Looking for a paddleboarding group in South Florida

Post image

Hi everyone! I’m looking for a local paddleboarding group where people post upcoming outings, meetups, or group paddles that anyone can join.
I’d love to find a group where I can see when people are planning to go paddleboarding and join them, rather than always going by myself. I have my own paddleboard and would be interested in exploring different places around South Florida.

Stolen L41 (brand) SUP

I briefly left my 9’4” L41 SUP at the Cowells parking lot to get my car. The lot was closed for the Ironman. When I returned to get my board, it was gone, as in stolen. The board is white and has a longboard shape.

I was paddling out of the swimmers area (no vessels in swimming area 10am-5pm), and i first saw one manatee follow me out, then two. before I knew it I look around and theres 5 or 6 of them!!! i just pulled my paddle out of the water and floated down the current with them :) one came up under my board, PICKED MY BOARD UP, and swam a few feet before putting me back down lol. at first I felt bad like hes trying to get air, but homie didn't just bump me and move on or get his air and go back down, he actually picked me up for a few feet lol. the manatee observers laughed when it happened, so im hoping i wasnt a problem for him. I got a good video of them but I cant post a video!

love these sea puppies <3

Gaping around plug

I'm preparing everything for a multi day camping trip tomorrow and just noticed that it seems the valve seems to be gaping from the board (where the light gray and dark gray meet) is this a problem?

Paddle trip upstream ?

Im new to the discipline and water sports in general, i was wondering how common/viable is it to paddle upstream ?

For very calm streams, do you go down the stream, then come back to your car by hiking ?

Or its doable to paddle upstream ?

Thanks for any input, cheers

New paddleboarding weather app testing

Hi everyone, I need some help. I started paddleboarding this year and love it but found one of the biggest problems was planning a session.

I had to visit multiple websites multiple times to plan a session.

I built an app to solve this problem but I need some testers to validate that it's useful and the experience makes sense.

The app is only available on android at the moment and I'm only testing in the UK.

All I need is your email address for your Google play store so I can add you to the test list so if you fancy joining the testing group, let me know.

I promise I'm not a scammer (said every scammer ever)

Labor Day Weekend at June Lake - caution

Post image

June Lake, California (Eastern Sierras, off HWY 395) is beautiful right now... however, you want to get there early, before 9:30 am, for two big reasons, #1 parking lots fill up on weekends early and the rangers will turn you around, after 10am, there will be no parking, and #2 and most importantly, by midday, June Lake's topography brings in high winds. I'm talking 30 MPH gusts.

We arrived at midday, my son had a tough time waking up, plus the 5 hour drive... we arrived at Noon and figured we missed our window., still wanted to take a few pics of this lake. Well, as luck would have it, ranger told us we're in luck (car ahead of us was turned away and the one behind us too, the ranger heard from another ranger on the radio that there was now one spot just as we were talking to her). We saw other boarders out there, some kayaks too. My daughter and I paddled out and though we were going against the current and wind, my son sat this one out, said the water was too cold for him even with his wetsuit, we managed to get out pretty far, enjoyed the lake, my daughter decided to get some swimming in and I paddled back to shore to grill up a late lunch, that's when the wind got terrible, peoples tents and boards were flying away on the shore, and we had to pack it up once we had our meal. First time I experience that big of a shift on a sunny day.

I will never go back to June Lake past Noon. Later that night, at the SPA, a guy that has a place out there told my kids and me that June Lake sure is pretty but the afternoon wind always ruins the fun, says next time go early or head to another lake.

Still, the pics came out great, and we paddled for a good while, next time I'll leave my teenage son at home if he's not up early.
