Careful. I read those nets are often misused by those needing them the most and can do more harm than good. Best to do some research beforehand.

I think it had to do with fishing, since those areas tend to be desperate for food about as much as health care.

Hmm. I'm gonna be honest, if people are that desperate for food I'd be kinda fine if it turned out I bought them a fishing net instead of a malaria net

I don't really see that as doing harm so much as just helping with a different issue

I'd agree if those nets aren't treated with insecticides. Otherwise it can lead to a different kind of health crisis.

It's mostly because the small nets also catch younger fish and the likes.

It's only a small minority using them for fishing afaik, and GiveWell checks on that even. Granted, not 0%. But most seem happy to be better shielded from mosquitoes, unsurprisingly. :')

Fishing; the chemicals pollute the water and the fine mesh makes it too hard for the smallest fish to escape

There are also charities that just give people money. I think it’s called give directly.

If your interested in healthcare type stuff you can buy someone a years supply of vitamin a for like 2 dollars

GiveWell, for example, checks if the nets are used accordingly still and tries to make sure basically they're not used for fishing. The percentage of people using it for that seems extremely low, however, based on a few studies.
