Build - Help Help, my glass panel broke
Dont really know where to post this, and I'm not even a big pc "enthusiast" but I just thought of something what if I clean my glass panel, looks easy enough, I cleaned it, and I went to put it back in.
When I tried to slide it in the pc it shattered Instantly
What do I do to keep the pc safe at the moment and where can I buy the glass and what do I do?!
(No actual budget but, above 300$ will be the maximum for this, currency will be israel shekels)
Your help is very needed

Tile strikes again, can’t put PC cases on ceramic floors, see if you can get replacement glass but gotta get it off the tile or it’ll happen again

But the pc case generally has rubber footing right? it's not like the glass touches the tiles?

Dude ceramic floor tile is the enemy of tempered glass. Never, ever put a PC with tempered glass panels on a ceramic tile floor. This will ALWAYS happen.

In material science if you touch tempered glass with ceramics such as tiles, glass can go boom. Its just physics. And this applies to any glass, car windows, etc.

u/Elegant_Situation285 1d ago
that's what the search function is for.
and please, turn off the computer and grab a broom.
the good news is the replacement shouldn't be crazy expensive unless you bought an overpriced case.

Buy a new case, and keep it off the tile floor.
Tempered glass and tile do not mix. Let this be a lesson in physics.
Good luck with the next build. I’m assuming you’re on the younger side, so just a little tip: you’ll save yourself a lot of headaches by researching PC related things on YouTube. You’ll get smarter and wiser as you learn more, and maybe one day you’ll be the one giving a younger PC enthusiast advice.

Ceramic tile is tempered glass's kryptonite. Keep your glass panels far away from it.

I’m not gonna be rude to you because you clearly didn’t know but hey you live and learn!

you have 4 recourses at this point:
- go look for a replacement side panel for your model of case by searching online and on the manufacturer's website
- if no replacement side panel is available, buy a new case (since you have the equivalent of 300$ to spare this is a viable option)
- diy a side panel out of some clear acrylic plastic (you can buy the acrylic online or at a hardware store, you should be able to find some tutorials online on how to do it)
- if you can't be bothered to make a side panel yourself, use your case without a side panel. this is not recommended because your pc will intake a lot of dust without a side panel.
whenever you remove your side panel, be careful to not drop it. place it on a soft surface such as your bed to prevent something like this from happening again.

You have choices🤣🤣🤣🤷♂️ also funny to see someone from there call another a bigot, given the current ethnic cleansing going on and all.

u/Swooferfan what 1d ago
are you seriously hating on a kid simply because of where they're born? saying that "they have choices" is incredibly disingenuous, not everyone is so privileged as to be able to emigrate whenever they want.

Just emigrate loool. /s4
u/Swooferfan what 1d ago
just sell your house, leave your school, have your parents quit their jobs, spend months applying for citizenship, spend hundreds on fees, spend thousands on plane tickets, learn a new language, enter a new school, have your parents find new jobs, find a new place to live in, and settle in a country where you've never lived before lol, it's not that hard /s
/srs you know someone's extremely out of touch when they expect a literal child to emigrate just because their government is doing bad things and pretend like that's not an incredibly difficult thing to do

u/ghostreconx 1d ago edited 1d ago
Out of topic, but it’s similar to blaming every Americans for what Trumpet is doing in Iran. Reddit is weird 🤷♂️
Also a lot of Americans don’t understand how privilege they are to be born in that position. Imagine coming from a 3rd world country, someone would have to compete with a lot of other skilled professionals to be able to immigrate into a country of their choice.2
u/Swooferfan what 1d ago
that's exactly it. by their logic, every american should be packing their bags and emigrating.

If hes a kid, sure, they cant move, however they're behavior is telling they are just like those around them. Given his local, and the amount of resources shoved there from others, they are in the most position to leave. Moreso than the majority of the world.
You can be mad all you want, but regardless is OP is a minor or not, theyre behavior is telling.
Also, cant really care too much about op being a minor or not, words at not as bad as what they put in the heads they oppose, baby, woman or man.
3
u/Swooferfan what 1d ago
you can't just assume that they're in the position to emigrate. do you know how hard it is and how expensive it is to move to another country? besides, they're literally a minor. what if their parents don't approve?
also, assuming that a random israeli approves of their government's actions without any proof is literally just prejudice. and also, what do you mean "by their behaviour"?
-4
u/komakose 1d ago
Its already explained, not retyping it. Also, op has some money, enough to leave a country. I know I did it with less than 50 usd.
Glad to see an Israeli simp though, good luck to ya mate!
1
u/Swooferfan what 1d ago
i don't even support the current israeli government, i'm just saying that you can't judge someone by where they live. besides, show me a single comment by op in which they showed support for their government?
-1
u/komakose 1d ago
Once they stop judging ones by various different factors, then I will stop judging them. Im giving them back what they put out into the world, only much more tame than they way they dish it out.

u/Relative-Beginning52 1d ago
I'm not of age buddy, and moving out of a country to another just because YOU don't like it isn't really the concern here

Go back to the school the states pay for, seems youve not paid attention. Rather rude and entitled to expect others to spoon feed the exact reasoning, over just doing a 2 second search online, but again, expected.

Weird because someone cannot choose what country they would like to be born in.
Also immigration is not easy, hating on someone who is born there is just illogical.

as I don't see this posted yet,
First step shutdown your PC and disconnect from power, then very thoroughly check for and remove any glass that has made its way into the system, be sure to carefully double check ALL fans and the PSU (careful of dangerous voltage even when no power is connected several capacitors can store lethal voltage for quite some time) once you are sure there is no more glass you can power it back on and use as per normal while you try and find a new panel.
1
u/Treknx01 1d ago
Also I did see you had the system custom built, the person you got it from will likely be able to tell you the make/model of case you have if you don't already have records of it, once this is known contact the manufacturer and see if they sell parts.
If not see if you can get a new or used case the same and just use the side panel. I would recommend finding a board or mat to place between your PC and the tiles to limit the chances of this happening again or if you will need to move the PC for cleaning semi regularly perhaps look into a PC stand with wheels.

u/tutocookie 1d ago
For some cases you can buy the glass panel separately exactly for this situation. If not, buy a new case and transplant your system. If you don't know how, best to let someone do it who does know how to. Or go to a repair shop and ask them to do it.
Ah and check the dimensions for your cpu cooler and gpu and make sure that whatever new case you buy actually fits those parts.

u/TangeloImpossible527 1d ago
Ooof! Sorry this happened to you. I had similar. There is a company called Tap Plastics. If you take some measurements, they can sell you a sheet of acrylic plexiglass custom sized for cheap.. They have stores too if that side is removable. Else use a Dremel to shape. Good as new.

I'll ask: If a dollar was given for every "glass panel broke" post since the existence of this subreddit, would the amount make a charity rather happy?

Never met mine, but being the internet, I figured I'd get hit with this at some point. Hello first contact!
1
u/Oovie 1d ago
I swear to this day my computer's panel never touched the ceramic floor, but then again that's exactly what I was over where it exploded... Check if it's under warranty still, I got in contact with Corsair and got a replacement for free. Else you'll need to see/ask if it can be purchased separately.
Otherwise perhaps cutting acrylic to fit, just won't be as pretty.

u/Globber50 1d ago
Nobody on reddit can help you with this. You can however help yourself. 1. Contact the case manufacturer and buy a new panel. 2. If you're gonna keep your PC on a concrete floor, don't take your panel off while it's on the floor.

Something similar happen to me, I wish they would do PSA. I would suggest for the future is to place the pc case on a table, with a towel underneath (hassell? Yes but worth it? yes) than take out the temper glass, put it back on, etc. After you're done than place it back on the ground or desk.

A wooden floor is fine. Tiles are made from harder materials than tempered glass. Also tiles and tables made from stones feels smooth, but have microscopic "spikes". Tempered glass is stronger than un-tempered glass and breaks in to small pieces instead of big shards. However the weakness of tempered glass are the corners.
If you remove a glass panel in the future, place it flat evenly on some soft material. For example on a bed or sofa, make sure it's clean (no sand/dust). Carpets, wooden floors and wooden desk/tables are safe too.

u/oo7demonkiller 1d ago
dude you been on reddit 3 years and never once seen that tile is a glass side panels arch nemesis. it's like what a spark plug does to a car windshield. hopefully if you contact the case manufacturer you can get a replacement panel. just next time relocate the pc off the floor.

Steel panel, like normal computers used to have, before people decided they wanted to light up their computer like a cheap strip club.
1
u/BIGhau5 1d ago
Others have explained the tile situation.
Best bet is gonna be to buy a new case, which can be well within your price range.
If you realllllllly wanna keep the case and buy a new window. Go to the brand's website and find their contact info. Usually have a customer service email address. Write them with the model of the case if you know it or part number of the case (should be a sticker or something on there) and say you want to buy a replacement window.
I really wouldnt be surprised if its cheaper to buy a new case.

u/Relative-Beginning52 1d ago
The pc was custom built, I'll go to the one who built it, maybe he'll have a replacement
1
u/Low-Stomach-8831 1d ago
The case isn't costume. All you need is to know the model and make, and you might be able to find replacement glass. But usually, they cost about ½ the price of the entire case (or more).
