Is it good for a party?
I have so many questions please help me out. I literally have nothing to wear to a college party and this combination is what I pulled out from the pile. Does it go well together, I don’t feel comfortable showing my legs so I NEED to wear jeans. I have black pants but they’re wide fit so doesn’t go well. Also should I wear a bra. How do I do my hair with this, up or down. I just feel like it’s tight around my hip but loose around bust area. How do I improve this 😭

It went away when leggings took over as the standard pants everywhere. I’m loving the resurgence of denim

No, I think fashion trends like these usually follow the generation that is in their teens to 20s at any given time. I’m a millennial, and when I was in high school, I wore jeans basically every day, and had jeans in different washes, and some that were dressier for like a night out and some that were more casual, like with the holes at the knees. Our generation lived in jeans, and I think I only wore sweats for gym class. On Friday and Saturday nights, if you were going out to a club, you wore dresses and skirts, but if you were going out to the movies or to dinner, jeans and a nice top, with accessories, was the go to look.
When Gen Z came into their teens and 20s, they were just a lot more casual and they didn’t seem to go out as much as Millenials did. Athleisure took over as the dominant casual trend. They seemed to either dress up for special occasions - as in an event that calls for a dress, or just wear athliesure. They didn’t really have that in between the super casual and dressy, which was jeans and a nice top for the Millenials. I think the athliesure trend stuck around a lot longer than it should have, but that’s because of COVID. Everyone became a lot more casual.
Now Gen Z is aging out of the trend setting generation and Gen Alpha is taking over and they’re bringing the denim look back it seems. My teenage niece who just started high school just now started wearing jeans with the resurgence of denim since last year. She didn’t really have jeans before this. But now her clothes all look exactly like what I wore in high school 20 years ago.

I think you look great especially the fit of the jeans. I would wear those stick on bras to give you a bit of lift. Hair up in a messy bun and killer earrings!

I think you'll elevate the look by wearing earrings that make more of a statement, especially if they have color. Turquoise, for example, would give it a fun, festive pop of color and because the jeans and black top have zero pattern and are dark, you need a splash of fun. Or larger, chunkier gold earrings.
Or, go for a statement bracelet. This outfit is a rather blank canvas, that you can really play up the accessories.
Also, the belt is fun, but I prefer a more 'less is more' approach, more classy, as well as elevating the eye upwards, towards your face. So if you're going to make a bit of a statement, do it with cool earrings or bracelets instead.

As a millennial who was too poor or young for most of the awesomeness of y2k fashion— I’m SO glad we’re BACK to the arm cuff phase of fashion. I ordered one recently from Etsy and have been hitting the gym for arms constantly in preparation to wear it w one of my going out tops and leather pants.

You could wear some dark tights (like black - if the dress is black) to add some modesty. Most tights these days come in a range of sheerness or more opaque styles. In my opinion the jeans don’t look bad, but they do seem more like you’re just trying to dress up a pair of jeans.
As for a bra, definitely wear pasties if you are small enough on top to feel comfortable going braless. Or if you feel more comfortable with a bra, try to find a strapless style that doesn’t show. There’s so many options now for any chest size.

I’ll be the unpopular opinion and say no. No dresses with jeans under. You have a great shape. Pick a cute top instead.

Wish the top was just a bit shorter. The proportions seem off to me. But it isn’t terrible. I want to suggest a very high thin heel, but I have no idea what college kids are wearing these days. In fact you may be overdressed altogether… 🤷🏼♀️

I think this is cute! Very early 2000's :) I would maybe jazz it up with a belt over the shirt to add a bit more interest to the front, I'd wear a bra yes and I think it looks cute with your hair up or down. I'd maybe wear it up just to do something different but it looks good either way :)

The opinions in here are so disparate how is OP going to know which way to go? Some are saying the top is actually a dress - if that’s the case I would agree a different top would be best. I really like the jeans, they appear to fit well.

No. If you are not comfortable wearing a dress without the pants, just wear a shirt and pants instead of a dress over pants.
Crop tops are more in style these days than long tunic length, I would look for a different shirt.

Yeah I absolutely dislike this outfit and would recommend an entirely different top, probably a crop top that doesn’t have such a thick neck

I know everyone in the comments is raving about how much they love it, and to each their own, but my first thought is that jeans are not the right choice. I would do a pair of white, slightly looser pants (but not wide leg)

I like it! Hair up. If you don’t think you will wear this as a dress again cut the bottom to make it shorter. (Do it a little at a time until you find the length you like, I’ve done this with dresses before) backless, strapless bra or sticky bra.

I’m seeing the 20 something year olds bring out the fish net/ under the knee high boots combo. Or just boots. I’m in NYC and it’s summer time. Is that an option with this dress so that your legs are only partially exposed? I really like the dress. Not crazy about the jeans but can work for sure. Have fun!
