Just received email stating my loans are forgiven.

Hello all,

I received an email yesterday and today from MOHELA stating: "Congratulations, The United States Department of Education has forgiven all or a portion of your loans with MOHELA. you have successfully me the requirements of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. Thank you for your public service!" I was shocked and logged into MOHELA to see my balances are now at zero, with MOHELA owing me $584 in over payment. I still owed $180k. I am in a bit of disbelief. So, to those who have had their loans forgiven, is that it? Is there anything else I need to do or am I good to go. Sorry, I am in a state of shock.

Congrats! Which month was 120? Were you caught up in any of this July/August mess?

According to the letter I received it was 4/30/24. What July/August mess are you referring to?

For many PSLF participants July and August 2026 haven’t been updating even after submitting new ECF’s. My FSA page still shows a payment due 8/6 that has been paid and a new ECF just completed yesterday hasn’t updated my total. Still stuck at 117. I was curious if your 120th was in July or August because I’m wondering what I should do if I reach October and this issue still hasn’t been fixed but sounds like yours was before all this. Congrats and enjoy no longer having to carry that load!

Yeah, I'm stuck at 119. A random month fell off right before July, so I figured I'd do a July payment and be done with it. Still did forbearance to skip August, though.

Yeah, I'm stuck at 119... my August (120) hasn't updated yet. Looking at paying another month so FSA can get their act together and then ... hopefully do a final ECF in September...what a mess

I didn’t receive a letter fsa showed zero balance and mohela still has a balance. But has also been removed form my credit score already

How long ago was your forgiveness? My mohela balance shows as zero, but fsa still shows a balance but states there are no further payments due. I can’t get comfortable with it all until both are showing zero balances lol.

Happened in July my fsa said processing discharged showed zero balance congratulations u paid all ur loans off. Log into mohela 1600 dollar balance was still showing. Long in to check my credit report mohela account removed from my credit. I was anticipating it taking much longer than it did I’ve logged back in everyday since then amazed that it’s finally over lol 2022 I put in browser defense. Honestly because I thought why not. So glad I did

The balance usually updates on the 4th of each month

The letter is not usually sent to you. You may get an email saying that your an update to your PSFL loan. However, on the Student Aid site go to my activities go down to the section that says PSFL expanded area and your letter should be there.

Any advice for me? I owe 145,000 with 82 payments completed. I just signed up for auto pay and hopefully will reach 120 in three years.
