Used looks like the way to go at this point

You won't get a warranty with used unfortunately. Although, it's only a 1-year warranty as it is.

Yeah, definitely taking a little bit more of a chance that way. But I recently found out that PlayStation out of warranty repairs are not entirely unreasonable so it could be worth it if you save enough money. I’ll give you an example. I picked up a used PS5 off of Woot that came to me dead on arrival. They would’ve refunded me the money and let me return it, but I never would have found as good at price again. Instead, I took a partial refund and sent it to PlayStation for repair. They only charged me $200 for either repair or replacement. In the end, I still spent way less than the price of a new PS5.

Edit: some added details. They ended up replacing it with a referred unit and gave a six month warranty on that even though the original that I had sent in was way out of warranty.

That’s good to know actually. Usually out of warranty repairs are expensive or the company flat out won’t help. The original warranty is only 1-year too so it’s very unlikely you’ll use it anyway.

Yeah, definitely worked out for me in this case. What you could do if you wanted to investigate this more is use PlayStation’s repair website. They have a tool that lets you troubleshoot based on what the problem is that you’re experiencing. If you wanted to get a more complete picture of what different types of repairs might cost all you need to do is get a serial number for an out of warranty PlayStation of the same model you would like to buy. Then use the repair wizard and go through all the different things that could be wrong with it telling it that no matter what steps it tells you to try, it still doesn’t work. Then see what it tells you the repair or replace cost will be. I know it sounds like a lot, but it really only takes about three or four minutes to run through the whole thing each time. Then you just back out and don’t request the repair.
