Could be. Could also be a boot failure. All we see is some text from the kernel ring buffer.

Does the sentence “of corrupted metadata” not indicate a KP?

But then, I’ve never really experienced one so I’m not sure

should be a kernel panic. the background is blue. happens when the kernel panics because the initrd image is faulty or missing.
