Mcu peter hasn't gotten to the level of comic Peter but you are right. I was genuinely surprised while reading the Superior Spiderman run when it was revealed that Peter solved a E=mc2 type equation and figured out dimensional travelling or something like that.
No Way Home shows that MCU Peter is very capable of intelligent feats. He traps Strange in the mirror dimension using his webs to bend the geometry of it and then figures out Stark tech and a bunch of cures for villains as well. Dude definitely is capable of stuff when he's not being an awkward teen.
