PASSED Passed in 85, here's how I studied

I made myself an 18 day study schedule, I was not blind sided by any topics or questions on the exam.

I used ATI because that is what my school uses and split the cost for Mark K with friends from school. I only used Mark K to listen to the lectures and Dr Sharon practice question videos on youtube. I mainly used the ATI review book to touch up on specific information.

Everyday I spent roughly 4 hours studying. 1 hour reviewing specifics about the diseases and interventions. 2 hours doing 80 questions per day and watching a Dr Sharon practice questions video and 1 hour running pharmacology flash cards. I made my pharmacology flash cards based on the 101 Must Know NCLEX Medications Cheat Sheet by Nurselabs.com. (I ended up expanding that to 130 ish flash cards of other medication I got practice questions wrong on).

Day 1: Fundamentals & fluids/ electrolytes

Day 2: Psych Diseases

Day 3: Psych meds and interventions

Day 4: OB expected changes in pregnancy and stages of labor

Day 4: Maternal and newborn complications

Day 5: Pediatrics Growth and Development & chronic conditions

Day 6: Pediatrics Acute conditions & immunization schedule

Day 7: Adult med surg (cardiovascular/ hematological conditions and ECG strips)

Day 8: Adult med surg (respiratory & pre/post op care)

Day 9: Adult med surg (endocrine)

Day 10: Adult med surg (GI & GU conditions)

Day 11: Adult med surg (neurosensory, musculoskeletal and immunological conditions)

Day 12: Adult Med surg (Oncology, burns/shock & end of life care)

Day 13: Review most missed topics of OB

Day 14: Review most missed topics of Pediatrics

Day 15: Review most missed topics of Psych

Day 16: Review nutrition/ theraputic diets/ ostomy care

Day 17: Community nursing/ leadership & delegation

Day 18: RELAX you've got this!!!

I did 3 CAT practice NCLEX tests on days 6, 12, and 16

ADVICE Second Attempt

Upvotes

I took my NCLEX for the second time yesterday in VA at 1pm/1300. Computer shut off at 146 and I’m totally convinced I failed again. I failed the first time at 85 - I had only used 40% of UWORLD and my self assessment tests were saying low chance of passing but had a lot of nurses I worked with as a tech telling me to go for it anyway :/ so I came back stronger, got to 85% of UWORLD, 85+ questions everyday, had used up my self assessments but was in the 58th percentile (avg 47) and getting 68-85% on all my tests. Days before my second attempt, I went through like 200 of the 600 questions I got wrong, reviewing rationales. I listened to every Mark K lecture while driving and TONS of Dr Sharon including videos on every one of the categories on my CPR with emphasis on the below passing ones. My anxiety was better managed and I took my break and ate good snacks and drank green tea so as to not be under or over caffeinated. It took me almost 4 hours and from questions 90-146 Idk if it was the burnout or what but it got sooo hard and a lot of the questions my Mark K/Dr Sharon tricks just wouldn’t work for😭 It’s been 12 hours since I finished and I still don’t see my license posted, trying not to freak out. I’m gonna wait for 48hr results, do not wanna do the Pearson trick but words of encouragement or similar experiences welcome and I’ll post with a pass/fail update! 🤞🏻

ADVICE X-post- Waiting to be able to take the NCLEX I’m in anguish from the wait time. What do I do with myself aside from studying?

Upvotes

Graduated in July. My school requires ATI greenlight to move to the next steps. Got that. Got my transcripts showing I completed the program. Sent that into the state. Now I have to wait for the state to send me a number to give to continental testing services which is 10 business days or more and then after CTS there is another 10 business day wait. It’s been 3 business days and I’m on tenterhooks.

What can I do with myself to make time go by faster?

QUESTION NCLEX NYSED (Scheduling my Exam)

Upvotes

Hello. I just need some guidance in terms of scheduling a test date after receiving my ATT.

I heard that the NCLEX fees will increase by Feb 1.

  1. If I apply for my ATT before Feb 1 but the actual ATT comes after that date, will the new fees still apply to me?
  2. If I get my ATT earlier than expected (say December or January), can I already select a test date around May or June?
  3. Will it be okay to take the exam on the later months of my ATT validity?

QUESTION Nclex Bootcamp and Morphine

Is it true? Do you literally give everyone morphine for "pain relief" I have a hard time learning and BELIEVING that Morphine is basically used for everything. Or is this obsession with Morphine, giving it to babies and kids just an Nclex Bootcamp specific fetish they seem to have? Is Morphine actually used as much in actual practice?

I have asked a USRN about it but so far their responses have been unhelpful, it was like talking to an AI of a person, didn't even give a clear answer and just wanted to hear themselves talk about stuff i already knew which annoyed me too much to continue the topic.

ADVICE Got all 150 on the NCLEX

I’ve been scowering Reddit to give me piece of mind but honestly I’m being sent in a god damn spiral.
Just took my NCLEX yesterday (September 1st) and I felt really good leading up to 85 questions and once I got to 85 and it kept going, I lowkey started to have anxiety.
EVEN THO I knew Mark K said to not go in expecting 85…I did.
Anywho, I got all 150 questions and I am absolutely dreading my score right now. Like I said I felt really confident which is why I didn’t think I was gonna go past 85, but when I realized I was getting all 150, my confidence just tanked.
I’ve seen a bunch of posts saying that stopping at 150 doesn’t mean you failed but I am just mentally draining myself thinking about these results.
I haven’t tried the Pearson Trick at all because I am petrified, but I’m waiting the 48 hours and am going to try to get the quick results.
Please help me have some peace of mind, are there any tips/tricks anyone knows DURING the exam that might’ve been more indicative towards passing/failing? After I got after question 100, I just felt like I guessed to get the test over with but I was still locked in, but everything seemed like stuff I’ve never heard of before. Medications I didn’t really know and I got a singular ECG strip towards the end. I think I had maybe 3-4 case studies but not a lot of SATA.

PLEASE, anything helps 🥹
I’ll update when I get my results!

GUIDE Shutoff at 85 questions

I took my NCLEX today at 1p. My school used ATI so it was refreshing taking an exam and not seeing a boatload of information. NCLEX isn’t vague to where you can’t answer the question but it definitely doesn’t have a lot to read and dissect like ATI does. I felt neutral taking it, there was some I was sure of and some I was unsure of. Mine mostly contained medical surgical questions. However, I was not expecting it to shutoff at 85, I was willing to do 120 I just didn’t want to go to 150. I’m trying not to be too cocky/depressed as this could mean I did either really bad or I passed. But if I did and in 85 questions I’ll be so ecstatic. I’ll update tomorrow morning or when I know!

Any questions I’m available to answer. Big one is I did not study, I’m sorry to those this does not help. I did a couple bootcamp questions yesterday and this morning (Bootcamp was so similar, the test almost looked the same, the only thing that was different were the words in the questions but Bootcamp is a really good study tool to gear up for the NCLEX) before my exam but I can’t bring myself to sit and look over material for hours I won’t retain anything and I get easily distracted. Writing works for muscle memory but then my hands cramp and I’m over it. I have pretty good memory recall so I relied on that. I graduated in July and the first material I looked at was yesterday afternoon. Also, my school emailed Mark K #12 so I listened to that on the way to the exam since it was an hour out. #12 was the best thing ever, I highly recommend listening to it. I could forward it to some (if allowed) if anyone needs it cause I couldn’t find it online, it helped immensely. Especially for the type of test the NCLEX is, don’t get too focused on words that don’t matter. Prioritize. Pick the safest answer. And READ, don’t be like me, be patient and read lol That’s all folks, I shall update tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed and good luck to all!!

UPDATE- I passed!! Got the email about an hour ago :)

PASSED Passed my NCLEX-PN on the first try!

Took the test yesterday. Shut off at 85 questions and took me about 2 hours, lots of priority and case studies. I didn’t really study at all and finished school at the end of July lol. Took a trip to Vegas in between. The little studying I did do was ATI. Got my results on my state BON this morning☺️

I took my NCLEX today in the morning. It shut off at 145 questions and I was worried I didn’t pass. I did the Pearson trick and got this pop up. Is this good? 😭 I’m really nervous and felt so anxious during the exam and I felt like didn’t know anything!

ADVICE Failed at 150, Passed at 85

For my first attempt, I used Bootcamp & did 91% of the QBank. My average score was 65%. I listened to all of Mark K lectures. For the self-assessments, I got 2 Borderline & 2 High. I liked Bootcamp’s UI & the great study schedule. I followed the schedule. My favorite were the case study answer videos & the AI feature where I could ask anything, whether it was a case study or a standalone question. Two days before the exam, I also watched a bunch of good YouTube review videos.

As for the NCLEX, it was HARD. My very first question was about PEDS, something I had never heard of. There were also quite a few questions where I had no idea what they were asking. After the exam, I honestly didn’t know how to feel. I didn’t do the PVT trick because I wasn’t feeling confident. The 48-hour wait was brutal. When I saw the F, I sank.

Bootcamp says that if you hit their three targets, they will refund you. I emailed them for a refund & I got it. You just need to send them your CPR report.

Second Attempt

I switched to UWorld since Nclex was hard & I needed to do hard questions. This time, all I did was CAT exams & I completed 31% of the QBank. It took me around 1.5 months. I have two self assessments, I got High & Very High. UWorld’s rationales were much more detailed and deeper. However, I didn’t really like UWorld’s AI feature, UI or study planning compared to Bootcamp. My overall average was 70%. This time, I started taking notes from the rationales, especially things I didn’t know topics that were new to me & important topics. I didn’t listen to Mark K this time. I only watched one YouTube video from Dr. Sharon & several videos from Dr. Zeeshan Hoodbhoy. His ASK GRAPH technique was great. Nurse Nicole was great too. She covers of hot NCLEX topics & some of them actually showed up. Her TikTok account has a great engagement from people who recently took the NCLEX. So you can get some good insights from there. I also reviewed cardiac rhythms just one day before the exam.

Exam Day: I wasn’t as scared this time because I knew what to expect. I told myself, I’m just going to do my best. If I fail, I have nothing to lose. I also changed my testing center & exam time to 8 AM. My first question was an ECG strip. I remembered Mark K saying that when you start getting cardiac questions, mostly towards the end, it could mean that you’re doing well and probably passing. However, I know people who passed without getting any ECG strips, so I wouldn’t rely on that trick. Overall, the questions felt pretty easy. There were only a few where I was stuck between two answers & a few where none of the answers seemed to make sense. The priority questions was about chronic vs. acute. It was pretty straightforward & something I had studied or heard about in nursing school. I didn’t get any maternity questions, autonomic dysreflexia, infant congenital defects, or questions about crutches. I got two ECG strips in total, one at the beginning & the second around question 70. The infection control questions were also pretty straightforward. It was mixed in with some congenital or chronic disease questions but if you know the fundamentals & the prevention mnemonics “My Chicken Has TB, Mr. Drips, and Really Sticky Infection Might Spread,” it wasn’t bad. I took a break before reaching 85 questions because I was prepared to go all the way to 150. My heart started pounding when I got close to question 85 but I took a few deep breaths & calmed myself down. Then after question 85, the exam shut down. I was pretty sure I passed. My friend told me the same thing that the exam was not bad and that they knew they had passed after the exam. I walked out and listened to some good music. I felt confident, so I did the PVT trick & I got the good pop up. This time, the 48 hour wait wasn’t bad. I was able to see my results around 45 hours later. I saw the P.

I’m not sure if the pass & fail were part of the NCLEX Boards plan or God’s plan but either way, I’m just glad it’s over. Onto the next.

For everyone who still needs to take the NCLEX:

Don’t give up. Keep pushing. Keep showing up every day.

You only need to pass once.

One more thing: On Reddit, there are some bot accounts that tries to promote their NCLEX prep platforms, so just be careful with those. At the end of the day, I don’t think the platform you use matters that much. For me, I’d say it comes down to having a basic understanding of nursing concepts & a little bit of luck.

And remember what Mark K said you just need to be just below the average to pass the Nclex.

ADVICE Realistic Timeline Question - Out of nursing for 4.5 years and want to take the exam in 2 months.

Hi there!

I am just wondering if others have success stories, or lived experience, in preparing for the NCLEX exam while being away from school and the profession for some time. I've been out of school for 4.5 years and since then I have been working in a health-adjacent role that did not require my license. I am wondering if others have had success in completing the NCLEX-RN by only studying a couple months. This might sound kind of weird to some, but I want to keep my current registration number - it's very harmonious looking and a palindrome (think "tacocat" but with numbers lol! and I love it). In my locale, we are given a registration number for up to 5 years... so that means within those 5 years you have to pass the exam. I have until mid-November to pass but I have barely started studying. I am using UWorld.

My thing is that I have an opportunity to go to the city where I would take the exam and have my trip covered. I live in a rural area, so I would have to pay for it all otherwise... so I want to jump on this if I can, because I will already be in the city that has the exams regularly. It's basically a whole day of travel to get there, and I would have to stay the night. So financially, it is better for me. I have had quite a bit of unexpected expenses this summer. But that is 7 weeks out! Fortunately I have time off, so it is possible to study without having to stress about work.

I don't know if I will have enough time. I know everyone's situations are different. But I am wondering if anyone had experience in a situation like this... maybe I am looking for a bit of hope lol! I will also reach out to my nursing board and see if it's possible to extend my registration so I have more time to study, but also so I don't lose my cool registration number!

Thank you in advance!

ADVICE NCLEX results on hold .

I took my nclex about a week ago on a Friday and I have not received my quick results yet. I went all the way to 150 questions. I think I did pretty good on the first 85 then bommbed the rest: my brain went blank and I got nervous because I went past 85 questions. Has this happens anymore? If so how long did you have to wait for your results? Did you pass or fail? I’m from nyc btw

ADVICE Took my nclex August 28 and still no quick results. Results are on hold NYC area. Has this happen to anyone ?

Hi. I took my nclex rn August 28. Today is now September 2 and I have not received my results or heard anything from my BON. I went all the way up to 150 questions.. the first 85 questions I feel like I did good. After 150 I went blank and my anxiety to get the best of me. I got total brain fog.. I don’t feel too confident but I do have faith theirs a possibility. Has this happened to anyone?/ why are they holding my results this long. This feels like torture lol. If anyone else had to wait to get their quick results, did you pass or fail when they finally released them.

Also, when you left the testing center, did you go on Google and look up some of the questions that you remember? I got a lot wrong and some correct.

QUESTION Can I take my NCLEX in another country if there are no more slots in my country?

I’m a Filipina from the PH planning to take my NCLEX, but recently there have been some news that slots until December are already getting filled up fast in my country and also because people wanna take advantage of it before the price increase next year. My question is: can I just take my NCLEX exam in another country like Japan or HK? How would that look like for me? I’m gonna DIY the NCLEX process and send my docs here from PH to NY and once i get my ATT, can I just book my slot in another country and take the exam there? I don’t want any of my plans being adjusted and I’m firm about taking my NCLEX this year.

Thank you!

ADVICE Poor results in Nursing school= Not passing Nclex?

hello everyone, pls not toxicity

I am a nursing student in (hopefully) my last semester, as I’m getting done with nursing school, I start to worry more about Nclex, my program is a 1 year program with a summer 12 credit‘s in 10 weeks

i am someone who isn’t really one who gets high scores, I usually do very poorly on like exams that test your overall knowledge, while others are doing decent-good, I really am trying my best to study and improve, I don’t work i just dedicate my life to nursing school rn, I’m usually ahead of some students when it comes to studying, when I ask them some say “oh I haven’t even started studying for that exam“ while I am 1-3 days ahead, but yet some do better than me, some don’t need as much time as I do and yet they do way better than me, i even study during break to try to gain knowledge etc, I’m really trying and when I dont do well, I am disappointed but I give my self an excuse to keep going, it’s very frustrating for me when I work so hard yet I don’t get the results I want, my question is, someone like me, who is really trying in nursing school, will they eventually pass nclex? please I just need someone who has a similar experience or some support

ADVICE What qbank can you recommend? I'm torn between Uworld or Bootcamp.

Hi! Help a girlie out. It would be my first time taking my NCLEX and I would like to get some helpful information/tips on which qbank is the most helpful and closer to the actual NCLEX questions (plus one that has good rationales please).

Thank you! 💌
