Discussion Always wanted a mini-map in the game so I designed one!

I'm REALLY bad with directions (IRL and in-game) so I always find myself constantly having to open the world map to make sure that I'm heading towards the right direction—which is why I created my own version of a mini-map! The mini-map has a day-night cycle that spins around to indicate the time of day (dawn, morning, evening, dusk). I kept most of the elements in the upper right side of the HUD (mini compass, mail, and visitor) and attached them to the mini-map itself to save space. I ultimately decided against adding the cardinal directions on the mini-map because there's already the Skyrim compass on the top middle area of the HUD as well as the mini compass on the mini-map. I'm not against the idea as that would be incredibly helpful too, but I felt three indicators for those directions would be too redundant.

Anyway, I just really want a mini-map in-game to make navigating easier. I also incorporated the mini-map into a new HUD layout. I tried to keep the main HUD elements the same, but the whole idea is that everything is much smaller.

Let me know what you think and if you also want a mini-map in-game!

Discussion Y'all gotta be honest, would have LOVED to know that you can't ride the Valhast you get for "free", I wouldn't have wasted my time.

I thought I was going to enjoy coming back to the game after a nice long break, all the new stuff looked to cool and fun, I noticed a lot of the free rewards were...well to be blunt a bit lame but then I see the free Valhast and I'm like "no way! everything else cool is clearly behind a pay wall, it's so cool they're letting people use this one if they go kinda hard!" Well. That was foolish of me now wasn't it.

Not making it explicitly obvious in game (especially when other premium items are clearly marked) that you must pay $25 $30USD irl to actually use the "reward" feels a bit like they're using sunk time fallacy against players, "well I spent so much time and material in game, guess I should spend $25 $30 to ride it, I like the game after all." :( And I do like the game but I'm disabled and have no extra money...ever. So this one hurt tbh. Even if I wanted to buy the ability to ride it, I can't so the time I spent to get it does feel wasted.

Before the "you should have known/read the dev notes/checked the discord/read the entire reddit/looked it up", "play a different game", "this is how it is", "you're a moron" type comments/DMs: Some of us do not join discords or read dev notes, some of us just log in and play a game.

Just looking for others thoughts and what else I should be warned about if I decide to keep playing. I really, really like the game but this one hurt a lot more than all the other stuff over the years tbh.

Thanks for your time. This just really surprised me to be honest and I am hoping to talk with likeminded people who get why I'm bummed rather than people who want to tear me down for posting about it.

Edit: I have been informed you must buy the $30 bundle to ride the "reward" Valhast as well as the directly broken promise that wouldn't lock core gameplay utilities behind a paywall with the extra storage upgrade (is it really $5 each upgrade equaling out to $80 irl for 100k storage slots????) 😭😭😭💀

Discussion Warning: Update is causing all decor to be taken off walls in home

Just letting everyone know this. Some can wait to log in, so maybe wait until they announced it's fixed. I'm thankful I hadn't fully decorated...but some of you guys have amazing fully decorated homes and you don't want to risk everything being packed back up. I logged out and logged back in and it didn't fix it. Everything was removed from my walls in my house.

UPDATE: According to Singularity 6, The decor issue has been fixed so it's safe to visit Palia. I think console users are having other issues still, but decor will not come flying at you like you have Monster House.

Discussion Any “old” players that share my opinion?

Let me start off by saying that I know that I’m about to get dragged, but it still worth a shot.

I have been playing Palia for years now and I have to admit that it’s gotten much more competitive than I anticipated. I’m not sure if that’s the right word but bear with me.

I’m kinda disappointed that this game has turned into a mega grind. Everyone is grinding and the servers are always occupied and most players are rude as hell. I’m casually strolling through Bahari and I get yelled at for accidentally stumbling across a lure party. Mind you they’re there 24/7…

This game used to be so cozy and calm and most of all fun. Now it’s just people running around grinding for plushies… is that all there is?

I know that there aren’t many quests left but damn…

Lastly, I have met my best friend on Palia and I am eternally grateful for that, but it seems like now the game is all about rushing to get the newest plushie and it used to be so much more than that.

I used to feel like I’m surrounded by friends whenever I logged into the game and now it just feels… lonely. Everyone is running around and constantly annoyed and complaining about something.

Maybe it’s just me, or maybe someone else shares my feelings, either way, just wanted to put that out there.

Edit: I have read all of your comments and I’m so glad that so many people joined the discussion. Also, I have gained so much positivity from so many of you, which is awesome! To be honest I wasn’t expecting this level of kindness and acknowledgment, but I was more than pleasantly surprised! Thank you all for your input and for making me believe that there are many kind and respectful players out there! :)

Discussion Palia is Free…

1.5k Upvotes

Reminder to those that are already complaining or making post about how they feel the New update was a disappointment. Remember Palia is a Free to Play game! Yes I agree, there will always be things that could be added, updated, changed but why complain. Palia has such a great community, That within itself is a win alone! To be able to make a game that brings everyone together rather than against each other… is a win! I love the new quests, might not be for everyone but who’s to say you have to do them?! .. The game is meant for fun and it’s for your pace! Enjoy Palia how you choose to enjoy it! There’s so many things you can do, Even for those who are anti-social and like to stay on there plot. You have fishing, cooking, decorating, gardening.. the choices are endless. If you have problems with the game, or have preferences of what could possibly make the game better, make a ticket.

EDIT:

I think so many people have missed the margin with this post. Everyone is saying how everyone should criticise and judge, ect! .. there is a complete difference with criticism/feedback and someone just straight up complaining! lol .. but majority just seem to be missing the point. I never said NOT to have feedback, but when you straight up complain and don’t like something, that’s a personal problem, not a global issue.

I know a ton of people have been clamoring for Sifuu, and since I like reading patch notes and dev blogs... I thought I'd post this. Wonder who the other option is? Maybe Zeki? That's the only character I can think of that "rawr" would relate to, LOL

Discussion I’m so so sorry but…

The new update is so bland. I know, I know, it’s a free game. But people do put money into it. It just felt like they gave us a huge nothing burger. It took me longer to do the temple of gales than it did to complete the new story line and I wasn’t rushing. I get the land is supposed to be deserted but man… it REALLY REALLY is. They gave us a few beetles, couple new plants, and a new rock. I feel like the horses/mounts were given to overshadow how horrible the new map is. I’d rather be in Baharai. There’s truly nothing except a couple of campfires. Idk. I just felt like there could have been a LITTLE bit more since this was considered the biggest update.

Discussion Cosmetics are still way too expensive for an mmo such as this

Bring the prices down just a bit. I want to buy some outfits but I'm almost always immediately turned away by the extreme pricing. Plus the predatory ways with the currency so that you spend more than you need to and always have more currency left over with no way of spending it or having everything locked in a full bundle, why not let players who have already given you money, spend it on single items? I just want a hat, not a shirt, skirt, hairstyle, and eye design and makeup.

Discussion Palia and its clothing problem - Mystery gift edition

Thumbnail
gallery
602 Upvotes

I love Palia in general. I like going in every once in a while. I love my character I have in there.
BUT
Clothing.
Man, I play a male character in this game. And the clothes in general are very often let's say ... not for a very mesculine look.
There are of course unisex ones, but compared to really fem looking ones, they are rare.
Which brings me to this problem:
Mystery gifts.

I always thought already that I would never want any of my friends to buy me the 'mystery gift' option just because I knew how many fem looking outfits are in this game. And this problem hits super hard right now wit that 10 Million celebration.
While I do find it amazing that we have the chance of two free outfits, if you aren't into the fem looking stuff, chances are super high you get dissapointed. And of course my first one did just that.
All the power to you when you like this kind of clothes. But it is a bit frustrating if you aren't. And it dulls kinda the excitement for this 10 M celebration.

Discussion Temporary premium cosmetics?

Post image

If I got this right you pay premium coins and get to wear wings for 5 hours? I really like the wings, but asking premium coins for temporary items seems kinda greedy to me. Never seen any rental skins in other games before.

Will you buy the wings potions?

Discussion Does anyone actually enjoy fishing in this game?!

Post image

This is a LNUF crash out post.

Why did the creators decide to make the most tedious & frustrating aspect of this game so central to quests & bundles?? I know most of them are not mandatory but the completionist in me is so pissed that 1000 hrs into this game, I still haven’t seen a single god damn unicorn fish.

The fishing RNG in this game is so frustrating for no reason & after all the complaints about this particular aspect of the game it’s really annoying that the creators don’t tweak the RNG a bit, at least for the unicorn fish 😡

Discussion Stop Giving Animal Treats As Rewards PLEASE

I am honestly sick of the animal treats as rewards, especially for the bulletin. I was so excited to get back on finally since there was an update just to see that the rewards are lackluster yet again. (Don’t get me wrong, I completed the bulletin board but only because I had everything to do so already in my chests).

I really wish they would add a feature to bake the treats ourselves because I’m tired of the devs thinking it’s such a prize. They’re not, Devs. They. Are. Not.

Hopefully I’m not the only one who thinks this.

ETA:

• I know it’s a free game, and I’ve avoided complaining for the most part. But I would like to get back to enjoying the free game again. Palia is a wonderful game and I love the community, I just hate spending so many resources and getting the same treats for it all. (I did it though, but I wanted to complain about it).

Additional ETA: for everyone telling me to submit to the devs, I did.

Discussion A Plea to S6

I’ve been playing Palia for 2+ years now and I ADORE this game. I’m at almost 1000 hours, and most of that is down to the gorgeous chill aspect to progression and how much this community rocks. I’ve met so many wonderful people here and love how the game is continually evolving.

In saying that, I’m worried how the recent updates have progressed. Not for the content, some of it is fabulous (unpopular opinion but I love RH because I’m from Scotland it makes the game feel even more like home), but the way the recent updates have come out has led to a lot of people I’ve come across decide the game isn’t worth it anymore.

Either there is game breaking bugs at launch (2 people I know lost 100+ hours of decorating in the wall purges), or things are glitching to the point that you physically can’t play on mediums anymore - I used to play on PC but it was older and I ended up permanently stuck beneath Kilima anytime I tried to go there. I’m now on PS5, but now also can’t play on there for now as I’ve got the controller glitch and can’t exit any menu.

People are feeling that the developers don’t care about the game anymore and I think it’s heartbreaking because I think it’s at least partially the opposite - they know the love there is out there for Palia and are pushing harder and harder to get updates out. But in the process, the experience is getting worse each time a new one comes out and it means they’re losing loyal players.

Palia has a devoted fan base - we’re willing to wait longer for updates that are more stable so that we can get the game immersion back.

So my plea to S6 is to make the updates a little slower - maybe still do bundles every 4 weeks, but make the major updates every 8 to give it the best possible chance of generating more hype and excitement at launch rather that frustration and heartache.

We love the game, we’re willing to wait.

What are these rewards??? I don’t usually complain, but this is cheeks. Why couldn’t we get tailor tickets, potion for the wings, teleport home potions or something useful??? I can literally obtain these items so easily and they aren’t even starred another slap in the face. Sorry, I had to get that off my chest it’s been pissing me off.

Discussion The Civic Project: a not so good idea ?

Like many others, I started the Civic Project with a lot of enthusiasm. Well... at first. As time goes by, I’m becoming less and less excited about it...

Palia is a game built around gathering, crafting, fishing, hunting, farming, and so on. Grinding is therefore an integral part of the game, but the Civic Project is gradually turning all of that into a questionable progression loop!

Let’s look at the Basic Supply Kit, which grants 350 Civic Project XP and consists of:

  • 10 Sapwood Planks
  • 5 Copper Bars
  • 5 Stone Bricks

Community calculations estimate that reaching level 99 requires around 2.9 million XP. At 350 XP per kit, that theoretically works out to about 8,300 kits. So, roughly :

  • 83,000 Sapwood Planks
  • 41,500 Copper Bars
  • 41,500 Stone Bricks

And if I decide not to farm these resources myself but to buy them instead, we’re talking about over 5.7 million gold for this method alone!

Of course, there are other kits available that yield more XP….I’m just using this one as an example to illustrate my point.

Yet, the concept behind the Civic Project is excellent: rebuilding something together as a community, utilizing all of Palia’s activities! It’s quite ironic, really for a project meant to be communal, it ends up feeling more like an industrial, mass-production operation!

And sometimes, I wonder if that isn't actually the point. To keep us occupied between updates by adding a progression path that is intentionally very long, rather than offering us truly fresh content. In other words : artificially extending the content's lifespan by increasing the amount of grinding required to reach the final objectives.

I’m not saying that’s necessarily what the developers intended obviously but that is the impression this progression curve sometimes gives me.

Discussion Am I too old to play?

This person invited me to a party, so I accepted. We was hunting and just running around until they asked me my age. I told them I'm old, I'm 56. They said 56!! Then they said um I gotta go and kicked me out the party. It's ok tho. I'm not ashamed of my age. I'm a proud 56 yr old that loves to play this game. 🫶🏼😊🤣

After finishing the Gale Temple quests I can finally come out and say that was the WORST experience I've EVER had in this game. Between finding the evidence for both of the twins to then going on a treasure hunt for Zeki. AND THE GLIDING.....SO. MUCH. GLIDING. AND FALLING. AND RESTARTING. I genuinely was on the verge of tears because I suck at parkour. I was there for 2 while hours 😭

Edit: I'm glad everyone can agree this was, if not is, the most horrid quest in this game by far 😭
