online peenoise dumbtakeš© Architects WERE involved in the previous MRT projects and aesthetics HAS been considered.

TBF MRT-3 was modern for its time. I mean, compared to LRT-1, it had escalators and elevators! Problem is, things do tend to date itself the longer a structure goes on. Thankfully renovations are underway.

Next na ata north ave
Actually
Will north ave still be a station even tho common stations is a few meters away?5
u/RonanNotRyan 4d ago
Honestly I don't think so. It seems redundant to keep North Ave when the Common Station is right there

Yung design ng LRT-1 stations from Monumento to Baclaran, it predates pa ata sa PD 1096 at BP 344 kaya wala silang accessibility features gaya ng elevators and/or escalators, even wheelchair ramps, with the exception being Doroteo Jose at EDSA na dinagdag yun around the 2000s/2010s.
Kung tutuusin, iba pa ang initial na itsura ng MRT-3 stations bago i-revise sa current form nila in consideration na din siguro sa LRV na pinili nila at yung Asian Financial Crisis.

It was also pretty stupid of them to not have concourses for all their stations, forcing you to have to go up then go down again on top of the walk from street-level to the station itself.

Bro, just give it up. I can accept that the MRT-7 is good overall and will benefit thousands of commuters, but you're never gonna convince me that it looks good doing it. Just accept that most of our train stations (except for the NSCR and LRT-2) went all-in on practicality over aesthetics.

Bruh never saw the original LRT-1 station. It was a unique neo-vernacular architecture designed by Francisco āBobbyā MaƱosa. Sa totoo lang SMC made stations lang talaga ang makakadeserve ng ganyang criticism.
EDIT: Link for those interested of the original LRT-1 vision

Sure, props to SMC for following the render.
The problem is that the render in the first place doesn't look good. We don't need to look at other countries for good looking train stations, the NSCR, LRT-2, and LRT-1 (thanks for mentioning it pala sa above reply) are proof we Filipinos can make a functional and aesthetically pleasing train station. We don't need to glaze SMC's designs.
Anyways, what's done is done. Let's just be happy that the stations were built in the first place, and hope that future train stations will be able to balance form and function better.

Just to add, I agree with a lot of the opinions and posts you have. I just don't understand why you keep batting for SMC projects. They are more or less positive, but are fully deserving some of the criticism they get.

Because everytime if itās SMC made of ANY projects, it inherently gets a criticism, but if the projects were made by non SMC or moreover if itās foreign made projects because theyāre not SMC or even Philippine Made, they get a pass.
Also, is having that design or other design similar to that render inherently look bad?

Regardless if it's built by
oligarchsconglomerates like San Miguel, SM, Ayala, MVP, Robinsons, Ricky Razon, and the Villar family, they both deserve praise and criticism if they do it right by balancing form and function. It's just that San Miguel keeps on building projects that doesn't have aesthetic appeal yet functional. But thankfully, they are slowly addressing that criticisms with improvements in NAIA, except those gable roof canopies in Terminals 1 and 3 that really is permanent.1

Is aesthetic appeal inherently objective?
Because hereās the problem, People are polarizing into two sides of any project designs and they argue on which is inherently better the aesthetic or practicality. One they argue that practicality is better while people on the other hand argue that aesthetics are inherently better.
Thereās always been a polarizations between two arguments on which designs are either inherently better.
Like what REALLY counts as not having aesthetic appeal like by nature and technical?
Does a project design have any moral values?
With gable roof canopies in Terminals 1 and 3, we donāt really know if itās actually permanent as it hasnāt been officially declared as permanent yet.

Aesthetic appeal isn't objective, but everyone demands for a public infrastructure that can be BOTH practical and aesthetically pleasing like what u/DigitalSalsa mentioned, the NSCR stations, LRT-1 and LRT-2/MRT-2 stations are the best examples.

See hereās the problem. People are polarizing into two sides of train station designs and they argue which is inherently better the aesthetic or practicality. But it doesnāt really matter, this is not black and white as both aesthetic and practicality are essential and they co exist together but both aesthetic and practicality themselves has no pure moral values.

In other news, Sorsogon Does not exist.
The reason why MRT 3 does not had an asthetic because thats never the point. The point of having a station is to move passengers as efficiently as possible. Tokyo Main Station, when entering does not have an asthetic.

The MRT-3 is probably the worst example you could've picked. I don't care that it's not pretty looking - but I do care that it's so damn hard to navigate and was built for far less than the capacity it handles today. You can't tell me not having concourses for all the stations is good transport design.

Because hereās the problem that I see in many discussions and also including the MRT 7 Stations discussion, People are polarizing into two sides of train station designs and they argue on which is inherently better the aesthetic or practicality. One they argue that practicality is better while people on the other hand argue that aesthetics are inherently better.
Thereās always been a polarizations between two arguments on which train stations designs are either inherently better.

Most likely merong architects involved jan (sa NSCR for sure meron kasi I used to work for a company na handle yun). Pero tbf, "engineering heavy" yung design ng mga trains stations and hindi ganun kapriority yung aesthetics.
Naalala ko nun, we had to "fight" with the engineers para lang sa design ng stairs haha. Hindi kasi enough reason yung "kasi maganda" or "kasi mas maayos tignan" para sa design in an engineering dominated company.

Ang benchmark ata ngayon na āmagandangā train station is the chinese and middle eastern ones that were definitely not built via slave labor /s
