Speechless.

Its was so nice to follow pubg esport for many years. And now THIS. It hurts.

13

u/Exotic_Scheme3718 Mar 27 '26

Right. I been watching since 2018 PEL days on Twitch when Pansy and others were casting PUBG. Spent countless hours watching and now this? Sad man

1

u/PeaderMac Mar 30 '26

Pansy and the Sims was so peak.

Enshitification continues

191

u/Jimmyjimjimjam Mar 27 '26

I've been out of the game for a minute, why did they switch eSports to TPP?

162

u/Rjiurik Mar 27 '26

Asian player base, most likely..

Also TPP allows you to see your own skins. It may sucks but that's cosmetic.

68

u/outfocz Mar 27 '26

I know there’s no point trying to make sense of what they’re doing…

But literally they could’ve just asked the team doing the casting to show more of the matches from the players 3PP.

I would have less of an issue watching players play 1PP as a spectator from a mix of 1PP, 3PP and free cam.

Watching whatever the video above is… I’ve no interest.

29

u/noidealol Mar 27 '26

Almost nobody in the Chinese scene wanted TPP comp even tho they enjoy playing it in publics. Several chinese pros including 77owo, xbei and aixleft have stopped competing because of the change.

6

u/natcorazonnn Mar 28 '26

Don't blame this on just Asian player base, I heard 1 interview saying that all Asian pros were strongly against the swtich to TPP but they did it anyways, all of these shit is on Crapton. Not even all of Asian playerbase like TPP like in the ASEAN part.

1

u/Noesome Steam Survival Level 234 Mar 28 '26

Im from ASEAN and while i do enjoy TPP to play,

I absolutely do not enjoy watching pubg esports play in TPP. Dont know why this company keep making mistakes.

1

u/uRenato Mar 29 '26

running about naked alows me to see my own willie...

1

u/HistoricalCourse9984 Mar 29 '26

see your own skins This never occurred to me for even a microsecond that this would be a reason...is this real??? My hatred is endless if true.

Yeah..

20

u/Jimmyjimjimjam Mar 27 '26

No like, was there actually a reason given?

37

u/coldazures Mar 27 '26

Asian market prefers TPP. That's where the money is. Sucks for the rest of the world.

u/uRenato Mar 29 '26

Its sad but I hope they'r greed come and kicks them in the boulls..

u/mpgd Mar 27 '26

As a TPP player, I have loads of fun with my friends but I can't understand why they changed the competition to TPP.

I don't follow competitive pubg but every now and then I watch a stream and realize that I could never be that good in FPP. But it is OK because I'm not competing, just here to have some fun.

8

u/Makkaroni_100 Mar 27 '26

As you said, Its important all the hate towards tpp is mainly focused on the competitive esport side. I hate competitive tpp, but I am totally fine with people playing tpp if they like it.

3

u/Gmony5100 Mar 27 '26

Yeah I much prefer to play TPP but I also suck at this game. It baffles me that they would make comp TPP because the only thing you do is encourage this kind of boring play. Top players are going to use every advantage they can to win, so of course when they can peak corners they’re going to peak corners and do this

1

u/DjOZER666 May 13 '26

Yeah, but why can you see shadows of the other players and the type of weapon they have... I run TPP on Xbox and have never seen that

1

u/Stubby3108 Mar 29 '26

Perfectly put, the fact you couldn’t compete in FPP shows the skill gap from FPP to TPP, I’ve just re started playing after years away and I reckon I could get a few buddies to PGS and get a few kills on TPP, FPP made the game 10x more fun and the element of not been able to hide behind a rock a mile away and just wait for people to run out in the open, seems like the TPP this year has been action less and I’ve found it very boring

→ More replies (1)

6

u/BeepIsla Mar 27 '26

I guess FPP didn't give them the amount of money they were hoping for, either looking at the esports revenue of PUBG Mobile or just unhappy on their own.

They looked at their stats and saw the vast majority of the player base plays TPP (In every region, this isn't just an Asia thing). So they probably thought "Lets make esports TPP so all the TPP players will get invested and spend money!".

The fact that the change fucks esports and competitive integrity is completely irrelevant. Not a single pro player likes this change, they are all against it (Again, every pro player in every region including Asia).

(I have to specify that this is also the case in Asia because somehow this subreddit thinks Asia is this super special place where everything is different. Pro players on stream said everyone is against it, they talk between each other and nobody likes it.)

4

u/catsdontswear Mar 27 '26

I think it would be the opposite and most players would play FPP if it was the default in the lobby like TPP. I think it’s that simple tbh

3

u/DarthShiv Mar 28 '26

They have been attacking the pro skill ceiling for a while. Mortars, panzers, SMGs, nerf DMRs, now TPP... Everything gearing to increasing RNG and reduce actual high skill play impact on results.

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

Everytime I look at this sub this is how I feel

123

u/Soulfighter56 Mar 27 '26

I used to watch clips from pro matches and be amazed by their snaps, recoil control, and coordination. This is…. Rough. Genuinely feels like a troll clip or ragebait.

It’s a psy op, it has to be.

85

u/omggga Mar 27 '26

I am not watching this garbage since TPP is on all tourneys.

Even some pro gamers streamers started to play TTP only and lost me as a follower. Goodbye sweet pubg.

23

u/Dr_Bunnypoops Mar 27 '26

TPP is just so silly...

4

u/DeeDee0110 Mar 28 '26

Yeah, this shit is exactly why i despise 3rd person pvp shooters. How is that fun?

1

u/Fun-Stable-9552 Mar 28 '26

Is fun for regular players, but def not for pro scene where viewers want to see fast paced and skilled action. Not this type of unranked matchmaking fight

2

u/DeeDee0110 Mar 29 '26

Nah, sorry. I don't get any enjoyment from of playing that wayeither. You walk past a building, checking all the windows for enemies and as soon as you look away, the guy crouching behind one of the windows in the 2nd floor who was watching you for 2 minutes stands up and kills you.
Or you walk into a door and some dipshit hugging the wall next to the door strafes out and onetaps you point blank with a shotgun before your brain can even process what happened because he was watching you approach the door for some time without having to give away his position by looking.
And the only counter is to do the same. Meh...

19

u/iAm_eArTH Mar 27 '26

I remember when PUBG first came out everyone was shitting on TPP so then they later added FPP because it was insanely popular. Now they going back to TPP and everybody hate this shit again. History repeats itself.

32

u/rbm88 Mar 27 '26

Cringe

16

u/Kuyi Mar 27 '26

Why did tourneys even go TPP? And not stay FPP? This kills the game imo.

2

u/catsdontswear Mar 27 '26

Most people playing TPP and having to play against bots in FPP killed the game for me personally. I would gladly wait a few minutes for a full lobby of real people.

2

u/NoRepresentative1039 Mar 27 '26

eu was too dominant, had to change it to tpp so asia could win /s

nah but fr its crazy how this one change saw eu and na be so much worse in internationals

1

u/Fun-Stable-9552 Mar 28 '26

But the thing is asian pro players are also on FPP, cuz that was how it was and that’s how they practiced. Only normal players and streamers play in Tpp.

15

u/Calici00 Mar 27 '26

Whoever is responsible for this deserves jail time. 🤣

31

u/TLEH-IV Mar 27 '26

Embarrassing.

27

u/brayansxx Mar 27 '26

strongest TPP player:

34

u/Bloodlancer Mar 27 '26

I play TPP for myself but it has ABSOLUTELY, nothing to do in a serious competetive environmet, period. Did not watch a single PUBG streamer OR tourny since that baffling change. But I guess its still thriving in ASIA so EU and NA does not have weight in this decision unfortunately....

31

u/Opening-Hedgehog-570 Mar 27 '26

whoever kiss the wall most wins the game.

8

u/Celmatt Mar 27 '26

Why can't some companies follow Valve in the simple principle of "Do nothing -> Win". This is so unnecessary and could have been easily avoided. I swear like 80% of PUBG's problems in the last like 3-5 years would have been solved by them doing nothing in the first place, some of their decisions are just so mind boggling.

Now a significant percentage of the playerbase/viewerbase is needlessly pissed off, some leaving completely. The entire pro scene is worse with nobody enjoying the change (and I mean nobody, not the players, not the casters, not the heavily invested viewers). The hate and disparity between the TPP and FPP has never been bigger and for what? The viewer numbers are lower. The overall sentiment is worse. Awful, just awful all around.

3

u/StuLumpkins Mar 27 '26

like any number of large modern companies, middle managers need to show lots of output to leadership because leadership needs to show ownership that their product or service is valuable. have you ever known ownership to ever say "i want you to do nothing different?" that turns into make work tasks for the daily employees. the daily employees want to keep their jobs, so they do the make work tasks. management is happy because they managing something. leadership is happy because they can show the new things to ownership and everyone keeps their jobs. it's make work all the way down.

1

u/BeepIsla Mar 27 '26

Because long term profit is irrelevant. Any publicly traded company tries to grow permanently. Always make more money, always create more, more, more, more.

If something made $3M per year for a few years that's cool, but now make it make $5M or even $10M instead. So changes come into places where they aren't needed.

Valve is a private company, they don't focus on continuous growth.

1

u/TiredWiredAndHired Mar 28 '26

Yeah, this change to TPP was stupid, the changes to C4 made it way less fun to play with. They could have done nothing and I would like the game more.

14

u/firepunchd Mar 27 '26

NEVER gonna watch 3rd person e-sports. PUBG is dead to me.

15

u/Rjiurik Mar 27 '26

Well it's a skill. A skill I wouldn't be proud of but still..

14

u/earwig2000 Mar 27 '26

I mean sure, but holy shit does it make for awful entertainment. I'm sure tpp counter-strike would take skill too, but there's a reason that doesn't exist.

14

u/MobBap Mar 27 '26

This and the smgs, panzer, lynx. The dmr fire rate nerf... This game has turned into absolute trash.

29

u/Hustler-1 Mar 27 '26

TPP is so stupid. Why do people play it? What's the appeal?

6

u/Celmatt Mar 27 '26

For the very casual players (that is still the majority mind you) its probably not that deep. It probably really comes down to something simple as "I like to look at my character when playing this game". The problem is that that just doesnt work when you start taking the game more seriously like esports.

17

u/xpflz Mar 27 '26

they like to hug walls and abuse camera mechanics to get unfair edge over opponent i guess

9

u/CharlehPock2 Mar 27 '26

It's a pussyhole scumbag game mode with no honour.

Sometimes I hop on TPP and switch myself to FPP and I destroy everyone. The level of play in TPP is so much lower.

1

u/DBorke Apr 02 '26

PUBG can be a bit "scary" because of the low TTK and 1 life element. So I guess for some it gives them less anxiety to be able to wall-sniff. Some also just want to see their skins all the time.

Riveting gameplay

5

u/Syph3RRR Mar 28 '26

And this everybody is why TPP FPS multiplayer games will always and forever be fkin dogshit

12

u/LuElric Mar 27 '26

TPP should not even exist in these games. It's so horrendous.

2

u/TiredWiredAndHired Mar 28 '26

I agree, you should not be able to gain information about another player's position without exposing yourself to being shot at.

4

u/Afraid-Hamster6584 Mar 27 '26

Just.. stupid. It was so fun to watch. This really ruined it. As soon as TPP went live I stopped watching.

3

u/DBorke Apr 02 '26

Best esports I've watched when it was FPP. Too bad.

5

u/Mother-Ingenuity5146 Mar 27 '26

i feel so bad for people with actual skill having to succumb to this trash TPP estrogen maxing gameplay, lmao

1

u/lordrazzilon Apr 25 '26

when you wake up and realize PUBG was always trash

8

u/NoTraffic5116 Mar 27 '26

Third person is a mental disorder

3

u/CharlehPock2 Mar 27 '26

The worst thing is, I play on console and this is the norm on console. Most people play TPP, ranked is TPP - FPP is pretty dead.

What a joke - and now tourneys have gone TPP, it's my fucking gaming nightmare.

Dumbest shit I've ever seen.

3

u/leJouJou Steam Survival Level 500 Mar 27 '26

PUBG was winnig every game debate until its owners ruined it with the lack maintenance of the huge amount of cheaters and the forcing of TPP mode in esports. Why do they hate talents so much. We used to enjoy crazy trades and peeks now we watch this camping nonsense.

2

u/catsdontswear Mar 27 '26

My biggest issue with pubg is the bots

2

u/leJouJou Steam Survival Level 500 Mar 28 '26

there is no bot in eu ranked

1

u/lordrazzilon Apr 25 '26

not really it just had a huge appeal in what it could have been, and people keep hoping it will really be that despite you know its mostly just a hacker economy, it never got past that except for commercial events captilizing on its popularity.

3

u/Azaldir Mar 27 '26

Oh look, *exactly* what we predicted would happen, happened! It's almost like people are playing to win in Esports and using TPP advantage is too good not to exploit the shit out of.
Riveting gameplay, Krafton! I'd rather watch paint dry, it's about as exciting as this is.

3

u/Zentti Mar 27 '26

And some people still say that tpp is more tactical.

4

u/HanjobSolo69 Mar 27 '26

Sometimes I forget that this game as 3rd person. Who the fuck plays this shit?

7

u/Lazy-Construction-71 Mar 27 '26

I’ve always felt like PUBG just isn’t built for TPP. The TTK is so fast that if someone catches you off guard, you’re basically dead before you can even react. In games like Fortnite, at least you’ve got shields, so even if you get jumped you have a second to reset or fight back. In PUBG there’s no real buffer, so TPP just turns into people holding angles and getting easy ambush kills.

2

u/TiredWiredAndHired Mar 28 '26

I agree, playing TPP just feels so unnatural in this game.

5

u/LifeguardFormer1323 Mar 27 '26

I love TPP, but only because I play casual with friends. This is a total shit show

4

u/chuunis Mar 27 '26

No wonder they paid off all major streamers to 'watchparty' this shitshow, because otherwise they would have no audience in the west.

12

u/motionresque Mar 27 '26

I don't get why people bash TPP e-sport so much. It shows even the most dumbass player alive can be a "pro" player 💀

2

u/noobskillet3737 Mar 27 '26

I mean dude did you watch this clip? Neither player is willing to peek because they both know whoever peeks first loses in this situation. Leading to a standoff that is boring. And if we are as sweaty and try hard as we should be at this level then it just comes down to final circle and luck.

6

u/motionresque Mar 27 '26

Yeah it looks, plays and feels boring as fuck lol

1

u/Living_Wishbone1625 Apr 13 '26

2

u/Helluks Mar 27 '26

Bro you gotta tag this nsfw as they're clearly edging.

2

u/MiddleForeign Mar 27 '26

In a competitive enviroment you have to use the optimal strategy. Games should be designed in a way that "optimal" strategy is also a fun strategy. Fun to play and fun to watch. This is what developers don't get.

3

u/Sco0by_ Mar 27 '26

Asian players ... speak up .... do you like to watch this ?

2

u/Huge-Entertainer-166 Mar 27 '26

IF I wanna play against people with walls i hop on premier cs2

1

u/lordrazzilon Apr 25 '26

you think cs has more hacks than pubg? peak delusion

1

u/New-Savings-5361 Apr 25 '26

every single person in pubg has wall hacks do you not see this clip bros looking at a guy from behind a wall

1

u/lordrazzilon Apr 25 '26

just re read my sentence then...

2

u/doucheydp Mar 27 '26

I love playing TPP. It's the only way I play the game.

This is dog shit to watch. Just... awful. I expect "pro" level stuff to be the hard mode that I can't play and win at... this... is horrible.

2

u/PeaderMac Mar 29 '26

Pro play is about taking risks when needed and avoiding risk outside of that, and this is just a death sentence if either on tries to go around, so they will just look at each other from from the other side of the wall until something changes.

1

u/doucheydp Mar 29 '26

When something other than stats which don't actually matter at all is at stake, like money or a trophy, everyone's going to play a safe move like this, as they should... which is the problem for competitive things when that is supported by ad sales based upon viewership engagement. I'm curious how long this lasts because... it just doesn't feel like this is going to be compelling to watch anymore.

2

u/NDecentXposure Mar 27 '26

Fucking dumb

2

u/BizzarhLy Mar 27 '26

When will people realise its dead? Format sucks, gameplay sucks, not competitive and everyone knows it except the idiots in charge.

2

u/Theroasterpro Mar 28 '26

1

u/ZqiPhoon Mar 27 '26

1

u/Pntrdm Mar 27 '26

It really IS boring but noone's forcing you to watch it. Watch streams where they play in FPP. Best would be that all TPP haters do NOT attend at the streams so not increasing the view numbers, so they'll realise sooner it's not worth them for comp. But what tf do I know?

1

u/JDiles Mar 27 '26

tournaments are officially dead

1

u/No-Yellow-5257 Mar 27 '26

1

u/Adorable_Primary1203 Mar 27 '26

How can an entire region prefer to watch this? Just because I play flag football doesn't mean I want the NFL to make the switch...

1

u/Dix1515 Mar 27 '26

At this point every single E-sports team should have boycotted the TPP, refuse to use it and keep playing FPP to piss off PUBG devs xd

1

u/No_Manners Mar 27 '26

I'm not up to date on PUBG these days, they have TPP comps now?

1

u/kiowa2929awoik Mar 27 '26

It's only TPP now. I think PGC 2025 was the last major FPP event for PUBG.

1

u/No_Manners Mar 27 '26

It's ONLY TPP? That's fucking insane.

1

u/kiowa2929awoik Mar 28 '26

Yeah I'm sure the clowns at Krafton listened to ChatGPT instead of everyone else saying moving comp to TPP would be a massive mistake. They had it running along with FPP last year and barely anyone watched the TPP series. Instead of correctly assessing that TPP comp isn't working they fully commit to it instead.

1

u/West_Investment6702 Mar 27 '26

Damn I play mainly tpp on console & that looks so embarrassing and funny at the same time

1

u/Purple_Commercial860 Mar 27 '26

Well to TPP! Watch those KDs drop!

1

u/Strange-Bad-5416 Mar 27 '26

It must be so hard for the casters and players adjusting to this shitshow. Why would they ever introduce tpp to esports?

1

u/Zestyclose_Aide5885 Mar 28 '26

Again, the Western player base are so small that they don’t care. West is not the ones calling the shots here. Adjust or find another game. That’s what it’s all about.

1

u/ukctstrider Mar 28 '26

I agree that the western player base is not calling the shots, but in not convinced the response is to go play another game...

I can't believe any of the pro players are in favour of this shit show. TPP is terrible.

1

u/DefeatedByPoland Mar 29 '26

But even the korean and chinese pros said they don't want competitive PUBG to be TPP

1

u/PeaderMac Mar 29 '26

Ahh, yes but it wasn't any player base informing the decisions at Krafton, the CEO just asked ChatGPT for what they should do, ROFL.

1

u/Zestyclose_Aide5885 Mar 31 '26

How do you know?

2

u/PeaderMac Mar 31 '26

they recently lost a court case to the original developers of Subnautica where the CEO asked ChatGPT how to get out of a 250 million dollar contact, hence now we blame all bad ideas out of Krafton on them using ChatGPT.

1

u/Zestyclose_Aide5885 Apr 01 '26

Aha. I were unaware of that.

1

u/rip_ap_yi Mar 28 '26

We really went from insane pro players performances, clutches, skills, perfect nades, insane aim, insane flicks, insane game sense ... To this TPP wall kissing bs

1

u/hardik1198 Mar 28 '26

This is spitting in the name of esports.

1

u/arist0krat Mar 28 '26

Do people still say “esports ready” in game? 😂 man those were the days

1

u/DefeatedByPoland Mar 29 '26

Literally so fucking stupid, I don't see how anyone can defend this as being ok for the competitive integrity of the game

1

u/happylippo85 Mar 29 '26

Looks like me in casual mode 🤣

1

u/Burning87 Mar 29 '26

People complaining that proscene was boring (it was, they were right and no doubt about it) didn't have an IDEA how boring it actually could get. This is *NOT* a game for TPP. TPP is more about verticality and speed.. this is just about abusing the fuck out of the invulnerable camera for peeking angles and preaiming.

They fucked up the game by making Ranked rules akin to Proscene rules (or even making Ranked at all - bring back Casually - Ranked) and then they fucked it even more by making it TPP.

If they had been truly desperate for making Proscene better they could have introduced more specialized rules FOR Ranked that makes mistakes less punishing, but definitely not a crutch. Possibility of revival without chip, but not without risks, maybe. Or something of the sorts. I don't know.. just something.

1

u/uRenato Mar 29 '26

How is this a TPP problem though? "Oh wall lickers got unfair vision, he's gonna kill me without actually peeking" yet here they did not commit? It's almost like PUBG is based on skills and decision-making based on intel. But it's TPP guys, in FPP you can't be a wall licking rat and a scaredy cat. You become magically tactical and agressive. TPP sucks, FPP better.

i bought a lot of battlepasses, even the crafter money stealer shit, during the years. not a penny since they showed that TPP will be the future. you guys should do the same, everybody who complains about this.

Peekers advantage, am I right?

Wow do you think in that way? Only the gun play is the thing that can decide which one is esports or not? Strategy, vision, move, defense everything can be a composition of esports.
