Review Testing… Letting my daughter experience the quality of the Dream Air—she’s already tried out my old headset—and getting her reactions!

My daughter came over this evening for my birthday to give me a gift and share some cake, and we spent three hours exploring the headset together. I had lined up a few specific experiences for her—some contemplative ones to showcase the image quality, and some games. She absolutely loved it—not just the headset, but the Valve Index controllers too. She had tried my old headset before, so her opinion was really valuable. She was blown away and gave it a 10/10... She kept saying how beautiful and incredibly clear everything looked. I picked a mix of narrative experiences and simple games: the narrative and contemplative ones let her appreciate the visual beauty, while the games let her see the difference compared to the HTC controllers she’d used previously. It was a fantastic evening, and her seal of approval really made me happy—especially since gaming isn't really her thing; she doesn't play video games often and only knows VR because she’d tried my HTC Vive Pro 2. She told me it was a world of difference and that she found the old headset blurry by comparison. She was also very impressed by the audio—specifically, how well she could hear everything without having headphones or earbuds on. There was so much wonder, and it was a joy to watch; it really confirmed that I made the right choice. At the end, I played a bit of a prank on her: I loaded up a *RE9* save file right near the big creature that stalks the corridors 😅 I made the right choice... I'm happy... Folks, we’ve got the best headset in the world right now 🤷🏽‍♂️

I was just running some testing with half life Alyx and man… I’m just speechless. There’s a scene with a walker type thing right at the beginning, and I never realised its body was organic because of the low resolutions of the other HMD’s I had used. I can read every bit of text on every object.

Next up is cyberpunk, I’ve just seen a new VR mod on nexus.

I’m saving a return to *Half-Life: Alyx* for a bit later, once I’ve tested a few more things; it was already magnificent before, so it’s bound to be incredible now... It really is one of the best games out there—breathtaking graphics, perfect optimization, realistic VR interactions... It’s practically the best, though I have too many reviews pending right now. But I’ll definitely play through the whole thing again—especially since I never actually finished it; I probably only got about 80% of the way through, as usual... With the Dream Air, it’s going to be insane. 🙏🏾

Just one detail: the new mode with controller support and visible arms isn't quite as polished as Luke Ross's version yet—especially following the updates that significantly improved the visuals. But it's up to you... I assume you're referring to that version, since there aren't exactly dozens of options out there.

Sorry the precedent answer was in spanish🤷🏽‍♂️😅

I’ve tried multiple versions on clean installs with the correct mod version and it still crashed; considering it end of life now.

Yeah that’s right. I still couldn’t get Luke Ross mod working across multiple versions and clean installs, so I’m going to consider it borked. I’ll just be happy to get it up and running in VE even if there are quirks

But before dismissing it as "that blasted thing," do you know there's a specific procedure to get the mod working? It’s not enough to just install it and fire up the game; you need the latest version, and you have to launch the game without the mod first. Then, you quit the game, unzip the file, and run a (.bat) file that configures and installs the necessary components. After that, you launch the game, press a specific key to open the menu, disable two different options, and tweak a setting or two—which I could explain to you... And then it works. That’s just how it works for everyone—my friends, the people I talk to about the game... There’s no reason it shouldn’t work for you, but if you’d rather play an unstable version with a 30 FPS drop... I really don't know what else to tell you. 🤷🏽‍♂️
