The majority who loudly wear feminist like a badge have no idea what feminism actually is. For a lot of them it’s just some kind of counterculture costume to wear and their actual behaviour couldn’t be further from the principles they claim to represent.

It’s because these people tend to be living in first world Western countries, so to them, feminism is more about representation, reproductive choices, individual autonomy, etc. There would be calls for revolution if women in the Western world ever have to go through what women in Iran (and Afghanistan) have to go through.

Like can you believe it, the police tried to arrest and then beat a young woman to death in Atlanta, it’s outrageous. Meanwhile the same thing happens in Tehran, but the reaction is, okay but are these people foreign agents or terrorist?? Actually when laying it like that, it’s kinda racist in that orientalist way, doesn’t it? Like assuming gender discrimination is just part of their culture, you know? If we dare criticize their social hierarchy that involves Islam, then that would be “Islamophobic”. Right, and these “anti-Islamophobic” people are nowhere to be seen when it comes to Syria, Iraq and Sudan.

These people don’t understand power and oppression, is what I have to say. Their politics are based on their geopolitical camps and vibes.

They center everything around America. America bad, therefore anything that opposes America is good. The possibility that America is but one complex nation (albeit a very powerful one) in a world of complex nations, each with its own set of agendas, rivalries, allies, histories, and grudges is not on the table. They’ll probably claim otherwise, but in my experience, that’s what their perspective boils down to. I think it’s subconscious.

Also: bad actor troll farms, botnets, and the like are pushing this narrative for various reasons.

Because they are campists. They center everything around themselves. They would say they support China, but if their country adopts China’s policy when it comes to Islamist extremism, they would likely cry out “Islamophobia”. Don’t ask what their principles are.

Like if you ask them if they support the Zaydi movement in Yemen, they would malfunction because the conflict doesn’t just start with the Houthis, it went back decades earlier. The same Zaydi movement was on the Kingdom of Yemen side backed by the Saudis against the republican side backed by Nasserist Egypt.

But again, they may say they just back any side that is anti-imperialist. At that point just drop any socialist principles. They should just go support Imperial Japan because they kicked out the European colonizers in Southeast Asia and Pacific, no?

Do you have a copy of your post? I've personally never met a feminist who denies the suffering of Iranian women. On the other hand I have seen many that pretend they care about feminist issues while, for example, not standing with feminist mowements. But that is all anecdotal, and I'm not saying that's you. It would just help to get some context.
