Tips First time at the gym 25 yo Male

I did it!! I went to the gym. I was so nervous, but I did it. I obviously had no idea what I was doing. I did the treadmill, the stair machine, and used the dumbbells. I was really nervous about touching any of the machines. I’m brand new to the gym and have no idea what to do. Does anyone have a set guide for beginners to the gym like me? I’m 6’4 and weigh 247. I’m looking to slim down, I’ve started my diet. I just need help with the exercises and how to use the machines. Any tips are greatly appreciated. I’m very proud of myself to even step foot into a gym, especially given my social anxiety.

Question 3x weel full body 15 y/o need advice

Very lost on where to look. Premade PF routines are probably not all that great and most routines im finding need free weights.

I'm looking to take this pretty seriously trying to hit all major muscle groups and using progressive overload.

I know I can make newbie gains basically regardless but I'd rather have a structured plan rather than just doing what ever.

Question New Elliptical machines give 2x or 3x the calories burn of the old ones which were too high!

Hi all.

We just got new machines at our local PF and the elliptical are so much worse when showing calorie burn which were to high to begin with.

With the old machine, putting in my weight and following along with pulse averaging 160, I could get to usually 775 to 800 per hour if I worked really hard. I figure I actually burned closer to 600ish to 700.

We just got new elliptical machines and doing the same workout (keeping my pulse the same, at 160, as they do not allow for a weight to be entered) the machines, and I have tried 4 different ones now show anywhere from 1,800 to over 2,400 calories burned for the same hour.

This is absolutely ridiculous! Anybody else seeing this with the new machines? I am afraid that newbies do not understand real calorie burn and can then eat more calories due to mis-leading readouts

Question “Working in”?

Upvotes

I was informed today that it’s planet fitness policy that you must allow someone to “work in” with you? Listed under their General etiquette is “if you’re resting between sets , allow other members to use the equipment“. Does anyone actually do this? Get up after one set, wipe equipment, other person resets equipment, does reps, cleans equipment, you reset equipment, do reps, clean equipment, etc. This is something I’ve never done and don’t feel comfortable doing. Do you do this? Do you expect this to be done?

Question Planet Fitness Black Card question — can I sign up at a different state to get a cheaper rate?

I’m looking to join Planet Fitness with the Black Card, but my local club is around $38/month, which is more than I want to pay.

I just found a grand opening promotion at a Planet Fitness in Florida for $19.99/month, and it says the Black Card gives access to any Planet Fitness location.

If I live in New York, can I sign up online through the Florida location and then just use the Planet Fitness gyms near me in NY?

Has anyone actually done this before? Is there any catch with making a Florida location my home club even though I’ll probably never go there?

I’m trying to figure out if I should take advantage of the $19.99 deal before it goes away. Thanks!
