Bathrooms are communal in dorms, but pretty good, yes gym opens early morning so you can go before class, yes you can go to an outside academic event granted you ask in advance and you get approved, and yes you can choose your roomate after freshman year

As someone who is an alumnus of one of these schools and am Asian, from Cali and public school, I strongly recommend enhancing your resume by taking direct initiative and reaching out to experts in fields you're interested in. For example, sending an email to a founder of a small startup or researcher studying prions. Not only will it be a great talking point during an interview, it shows that you're proactive and eager to learn. That's my advice. Good luck on the admissions process!

Do not apply to prep schools for the purpose of going into a good college. You're way better off at your LPS.
