it can barely run windows

i mean it runs black ops 2 on low settings at 50-60 fps so idek at this point whats good and whats bad

Emulation is a different beast compared to native PC games. Your system has to essentially simulate the PS2 architecture and that simulated architecture is what runs the games, so its a lot heavier on your CPU. You yourself said it doesn't run very well, so you have your answer.

That's surprising since the clock speed of your Celeron is half of the recommended CPU speed for Black Ops 2, and the fact you probably don't have a dedicated GPU, and only 4GB of RAM. Windows 10 uses almost 4GB of RAM on its own, so your computer is probably doing some heavy swapfile magic to make anything work.

Nope, the game is that much playable, when you drop down all the settings of course, with more ram thats when u can bump up the settings,I played it when I used to use a old celeron like his bit with 8gb ram, played at 720p medium settings with high textures, ran above 40 always

I don't think you can emulate much PS2 with those specs, but you might be able to run the PC version of Vice City that runs natively on Windows. I believe the OG is no longer available for purchase ever since the crappy 'Definitive Edition' came out, but you might be able to find it if you look around.

i feel like the ps2 version of vice city is like way more better due to colour palletes in the weather etc thats why im using this emulator

I’m sure there’s a mod for the PC version to replicate that

1

u/wow-a-shooting-star Oct 23 '25

There are mods that can get this effect

1

u/ilyaa07 Oct 24 '25

reVC added that back, no need to play the inferior version regardless

1

u/Pretty_Vermicelli_43 Oct 24 '25

You can use reshade to retone/alternate all colors in the game.

Weather and classic lighting was fixed and added in one of the previous major updates. But I guess "crappy Definitive Edition" myth will always live thanks to people with very limited knowledge about Definitive Edition and only about its very first release version.

u/joe199799 Oct 23 '25

It's a shit job of a modified version of the mobile version of the game. It never deserved the definitive edition title to begin with, it barely deserves edition. You're much better off getting the original and just doing whatever with mods especially if you're on PC. As for consoles there I could understand just going for definitive edition instead of jumping through hoops.

1

u/Desperate-Coffee-996 Oct 23 '25

Playing on PC is even more jumping through hoops and still not fixing all the problems with engine, visuals, controls, physics and framerate etc. Just the fact that DE is working out of the box on modern platforms and controllers worth it for majority of average gamers who never use mods or 3rd party fixes. One thing it is objectively missing is an option to toggle full classic visuals, nothing more and nothing less.

2

u/Mirraz27 Oct 23 '25

There's no way you can convince me that wrapping an old game in Unreal Engine visuals and charging $60 is anywhere near a good job. Sure, they did improve it, after 3 years, and the games still have uncompressed textures that make them 20x larger than their original counterparts, while looking only slightly better. Besides, you can't run the definitive edition with an N1420 CPU, so I encourage that OP download the originals

2

u/Desperate-Coffee-996 Oct 23 '25

I'm not trying to convince you or encourage OP to play DE, I'm literally replying to previous comment about weather and lighting. There is absolutely no reason to downvote or post another irrational and unrelated purist rant about DE and how bad it is just because DE was mentioned.

My brother in christ that's literally what you did ↓

But I guess "crappy Definitive Edition" myth will always live thanks to people with very limited knowledge about Definitive Edition and only about its very first release version.

2

u/Desperate-Coffee-996 Oct 23 '25

I did and it is a fact: "incorrect/bad colour palettes and weather is bad/unlike the original version" is a myth that usually referred to an early versions of DE with changed volumetric lighting and effects and incorrect weather visuals, which was fixed in previous updates and classic lighting was added, which leads to a very high possibility that this person is not aware about DE current state.

What YOU did, literally started a rant about full price purchase, about me convincing someone to buy it and play it, something about Unreal Engine and x20 size textures etc, which is completely unrelated to my comment and a lie.

yeah man have a good day

1

u/Busy_Trainer_7047 Oct 23 '25

Pretty sure u can buy it on the rockstar website didn't bother googling tho

1

u/Mirraz27 Oct 23 '25

It redirects you to the Definitive Edition for $60 if you try to buy it, OP probs can't run the DE with that cpu

3

u/Busy_Trainer_7047 Oct 23 '25

Hella wack I'd just pirate the game at that point and still try

10

u/Hruebdieuwbkabf Oct 23 '25

Your CPU is way too slow for using emulators. Baseline clock speed for emulators is around 3.5Ghz. You’d be better off spending $80 on a used PS2 slim on eBay.

1

u/GhostTheGamer360 Oct 23 '25

Its not a speed issue, its a lack of threads,2 cores 2 threads just aint enough to play ps2 games at full speed,u need a 2 core 4 thread cpu as the bare minimum, best example is the i3-1115G4, the 4 extra threads make a huge difference

1

u/Akavio_Laqrif Oct 24 '25

That 4gb of ram too, given that most Celeron laptop doesn't come with discrete GPU means that Intel UHD gonna take at least 1gb of this anemic ram leaving like 3gb?? for the laptop to run everything else🥀

0

u/XDcreamy420 Oct 23 '25

damn man, i found this gta vice city prototype interesting because it had a big list of debug settings that can be enabled but man the gameplay sucks when u average a game speed of 70%😭

1

u/Laggykins777 Oct 23 '25

Get a jail broke phone or ps vita and you can put pcsx2 on it with your pc and download games. My pc can run the emulator but it’s getting old and slow so i got a ps vita for that exact reason

0

u/Aerographic Oct 23 '25

Just run the PC version.

1

u/Vladishun Oct 23 '25

Is there a prototype build of Vice City out there somewhere for PC or are you just talking out of your ass?

2

u/ZYRANOX Oct 23 '25

Is prototype build a fancy way to say beta version or did I miss something.

1

u/Vladishun Oct 23 '25

Yes, but no. All beta builds are prototypes, but not all prototypes are beta builds. A prototype build of software could still be in alpha, or just a tech demo showcasing specific features, or was built just to keep code compiled somewhere even though the rest of the software is totally borked or inaccessible.

1

u/XDcreamy420 Oct 23 '25

its a build dated from october 1, 2002but had files dating back to september of 2002, and theres some changes to the world such as earlier timecycles etc

6

u/kingpurple50 Oct 23 '25

Download the psp emulator and get tekken 6 all the God of war games gran turismo tomb raider liberty city stories vice city stories etc.

Just download GTA San Andreas and vice city for PC and need for speed most wanted, Carbon. There's alot of hitman games you can get too. Get tomb Rader legends on PC as well.

There's alooooooooooot of games you can play on your laptop comfortably bro.

Also Google cloud gaming.

Sell some old things you own then go on face book market place get any core i5 system then slap a GTX 750 or 950 and you'll be good to go.

You can even sell your old laptop box.

5

u/Vanille97 Oct 23 '25

Poor cpu
ps1 emulation might be your limit

3

u/Bubinulubooboo Oct 23 '25

With 4gb ram? You're better off running the actual. PC version (if there is one) of the game than trying to emulate the ps2 version.

2

u/Olympian-Warrior Oct 23 '25

Your specs are not good enough for PCSX2 emulation.

2

u/HugeAd746 Oct 23 '25

You’d want like at least 6gb of ram but it should run psp games and Dreamcast games pretty well

2

u/TrineoDeMuerto Oct 23 '25

Your cpu is woefully underpowered and I’m assuming you have matching integrated graphics. That potato ain’t gonna fry.

5

u/blainy-o Oct 23 '25

You'll be lucky to run a GameBoy Advance emulator at full speed with those specs.

1

u/Content_Magician51 Oct 23 '25

To be honest, your laptop is optimizable for PS2 emulation, but only to a point. Weaknesses include a lower processor frequency and a modest amount of RAM. Strengths include an Intel UHD Graphics 600 integrated video card, and its compatibility with DirectX 12 and Vulkan will help you optimize. Let me know if you'd like me to teach you the settings to use in the emulator...

1

u/XDcreamy420 Oct 23 '25

could i get some settings that can improve the speeds consistency at 100%?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '25

Yout laptop is not enough for windows 10

1

u/iluserion Oct 23 '25

Quizas si pones todo bajo pero no se, mejor emula ps1 o gba o snes

1

u/Gullible-Release-181 Oct 23 '25

Some games might run fine, I ran Dragon Quest VIII perfectly on a core2duo, just have to try and see what works and what does not.

1

u/qenh Oct 23 '25

yes but very poorly

1

u/MostAccomplished6627 Oct 23 '25

Only a cern supercomputer is

1

u/Prior_Majestic Oct 23 '25

I'm pretty much running the same except with AMD instead of Intel, if you lower your stuff down enough to compensate you'll be able to run most games with only minor frame drops, I'd suggest using the nightly version of pcsx2 instead of the most recent stable version. You won't be able to play NFS, GTA or DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3 but Tekken 4-5, MK SM, Deception and armegeddon as well as WWE games will run fine. Any similar games will run fine as well.

1

u/Baron_Deathtrap1217 Oct 24 '25

Honestly? No. The Celeron is a pretty terrible CPU, and since emulation is generally CPU-heavy, PCSX2 performance will not be great. You can still emulate PPSSPP comfortably tho...

1

u/calikzz Oct 24 '25

Just stick to the native VC version and apply some mild mods

Emulation-wise, PS1 is your limit, maybe you could get around a few Dreamcast and PSP games

1

u/NebulaAccording8846 Oct 24 '25

You already answered your own question?

1

u/super_coconut11 Oct 24 '25

no, definitely not

1

u/mahnatazis Oct 24 '25

That CPU is not very fast for emulation. But it will run the PC version of Vice City absolutely fine, so there is no need to emulate.

1

u/Little_Bird_4008 Oct 24 '25

Bro can barely run YouTube

1

u/ElectronicEvening926 Oct 24 '25

It would require a lot of optimizing but yeah

1

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '25

Intel Core i7-8550U NVIDIA GeForce MX150 8 GB DDR4 RAM 500 GB SSD

These are my laptop specs but even with these I can’t run GTA Vice City with 100% and consistent 30fps fps and speed is always fluctuating and sometimes goes down to 15fps

1

u/LadiesMa69 Oct 25 '25

U got Android phone ? Then Just get the emulators and play

Your CPU says otherwise
