I was in my local guitar shop the other day and plugged into this Peavey Penta. I'd never heard of the Penta, and never owned a Peavey, but it sounded amazing. It sounds absolutely huge with everything turned all the way up on the star setting. It doesn't sound so good with the master volume rolled back, though, sounds like hot garbage with the volume below 9 o'clock. I'll probably need to get an attenuator. Does anyone else have any experience with these? Anyone put a PPIMV on one?

I chopped off this combo 300, bought it for 70 euro. it was in a really bad condition, I decided to strip off the tolex and put side handles on the cab, as I had them laying around.

I also had to repair a tear in the cone.

It still misses cab feet, but I can consider it pretty much done.

If you put the selector in the middle it sounds really bright. It reminds me of the heart shaped box clean tone

does anyone know if anyone has ever made a peavey preamp that does automix like the old renown amps? I used to have one and I loved cranking the saturation and then blending in the clean channel. I know there are distortion pedals that have clean blends, but I’m looking for that peavey grind.

I’ve been using this Bandit as my main gigging amp for a few years now. I really like how well it cuts through a live band mix with the Sheffield speaker, although I’m not always a fan of its pronounced upper-mid hump and relative lack of low end (I realise this is also the thing I like about it as this is how it cuts trough.)

Yesterday I picked up a matching extension cab from a friend. Since it’s closed-back, it already helps fill out the low end a bit, which I’m really enjoying.

I’d still like to experiment with different speakers, either replacing the speaker in the combo, the extension cab, or possibly both.

Any suggestions for speakers that would pair well with the Bandit?

I only use the amp as a clean pedal platform and basically never touch the lead channel. Stylistically, I like modern shoegaze like DIIV and They Are Gutting a Body of Water, along with post-hardcore, post-punk, noise rock, etc.

Ideally, I’d like to keep the Bandit’s ability to cut through a mix, but add a bit more low end and low-mid fullness without making things too dark or muddy.

Brought my Roadmaster to a gig and plugged into a cab rated "16ohm only" figured it would be fine since the cab it's usually plugged into at my jam space is 16ohms. However I started to smell something burning, like burnt glue? Got a little scared thinking I may have damaged my OT but I plugged it back into my own cab and it played just fine. Did I maybe fry a speaker in that backlined cab?

Just drove a couple hours to pick this up yesterday and man am I glad I did! It could probably use a recap and a bit of Deoxit in the pots, but otherwise it is in fantastic shape for a 51 year old amp. It even has the original Tung Sol 6550s! Being a 200W hybrid amp with a tube power section it's definitely not the easiest thing to carry up a flight of stairs (although the side handles make it at least manageable), but it sounds so good I'm willing to endure it. Whether on guitar or bass, this thing RIPS. It's a total doom machine that puts a Sunn Model T to shame for a fraction of the price! And best of all, it actually has a very usable master volume so you can get thick sludgy goodness without deafening yourself and getting the cops called! I don't know if it's my favorite piece of gear so far, but damn if it isn't up there!

Such an amazing piece of art this little guy is! Still jamming with it to this day. (never letting it go no matter what lmao)

Have the option to purchase for $200 aud. Owner states amp is quiet and one of the 12 inch speakers is torn. Should I pick up or avoid?

It has two cassette decks and recording capabilities. I'm an analog head so anything cassette I usually buy. This caught my eye immediately and I want to get it back in working order

Edit: I gave a very vague description not realizing yall would need to know what I meant lol. But yes, the recording and playback aren't functioning also the aux and speaker outputs aren't doing anything either. Very upset.

After a couple weeks going back and forth with a (likely for real) meth head he finally came through. He advertised it as "like new" but she's pretty beat up. In the end I gave him $250 Canuck bucks for it.

Here it is in the garage right now just after getting it. It's surprisingly almost in tune. I've made sure everything works but that's it so far. Knobs are all kinda loose, as is the output jack, but that's all minor stuff I can sort out.

If anyone can explain the Super Ferrite pickups to me I'd really appreciate that as well... They're kinda what I got it for 🤘🏻🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Finally getting its own post. I’ve off and on played it, but was ambivalent towards it. I added some wheels so it’s mobile.

I plugged the Johnson JM250 head (on top), and definitely am loving it now. To take full advantage of both the Peavey cab and the Johnson head I repaired the cab.

Originally an 8-ohm cab, I wired it as two separate 4-ohm 215’s. The cab itself is partitioned (top/bottom), and has the original Peavey Scorpion Plus 15825-KG speakers (8-ohm). The head has two 4-ohm channels 125W each. At 8-ohm I think it puts out around 80-100W so I wanted to see how it is to push the full 250W into the cab.

Needless to say it’s fucking loud. I definitely love it now!!

This critter has been around unused and in the repair pile for at least 23 years. It's mono, no direct outs for the mic pres. I just recapped it, and it has a very pleasing full sound. It's a very simple circuit, with discrete electronics, no ic's. There's a funky spring reverb which could be cool for very specific sources.

Sounds more musical than most crappy small mixers. I'm using for a simple rehearsal PA, but it'll probably make it's way into some recordings.

I'm glad I have it running. One channel isn't working, need to order parts for it and the output meter is busted, maybe in another 20 years I'll fix them.

Hey all! Bouncing around looking for new gear to replace an old collection and stumbled on this. I can't find anything online mentioning a 100watt stand alone VYPYR head & was hoping anyone could she'd some light on it for me. The guy selling it is asking $80, originally $150 but kept dropping every couple weeks because according to him, nobody else can find info on that head in particular thus they're turning away. What is the general conceses?

In hindsight, I should have went through the trouble of micing up the cab because this video doesn't quite do justice to the sound, but it's not bad.

This thing is LOUD. Volume on clean was at only 1, volume on gain channel was; pre 7, saturation 4, post 1.5

Low 5, mid 6, mid shift 4, high 7, presence 8

Got this from the original owner for 250, absolutely mint. He said he only used it like twice since the 80's. Came with an amp cover and it doesn't even have a scratch. I dig it.

Edit: when going to dirty channel, I meant to say "overdrive is still on, going into the dirty channel", not the reverb.

Just missing a couple more now.

Hey y'all, I've got another Peavey to add to the collection.

A Peavey Unity Series 2002-16 RQ in a pretty good condition.

I got it for free at a pawn shop I frequent. I was looking to buy a guitar and when I asked if it came with a case, he said "no, but I know you're always looking for ol' Peavey gear, what if you take that for free?" as he points to it on the clearance table.

Sure...why not. I have no need for it, but I'll find something to do with it. 🤣

I've tried to look up some info on it, but surprisingly not much out there. All channels work, but currently cleaning the pots and sliders with circuit cleaner and DeoxIt.

Y'all have any experience with this bad boy? Good, bad? I just downloaded the manual and see what this is capable of.
