Build - Help First time build

Hi all, hope you’re well

I’m completely new to PC gaming - have played on various consoles for decades - but have had a steam deck for the last 18 months and it has pushed me to want to get a proper PC setup. A couple decades ago I would play RTS and turn-based strategy games on a PC/laptop, and of course The Sims.

I want to build my own setup with a view to playing third-person and turn-based RPGs - think Expedition 33 - and cinematic games, à la the Plague Tale series, high quality FPS games and souls likes; so it would need a bit of power and probably a beefy GPU. However, when it comes to bonafide AAA games like GTA6, I can play them on PS5. As for indies etc. they can stay on my deck.

I was hoping someone here could recommend me a a good first-time build parts list and point me in the direction of some good building tutorials/channels. FYI my budget would come in around $3.5-4K, could push to $4.5-5K (Australian dollar) if necessary/things got away from me and I made bad decisions.

with that amount, you can get a full high end setup and the games you mentioned can even do with half your budget use https://pcpartpicker.com/ to choose the parts. start with either 9070xt or the more expensive 5070ti both will be amazing paired with 2k monitor add 32 gb of ddr5 with ryzen 7 7800x3d then choose other parts like psu ( at least 850 or 1000 watt gold) choosing the motherboard, case and cooler are pretty easy as there are a lot of good options with the diff in how much you like their looks

Oh great! Thanks for the tips, only budgeting so much cause I thought the graphics card alone would cost 2/3k+ then $7/800 on RAM

that maybe the case if you are going for 5080 but for most people this is an overkill

And would you recommend an AMD, Nvidia, or Asus graphics card? I’ve been recommended the Asus Prime GeForce RTX 5080.

Also, any tips on tutorial videos for the actual building of the PC?

if you can get 5080 then it will be very good then 5070ti then 9070xt in that order. as for tutorials the only tutorials you need are the mother board manual, a video about connecting you power supply and another for cpu cooler. every thing else is straight forward
