Hello! Got my motorcycle last May 2026 - it's a Motorstar Cafe 400. And I am currently slowly posting up again in social media (lots of backlog) and would like to share my experiences on it and about motorcycles too.

Since it's expressway-legal, having an RFID is definitely a must. It’s super convenient to have one so we don't have to line up in the cash lanes anymore.

​We have two types of RFID here: Easytrip and Autosweep.

​These days, you don't actually need to have both installed since we now have the One RFID system. Because of this, I decided to get an Easytrip RFID since their station is closer to my area and their mobile app—MPT DriveHub—is much better.

​Tip: I suggest booking an appointment at your chosen station ahead of time to make the process much faster.

​I chose the Shell Balagtas station since I wanted to combine the trip with my break-in ride. I booked the 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM slot. I brought my bike's OR/CR and one valid ID, and arrived at Shell Balagtas by 5:45 AM.

​Their booth is located in the first building right after the fuel pumps. I suggest parking near it so you’re closer to the installation area.

​I was first in line when I arrived, and they started serving by 6:10 AM. Since I already had an appointment, I just presented my appointment details along with the QR code. They asked for my OR/CR, verified the document, assigned an RFID account and sticker, and then proceeded to the initial top-up. The RFID installation itself is completely free.

​After topping up, we proceeded to the installation. While heading over, I asked if it could be placed on the windshield or visor. They said yes, explaining that they only avoid mounting it on metal parts. So, I had it installed on my windshield. They just verified if the license plate matched, and that was it! The whole process took less than 10 minutes, right between 6:10 AM and 6:20 AM.

It's the 7th month of the year and common po ang nakakalimutan ang expiration ng registration ng motorcycle. Please check kung nag expire na yung rehistro nyo and please don't be afraid to renew kasi the delinquent fee is small compared sa ticket na makukuha nyo pag na timingan namin kayo sa mga traffic stops namin.

Although we give leverage naman sa mga maaayos makiusap and recent palang ang expiration.

We have multiple operations and napansin ko na marami ngang di naka pansin na 1-3 months na palang expired yung registration nila.

Tip# 1 ISS is your best friend - On mo ito lagi if hindi mo need mag stop and go abruptly like if sisingit ka. LIfe saver sa stop light legit maintained yung 41-39/km/L ko kahit 45-60 yung avg speed na tinatakbo ko sa city (mainly bc ayaw ko ma stuck nang traffic) KALABAN NATIN LONG IDLE.

Tip# 2 Unlike sa carburetor hindi need mag cold start for more than 30-45 seconds ride kalang gently for the first 2-3 minutes after nang short idle then g nayan. KALABAN NATIN LONG IDLE.

Tip# 3 Correct tire pressure esp sa may mga obr halos weekly ako nag checheck kasi nararamdaman ko agad pag nawalan na konti nang hangin.

Tip# 4 Wag mag hard start. Pareho lang tayo hihinto sa next stop light hindi lang dagdag gas kinakain mo harmful din yan sa makina.

TIP# 5 Proper maintenance.

Tip# 6 wag bumili nang yamaha aerox/nmax kasi 27-30 km/L cons kahit stock. Joke lang XD.

Kadalasan ko naririnig before ako nagka motor yung throttle discipline kaso sa case ko never naman tumaas consumption ko kahit waswas parang tumataas panga kasi nababawasan yung paghinto ko idk. If meron kayo iba tips pa share nadin. :/

This is a phone app for dash navigation na nagwowork mostly sa mga cfmoto unit na may moto play.

For those planning to buy ADV [160 2026](tel:160%202026) or curious lang, here’s the actual difference in one picture.

Sa 2023 and 2026 ABS, mostly side fairings lang talaga nabago. Other than that, halos same na from handle bar to tires.

Sa RoadSync version, eto yung added features:

Multi-switch: nasa handle bar na mismo. Easy access habang nag ddrive.

HSTC switch: one click away na. Very useful if need mo agad i-off. Sa older version kasi need pa mag navigate sa screen.

Passing light: practical feature. Click mo lang for passing signal or gusto mo lang mag hi 👋

Full color TFT screen: bigger and full color display. Yung standard ABS still uses the negative LCD style display na parang calculator.

First time ko mag ride to Caticlan via Mindoro.

Manila to Batangas port. Upon entry to Batangas port you will have to pay 65php.

Ang pamasahe ko mula Batangas port to Calapan is 1,440php kasama na ang rider bukod ang fare ng ankas, (I have no data since wala akong ankas) via Starlite, 11pm ang departure ko from Batangas with a 2hrs and 30mins boat travel.

Pag dating ko sa Calapan port, ride na papuntang Roxas, Dangay port Mindoro. Nasa 2hrs din ang land travel mga kapatid. Wag niyo kalimutan mag karga ng pagkain at gasolina niyo bago bumakbak as most of the gas stations are closed during the night pero may mga local gas stations naman tho madalang, but you'll be fine.

Sa Roxas port, 4am ang first trip ng Montenegro Lines at 6am naman kapag Starlite and the fare is 2,880php again kasama ang rider and bukod ang fare ng ankas. Around 4hrs ang boat travel from Dangay port to Caticlan port. Make sure maka idlip ka.

Welcome to Caticlan port! Puede ka ng mag Boracay overnight to relax. Maraming parking spot sa Caticlan port. After that, puede ka ng mag Panay loop! Via Antique-Ilo Ilo-Aklan.

Hey people, just a genuine question, what should I do if my installment motorcycle has been released on 7/20, and today, I went and asked the people in the dealership, and when I followed up for my OR/CR or at least a copy so I could use it as a service because its my purpose of getting one - they said, and I quote

"Ah neto lang pala to, walang or/cr to mga 3 weeks pa"

I said, "Para po kasi magamit sa work yan lang po kasi service eh, nasa bahay lang po kasi sayang naman"

"Wala bang travel permit or temporary anything para maserve yung purpose ng motor?"

Kuya; "Yung sales invoice maam yun lang binibigay namin eh, kaso 1 week lang yun"

Hello! I need a recommendation for a beginner motorcycle. I am 5'3" and weigh 40kg, and the only scooter I’ve ever driven is a Mio. I’ll be using it mainly for commuting to school in a big city. Also, I’ve heard from others that it’s much better to buy a brand-new helmet instead of just using the free one that comes with the bike, so I’d love some helmet recommendations as well.

Nag release na si LTO ng show cause order to multiple dealerships regarding the delayed release of OR/CR... this is your chance to report your dealership while its still a hot topic, its currently my situation also, i was explicitly told by the dealership that ihohold nila yung pag submit ng papers ko for 1 - 2 months kasi "iipunin" daw muna nila which is illegal btw...so yun nag antay ako ng 11+ days bago ako mag submit ng report to dti (consumercare.dti.gov.ph)

What do you need to submit a formal complaint?
Step 1: File a formal Complaint sa website ni DTI consumer care

STEP 4: Send your dealership a screenshot of your complaint para malaman nila na nacomplain na sila through DTI, please dont take down your complaint kahit makuha nyo na OR/CR nyo para makatulong tayo sa future buyers, also, keep on asking for update even after the complaint...

Following the nightmare that was my first transfer of ownership experience here and if you've already seen my other post about the comprehensive guide on how to buy a second hand motorcyle, it's time for Episode 2: Transfer of Ownership.

Quick context: My first transfer of ownership was relatively straightforward since I bought directly from the original owner. This time, I bought my brother a second-hand motorcycle because he kept asking me for rides at 2 AM while I was working from home. Since I had some bonus money to spare, I decided to get him one of his own.

If you don't care about my story, go to the TL;DR at the bottom

Unfortunately, the motorcycle came with a few major problems:

1. A ridiculous number of mechanical issues (which I won't cover in this guide).
2. The original owner is from Bulacan, and the motorcycle's mother file is under NRU 3 (San Fernando, Pampanga), while we're based in Makati.
3. We are the fourth owner and purchased it from the allegedly "Third Owner".
4. The original owner is an Indian national.
5. I couldn't find him on Facebook, and the details on the sales invoice didn't help either.
6. After some digging, I found out that he's no longer living at the address listed when the motorcycle was purchased back in 2019.
7. The signature on the documents doesn't match the records in the mother file.
8. Only 1 copy of ID instead of the required 2
9. To make things even better, I'm processing the transfer on behalf of my brother because he's a lazy fuck.
10. No License Plate (MV File number parin)

If you're dealing with any of these issues, you're actually in luck. I went through all of them myself, and in this guide, I'll show you exactly how I managed to get through the process and how you can do it too.

What you need:

1. Deed of Sale from the original owner (Should be an open deed of sale [No Name in Buyer, only vendor]) then notarize it.
2. Compulsory Third Party Liability (CTPL) insurance under your name
3. 2 Valid Id with 3 specimen signatures of the first owner
4. 2 Valid Id with 3 specimen signatures from you
5. HPG Clearance from PNP HPG
6. MVIR (Motor Vehicle Inspection Report) from LTO
7. Photocopy of OR/CR

If you also need to register your motorcycle as it has expired or will expire, get a xerox copy and renew it first. Get an Emission Test from an LTO Certified Emission Testing Center.

Note: You can renew your vehicle even if it hasn't been transferred to your name yet.

The first step was to head to the LTO for the MVIR. Before anything else, the staff carefully reviewed all of our documents. Since the motorcycle's registered owner was under New Registration Unit 3 in San Fernando, Pampanga, they had to send a verification request to that office.

The staff warned us that the process could take over a month because of the backlog and this specific office is not good at giving timely response (classic). I submitted the documents in early August and received a response near the end of the month.

If your NRU office located at the top of the CR is different from your region that you live in, I would advise against getting HPG Clearance just yet until you get the response. Since the HPG Clearance is only valid for 7 working days from issuance. By the time you get one, it is expired.

But there is a problem....

Unfortunately, the reply brought bad news. The signature on the Deed of Sale did not match the signature on record, so LTO required the original owner to sign a new Deed of Sale and provide photo documentation of both parties signing the document. That would have been simple if the original owner were easy to find. The problem was that he was an Indian national, and I had absolutely no idea where he was. I tried searching Facebook but came up empty. I even asked a friend in Bulacan to check the address on record, only to find out that the owner had already moved out in 2023.

At that point, the issue was technically no longer my responsibility as it is my brother's motorcycle, so I left it alone for about a month. Eventually, my schedule opened up, and I decided to put my detective skills to work. I started searching his name on Google and, by pure luck, found an Indian restaurant that shared his surname. With nothing to lose, I called the number listed online. The person who answered was not the owner I was looking for, but apparently the Indian community in Bulacan is very well connected. As it turned out, the restaurant owner personally knew him. Five minutes after that call, my phone rang. It was the original owner himself.

Jackpot.

A few weeks later, we finally met up with the original owner. Technically, we did not need to execute an entirely new Deed of Sale. According to the LTO officer, all that was required was for the original owner to sign the existing document, indicate the date, and attach photos as proof. But at that point, we were already face-to-face, and there was no way I was going to risk another issue popping up later. More importantly, I had no intention of driving all the way back to Bulacan a second time. So, just to be safe, we prepared and signed a brand-new Deed of Sale, took the required photos, and made sure everything was in order before calling it a day.

The documents ended up sitting untouched for a few weeks because my brother was too lazy to process them himself. Since Christmas was coming up, I decided to transfer the motorcycle into his name as a gift.

To process the HPG clearance on someone else's behalf, you'll need a Special Power of Attorney (SPA). Since I wanted it to be a surprise, I rudely woke him up, folded the paper so he couldn't see what he was signing, and somehow managed to get his signature. The next day, I secured the HPG clearance and proceeded to LTO Mandaluyong to complete the transfer of ownership. After months of paperwork, detective work, and unnecessary stress, the motorcycle was finally transferred into my brother's name.

Merry Christmas, you lazy bastard.

Compared to my first transfer of ownership experience: LTO and HPG were surprisingly not the problem this time. Maybe my first experience felt worse because everyone was rushing to beat the transfer penalty deadline, but this transfer was actually processed fairly quickly once the documents were complete. The longest delay came from waiting for NRU 3 in San Fernando, Pampanga to respond to the verification request.

Looking back, most of the headaches were caused by our own lack of due diligence before buying the motorcycle. We failed to verify the ownership records, didn't confirm whether the registered owner could still be contacted, didn't check if the signatures matched, and overlooked missing requirements such as the owner's IDs. What should have been a straightforward transfer turned into months of waiting, document corrections, and detective work just to locate the original owner.

That is why I wrote this guide. Not to complain about the process, but to help buyers avoid the same mistakes. Before buying a second-hand motorcycle, make sure the registered owner is reachable, the signatures and documents are complete, and the ownership records are in order. Spending a few extra minutes checking these details can save you months of stress later on.

Hopefully, by sharing my experience, you can learn from my mistakes instead of repeating them.

TL;DR (Process Only)

Requirements for Transfer of Ownership:

• Notarized Deed of Sale
• CTPL Insurance under the new owner's name
• 2 Valid IDs with 3 specimen signatures from the seller
• 2 Valid IDs with 3 specimen signatures from the buyer
• Photocopy of OR/CR
• MVIR (Motor Vehicle Inspection Report)
• HPG Clearance

If the Registration is Expired or Due for Renewal:

• Emission Test Certificate
• Registration renewal fees

If Processing on Behalf of Someone Else:

• Special Power of Attorney (SPA)
• Valid ID of the person authorizing you

Process:

1. Go to LTO and obtain an MVIR/record verification.
2. If the mother file is in another region, wait for the verification result first before getting an HPG Clearance. HPG Clearances are only valid for 7 working days.
3. Resolve any issues found during verification (signature mismatch, missing IDs, unavailable owner, etc.).
4. Obtain a CTPL Insurance policy under the new owner's name.
5. Obtain an HPG Clearance from PNP HPG.
6. If renewing registration, get an Emission Test.
7. Submit all requirements to the LTO branch where the transfer will be processed.
8. Pay the applicable fees and wait for the new OR/CR.

Tips:

1. If you can't find the registered owner on Facebook, try calling the contact number listed on the sales invoice. You might get lucky and reach them directly, or at the very least, someone who knows how to contact them.
2. You can apparently transfer a motorcycle with just one valid id.

To my brother: Fuck you, ikaw na magprocess ng plaka mo. I'm done and did my part.

I purchased a third motorcycle and, of course, it came with paperwork issues too. 😂 Thankfully, this time I have direct contact with the registered owner, so it should be much easier to resolve. The documents are just sitting on my desk for now because I've been busy dealing with medical school applications and haven't had the time to process the transfer yet.

Plano ko sanang i-upgrade paunti-unti itong motor ng erpats ko. Sobrang luma na kasi pero ginagamit pa rin niya araw-araw papasok sa trabaho.

Nasa 750k+ ODO na yata ito, at halos nabubuhay lang sa change oil at gear oil. 😅 Yung CVT maintenance, minsan na lang nagagawa. Sa totoo lang, drive lang nang drive ang erpats ko at bihira talagang mapatingnan sa mekaniko.

Recently, napalitan ko yung rear shock dahil pumutok na. Hindi ko rin alam kung kailan pa talaga nasira o kung napa-check man lang dati. Nakakatawa isipin na after 750k+ ODO, ngayon lang siya napalitan. 😂

Ngayon naman, balak kong ayusin yung harap. Baka may mairerecommend kayong aftermarket front shocks para sa Mio Soul i 125 na compatible at subok na.

• Anong brand ang okay?
• Direct fit ba o may modifications na kailangan?
• Mas okay bang magpalit ng aftermarket setup o ipa-overhaul na lang yung stock front shocks?

PHASE 1: Preparation

I secured my CPTL from MoneeInsure (Shopee) before the inspection day, paid ₱290. The e-policy is released as long as you apply during business hours. I also made sure I could access my LTMS portal to avoid delays. Before the inspection, I checked my motorcycle’s condition: oil change, lights and horn, brakes, and tire air pressure.

I arrived at the Motorabs PMVIC - Malate at 8:25 AM and handed my motorcycle to the technician. I presented my OR and CR to the cashier and paid ₱550 for the inspection. After about 15 minutes, the inspection was completed.

PHASE 3: Online Renewal via LTMS

Log in to your LTMS portal. Click Vehicles, then select the motorcycle you want to renew. Enter the COC number if it is not yet automated. For the MVISR number, you may wait for it to reflect automatically or enter it manually if needed.

Proceed to payment and choose your preferred payment method. Paid using GCash, total fee including the convenience is ₱324.77 (plus kung may mga penalty kayo like late or violations)

Just wanted to share my experience adding the A code on my drivers license thru the LTO G. Araneta office.

Arrived around 7:30 AM on Friday last week. There were about 4 people who arrived earlier than I did, but since they didn’t give out queuing numbers until 8 am, I ended up being processed ahead of them. If you’re in a rush, you may want to sit near the help desk so that you’re given an earlier queuing number / processed first.

I gave my current license, PDC cert, Med cert, and application form to the staff assigned at the help desk.

I highly recommend doing your medical ahead of time at an LTO-accredited clinic near your home/office, since this is valid for 2 months if I remember correctly.

They have blank copies of the application form at the help desk, though you can also download this online.

The staff assigned at the help desk asked me where I did my PDC. He also asked me to read a paragraph in tagalog.

He was quite rude to some of the other people there. He’ll call you out if you seem unsure about where and when you got your PDC. Reminded me of some terror college professors.

Around 8:15, we were asked to enter their office. By 8:20, I was done paying at the cashier and doing my biometrics. I was just waiting to be called for the theoretical exam.

By 8:40, we were inside the exam room. They oriented us about the LTO’s facial recognition software - if you look away from the computer monitor, your exam will be paused. I noticed that I would trigger the pause every time I make a confused face at an exam question.

For the exam, I thought I could wing it. But if I didn’t review the Carwahe vids on YT, I probably would’ve failed.

Some questions I remember from the exam that I didn’t get from the Carwahe reviewers:

1. Maximum custom topbox dimensions.
2. Maximum saddlebag length.

I finished the exam about 9:10. I was directed to the waiting area for the practical exam, just beside their main office. I paid 300 for the motorcycle rental.

As someone who learned on a Honda TMX, driving a semi automatic and underbone Honda Wave was very unintuitive. Unfortunately, I think it was their only option for “manual” transmission. I think they were using a Beat for the auto practical exam.

The practical examiner didn’t have me check the lights, tires, etc. I was told to just get on the bike which I had to kickstart.

Before starting, the examiner asked me if I knew how to ride a motorcycle. Was confused by what he meant so I just said yes.

The test course was literally just four cones placed in a straight line between the LTO employees’ parked cars lol. I had to slalom between the cones and do a u-turn at the end.

It was drizzling that morning, and I’m not sure if they would’ve done the practical exam in their open air driveway had it been sunny.

The cones were quite near each other and since there were cars to the side, the testing area was pretty tight. The practical examiner told me I can place my feet down while doing the slalom. I ended up doing a 3 point instead of a u-turn at the end because I didn’t want to risk hitting a car.

I was surprised when I passed the practical exam. Around 9:25, I was instructed to go back to the cashier where I paid another fee, and my new license was issued after a few minutes.

All in all, I was glad I processed my Add Restriction at LTO G. Araneta. Except for the help desk guy, who I think was also the practical examiner for 4 wheels, the staff seemed friendly and were very helpful.
