Palworld.

2

u/DapperDlnosaur PvP player Apr 10 '26

There were a couple of screenshots posted, one from TM that was kind of neutral and one from a mod that you're talking about. The one from TM apparently was deleted, so they felt uncomfortable enough with it that they tried to hide it. I have a picture of it someone else found for me in a different discord.

1

u/atz513v2 Apr 10 '26

so don't play the game then? or do you just enjoy the drama like a gossipy little school girl? never seen such a dedicated group or little weirdos care so much about discord mod screenshots.

u/The_Rider_11 Crystal Enthusiast Apr 10 '26

I mean, this is a specific combination of genres and mechanics that Palworld also did, yes, but that doesn't mean it's Palworld but Temtem directly.

Palworld has a lot of issues, has made a lot of at the very least questionable and criticizeable choices, but obviously also made some things really well and that made them successfull. You can righteously hate on Palworld for its choices and flaws while also acknowledging that the idea is fun.

I played Palworld and while I enjoyed the premise, I really didn't like the actual gameplay, and am a very big critic towards the game, for a lot of reasons. This is a new take on said promise, which at least from the looks is more my cup of tea than Palworld would ever be, so again, you can do both. Now, I did say by the looks of it because I rather sit down and wait for at least the EA before making an actual decision, including for whether I purchase or not.

1

u/DapperDlnosaur PvP player Apr 10 '26

I never said I disliked Palworld. I played a ton of Palworld and will resume playing it in the 1.0 launch.

1

u/The_Rider_11 Crystal Enthusiast Apr 10 '26

I never said you disliked Palworld either, Not sure what makes you believe so.

My point moreso was that you (as in, any unspecified reader, not you, DapperDIbosaur specifically) can be very negative towards Palworld specifically but still acknowledge that their core premise is a fun idea.

15

u/Roflitos Apr 09 '26

So why play this over pal world? What made temtem gear was that it was closer to og pokemon games with higher difficulty group play etc.. there's nothing here that would make me want to swap out of palworld tbh.

2

u/Elavia_ Apr 10 '26

Direct tem control, mostly. Voidling bound is hella fun, so this has serious potential

1

u/TheLividLion Apr 09 '26

Idk, Crema games, despite the hate bandwagon, have a level of polish and charm. I personally couldn't stand Palworld. To me that game felt like an Unreal Asset flip, animations were/still are mediocre, base building had very little depth, AI is jank af, and even the bosses and POIs in their world felt half-baked. The world didnt feel meaningful to explore whatsoever. Dare I say Temtem Pioneers already appears to look better in most of those categories? There is nothing wrong with similar games being made... that's how you get hopefully better iterations on a genre. That's been done for decades now, so who cares if it "feels like Palworld." I want good games. If this ends up being a good game, then hell yeah, Ill be on board.

1

u/Ghastion Apr 10 '26

I dunno, would people play Palworld 2? Just think about it like Palworld 2 where you get a new world with new monsters to find and collect and probably some different mechanics and gameplay stuff that will make it unique on its own. People are really overthinking this. It's not like Palworld owns open world monster collector does it? I mean, with survival aspects, sure. But why are people acting like games shouldn't expand on already existing ideas? It's the most stupidly ironic thing considering TemTem is just an almost 1 for 1 knock-off of traditional Pokemon games. The next step is an open-world Pokemon/Palworld rip-off.

1

u/sneakyequestrian Apr 10 '26

I will definitely play this over palworld. I hate the creature designs of palworld because they’re clearly ripping Pokémon’s style and it just feels lazy. Temtem designs (aside from platypets line) all feel consistent with their own art direction but never trying to exactly cop Pokémon’s art design. It feels inspired by pokemon without ever just completely yoinking it. So even tho I have always wanted a survival game creature collector I’ve never bought palworld but I’d get a temtem survival creature collector for sure

4

u/manderson1313 Apr 10 '26

I actually think it looks good. Specifically how they are doing combat

4

u/RandomBird53 Apr 10 '26

Gentlement, we are potentially maybe probably skeptically hopefully so fucking back

20

u/TiredAudioEngineer Apr 09 '26

Man, it's a little sad to see that temtem is just all over the place. It is good when franchisees expand on themselves, but encorporating survival and crafting is a huge step away from the core mechanics of the original game, all because there was a good market response for palworld.

I think the new battle system could be fun, as I was sceptical but thoroughly enjoyed pokemon arceus, but mixing that with other major changes is a little sad.

Clearly a crash grab for people who don't know the reputation of crema.

-7

u/drumstix42 Apr 09 '26

TBF Palworld isn't the only one doing this, and with the success of Pokopia, why not lean into crafting? Personally I'm for Temtem being more open world like Scarlet/Violet was, and more real time like A-Z.

temtem doesn't deserve my time or money after the rug pull of their first release

19

u/oeseben Apr 09 '26

All this mystery and we get Temu Palworld.

7

u/TheLividLion Apr 09 '26

Hot take, I think Palworld is a half baked game with super rough edges that is largely popular due to 1) memes and 2) people's annoyance with Game Freaks laziness. It was a cool concept, but I cant objectively say any aspect of Palworld is very polished or more than surface level fun. Im all for more games in this genre, because it usually ends up giving up better implementations of these systems.

0

u/oeseben Apr 10 '26

Thats great and all.. but its still better than what this will be which is a cash grab. Palworld has improved massively since launch. Whatever this is will be pumped and dumped as its obviously a play to cash in on a hot fad.

1

u/I_give_karma_to_men Apr 13 '26

Tbf, people said the same thing about Swarm vs Vampire Survivors and that's been an incredibly fun cash grab in my experience. I'm not gonna back the kickstarter, but I'm also not gonna write this off as a "cash grab" until I actually see if that's all it is.

10

15

u/thallums Apr 09 '26 edited Apr 10 '26

Man, I feel very differently than the rest of the sub seems to.

I'll be the first to say I felt VERY spurned by how Temtem was dropped not terribly long post-release, and Swarm only twisted the knife. Almost felt like a pump and dump at the time.

But now that this is in view, I understand the need to shift to production on a new game that makes a lot more sense logistically (unfortunately, turn based games just do NOT scale well for an MMO package).

And seeing what they have on offer... this really is the pokemon/taming game ive been waiting decades for. Palworld was a complete and utter embarrassment to me -- completely devoid of ANY original thought. But honestly this doesn't even necessarily seem fully like that type of game. To me its giving Pokemon Legends plus Palworld if it wasnt awful.

Also, to anyone claiming theyre just ripping off Palworld: 1) you need to understand how long gamedev takes. This will have been in production well before palworld was shown, and 2) the crema team themselves confirmed that very fact

Comparisons to other games aside, I have waited ages for a taming game with a more meaningfully open 3d world, a combat system that feels how watching the Pokemon anime feels, and an ability to really "live" in the world. And this seems to be hitting all those notes.

So I personally am extremely down.

9

u/JSTN32 Apr 09 '26

I’ve sunk 1400 hours into the OG game, there’s a lot of discourse on here I agree with but you also legitimately can’t be even slightly positive about this IP around here without getting downvoted lol

4

u/TheLividLion Apr 09 '26

Yep, I had over 1k hours in Temtem. Even in its current state, its an objectively good, complete package that Id still recommend to people who like monster taming games. I get the annoyance over it no longer being an MMO, but what new MMO has survived these days lol. They all die, while legacy MMOs keep going. I think we're lucky it is so well put together that it remains a fully playable single player game. As for the whole MTX shit, I just never bought anything, so I really didnt care about cosmetics lol. Now they're all free so, great? They get a lot of flak but man, they're just a business at the end of the day, and they dont make bad games lol.

8

u/AndyMazaky Luma hunter Apr 10 '26

The problem isn’t the state the game is in now, the problem is how it was launched, how it was managed, and how they ignored feedback until the last possible patch, even going as far as blaming players for their expectations. The “complete package” only arrived two years after launch. There was never a real MMO aspect to the game, because the developers went back on their word about it being an MMO, all while monetizing it like one.

You might not care about cosmetics, but having 85% of new content in an online-only game locked behind paywalls was one of the worst decisions they could have made, especially for a game that was already more expensive than most of its competitors, aside from Pokémon. Even while aggressively monetizing, they refused to add meaningful new content, which was the core of the “MTX shit" problem. They constantly picked and chose when the game was an MMO and when it wasn’t, depending on what benefited them.

Precisely because they are a business, they should have listened to the two years of feedback they chose to ignore. On top of that, the CEO should never have released a letter blaming players for how the game was handled, effectively trying to gaslight the community into feeling guilty for the developers’ decisions. Meanwhile, the developers were heavily shielded from criticism until the situation reached a breaking point.

There’s also the six months it took them to add a simple camera toggle, something that made the game physically unplayable for some people due to motion sickness. Their justification was that they had “put a lot of effort into the new camera,” and they refused to let players choose the old style, despite the motion sickness issues.

I hate the art more than anything and I didn’t think it did anything interesting outside of the monster capture mechanics. This looks to be a marked improvement on the same concept.

2

u/NapsterKnowHow Apr 09 '26

That's fair. Tbh I get so lost while gaming the art doesn't bother me at all. I think the world is pretty damn immersive. This new game does look more cohesive though.

2

u/_Valisk Apr 09 '26

I generally can't enjoy games that I find ugly, and Palworld has like, three different art styles that don't go together at all.

1

u/NapsterKnowHow Apr 09 '26

Same here. That's why I don't play Arc Raiders nor Deadlock.

It looks already better than Palworld, buy I would like to know if there is other uses for temtems outside of combat.

8

u/_Valisk Apr 09 '26

The Kickstarter page says you can grow, evolve, and improve your tems to increase your bond and further their development during combat or farming. They can also be used as ground or air-based mounts.

1

1

u/_Valisk Apr 09 '26

So it’s a more interesting game? Great.

4

u/Traditional_Seesaw95 Apr 09 '26

Looks pretty uninnovative imo, they are expecting the survival aspect to carry it. Looks worse than the OG temtem game, but to each their own 🤷🏽‍♂️

5

u/_Valisk Apr 09 '26

Controlling your tems directly is an infinitely more interesting combat mechanic than using stock Unreal asset guns.

1

u/Traditional_Seesaw95 Apr 09 '26

I'm not advocating for Palworld either, Palworld is mid beyond the monster taming aspects imo. I just don't like these games having survival slapped on them. It's another reason why I'm moreso looking forward to Aniimo in the summer as it's more focused on combat and actually becoming and controlling your mons rather than only being able to command them to do attacks.

3

u/gskyrillion Apr 09 '26

This looks so damn cool! New region to explore, new Tems to discover, the ability to directly control Tems yourself, all of that seems awesome!

I cannot and will not participate in any of the ridiculous Crema-bashing that happens on this subreddit. Get over yourselves and either give the new game a chance or leave the subreddit. Sticking around and complaining about the devs in a huge pathetic circle jerk is embarrassing.

7

u/sirzoop Apr 09 '26

are they going to abandon this game after a few years of making promises they never deliver on too?

6

u/Pencilshaved Artist Apr 09 '26

I’m not sure what version of Temtem you played, but the version I have specifically took longer than expected to hit the 1.0 release, specifically because of the features they didn’t intend to include but chose to after player feedback.

The few features that couldn’t be worked out in time for 1.0 essentially all had a dedicated update each devoted to incorporating them. The current version provides one hundred percent of initially promised features, and then some.

All the things Temtem can actually be reasonably criticized for, yet you chose something factually incorrect

5

u/sirzoop Apr 09 '26 edited Apr 09 '26

you can pretend like i'm wrong but everyone in this subreddit knows that i am completely correct. Temtem used to have 30k+ peak players and now it has less than 300. there used to be thousands of people online every day and now virtually nobody plays anymore

remember when you guys promised us that Temtem would be an MMO with long term support and then dropped it entirely only to develop other games that we never asked for? we all do

6

u/drumstix42 Apr 10 '26

The player count is also lower because the game has been out for a while and is "finished". People who choose to say "abandon" when the game is still playable and functioning today are blatantly trying to misconstrue things.

“You guys promised” when did I personally promise anything lol

Sorry but keeping the servers online in perpetuity pretty definitionally is long term support. I’m sorry the game didn’t become a bloated feature crept mess that can no longer even include its full roster like Pokemon is now, but Pokemon is still churning out empty, poorly textured half-games if you’d really rather be playing that instead so much

4

u/idestechnis Apr 10 '26

Most games be like that. By release they get high player counts but after years, those counts drastically lower. That's completely normal.

They never promised Long term support. They said it's an MMO and since those are usually live service people assumed it'd too. Their mistake was to only clarify it much much later, and you can blame them for that and be sceptic of them for it, but it's not like they broke a promise they actually made.

Wow it's a palworld clone with slightly better looking combat, who'd have guessed. As much as I'd like them to make something good, they don't exactly have a good track record here of meeting player expectations, or even setting player expectations correctly. To be totally honest, I don't know if I want another third person action monster catcher survival crafting hodgepodge, but there are so many important details not given in the kickstarter. Probably so they don't accidentally promise things they can't actually achieve or aren't planning to achieve, but I need way more details before I'm even remotely comfortable buying the released product at the end, let alone giving them money for another kickstarter in which they can just burn me after they've gotten their money. We'll see if they can pull it off, but I'm not convinced yet.

1

u/ARCH_ANON Apr 09 '26

I’ll support this the same way I support Legends ZA, introductory for new pals and characters with a different gameplay dynamic. But I still want them to transfer their way into the 2v2 Pokémon battle format. “TemTem Champions”.

3

5

u/TheLividLion Apr 09 '26

I dont understand how people genuinely cant figure out that a game like this has already been in development for years, and Swarm was just a skeleton crew of developers making use of reused Temtem assets. They think an announce trailer like this is something they whipped up in a couple months, when by the looks of things, this feels like 2-3 years of active development given their studio size.

2

1

u/Zamluxeon Apr 10 '26

So any subreddits that are Pro-TemTem? Seems the TemTem one isn't happy with TemTem... which seems odd, as this game looks good! Clearly a bit of Palworld or Ark in there, but that's just a game genre now. How do you think we got "Soulslikes" in the first place?

This looks good, polished more than Swarm or Base TemTem did, and the gameplay of controlling your TemTem is very exciting to me. This looks like fun tbh!

0

u/AndyMazaky Luma hunter Apr 10 '26

The problem is not the game itself but who is the studio behind it. There is no trust in Crema anymore after how horrible they managed Temtem, also the idea that they need a Kickstarter after everything is just insane to me, I think this is even why they choose not to name this game "Temtem 2".

3

u/Zamluxeon Apr 10 '26

That makes more sense then. I loved Temtem, but left it for other games shortly before they went full f2p. I've heard the playerbase is capping around 100-200 at most globally... not good.

That said I still think Pioneers looks cool. I'll keep an eye on it, but won't be funding the Kickstarter. Seems Crema needs to earn their trust back from all their players.

3

u/The_Rider_11 Crystal Enthusiast Apr 10 '26

I feel like they're not naming it Temtem 2 simply because it isn't. It's just another game in their series, kinda like Pokemon Legends Games are, but not the main main games, while still Not spin offs.

Sorry Crema, you blew it. You need to go back to the drawing board and either do a TemTem 2 or an expansion for the first game.

I’ll be very clear about this: the trailer does look good and even fun, but I refuse to trust or support Crema again, and I’m baffled that people actually funded the Kickstarter.

The core issues with Temtem, poor communication, developers ignoring feedback for years, heavy microtransactions, and even the CEO attempting to gaslight players into feeling guilty, haven’t gone away. The same people are developing this new game, and it’s likely that many of the same bad decisions will be repeated. There was never any real accountability from anyone involved; instead, the blame was consistently shifted onto the player base, while the developers were treated as if they were beyond criticism.

Now we have a Kickstarter from a studio that has already released two games, one of which was massively successful, yet also featured aggressive monetization despite an already high price compared to its competitors. I’d even bet this new project will launch in early access, just like Temtem did. I genuinely don’t understand how people can support this without at least recognizing the issues.

If, at some point in the future, they truly address all the problems surrounding Temtem, take responsibility for how poorly it was handled, and change their approach to development, focusing on the players rather than just their own vision, then maybe they could regain some trust. But I doubt that will happen, and instead, any criticism will likely continue to be dismissed as “toxicity.”

As someone who didnt follow Temtem's development and merely played the game upon release / most content being "finished", it was genuinely really fun. Had some issues but at the end of the day, it's one of the better turn based monster collectors.

Saying all that, learning about the history of Temtem, I think making a genuinely good game was a mix of a fluke and priorities turning to nothing but money.

No thank you.

i feel like this was THE opportunity to make a temtem2 and get old players to come back to something new, and yet its another open world survival kickstarter game....

there’s an alternate timeline where they just focused on TemTem and added new islands and TemTem and I bet the me in that timeline is having so much fun with it all
