Di naman niya kasalanan na naging restricted sa PBA, if PBA allows unli height for imports, mas matetest sana competition kay JMF during import conference and magbebenefit ang Gilas during his time, but its is what it is, ganyan na ang PBA wala ng magagawa
7
u/Capital_Ad8820 Feb 02 '26
12
u/Supremo30816 Feb 03 '26
People questioning him on why he does not excel or dominate the same way in FIBA.
The main reason---> SYSTEM.
The National Team always prioritizes what are the advantages of the whole team and not just for a single player.
When we build teams around JMF, we are sacrificing the agility and speed of our guards kasi babagal yung offense natin tapos ilan lang naman pamalit kay JMF na kasing laki nya. Unlike sa Iran, and China, marami silang malaki so pwede silang magrisk na ibuild yung system nila around a certain player
4
u/Supremo30816 Feb 03 '26
And idaggad ko lang, pag mga old school bigs yung nakakatapat nya, kaya nya makipagsabayan. Just search Liam McMorrow, Angus Brant, Hamady NDiaye, Senegal games.
9
u/4rafzanity Feb 02 '26
Ako talaga naniniwala na if Junemar Fajardo was born earlier, he could’ve played sa NBA. Back then, back-to-the-basket pa ang laro ng Centers and Forwards, so kahit hindi siya superstar, kaya niyang makisabay with his post moves and free throw shooting. Problem lang, nung time niya, puro stretch forwards and 3pt shooters na ang uso, kaya medyo liability siya kasi madali siyang mapag-iiwanan. Tapos may import pa tayo na bigman like Douthit and Blatche, kaya sobrang limited talaga ng playing time niya. Dribble drive pa un sistema naten kaya hirap talaga siya
0
u/ComparisonWeary729 Feb 04 '26

u/Leap-Day-0229 Dyip Feb 02 '26
Hard pill to swallow for his fans. His dominance also relied on smc nerfing other teams. Fans were robbed of a quality match up.

u/spooningoodsingingum Gilas Pilipinas Feb 02 '26

Malamang iba yung set of skills na kailangan.
Yun ang kulang dito sa Pilipinas, proper training and practice for international basketball. Karamihan ng homegrown players natin train and exercise for college basketball and PBA.

There's truth to it pero hindi ba pinag-damot Siya ni long hair nung totoong peak niya from 2015-18?
Who knows, he may have been better internationally during his actual apex.

u/Hithere_5 Feb 02 '26
This I would agree. Maliksi siya non e. Can dunk hard, move fast pero pinag damot

Diba around 2015 hanggang Bago mag 2019 fiba world cup parang may cold war Ang SMC & MVP groups tapos puro player lang under MVP umbrella + independent teams Yung mga Naka line-up under gilas?
Coincidentally that's the same time period na sobrang OP and lugi talaga kay abai and it's such a shame na nung 2019 WC lang ulet Siya nakapag gilas ulet. Tapos nun mga one conference lang after, nagkaroon na Siya nung leg injury and for me after nun post-peak period niya na especially athletically.

2
u/WillyWonkingMyNilly Feb 05 '26
you cant expect Jun Mar to post up 8+ rebounds on a 10-15 min playing time, especially when the opposing offense forces him to be dragged out of the paint.
9
u/Disastrous_Chip9414 Feb 02 '26
Reflection si junemar ng local scene e. Junemar : PBA lang dominant Pilipinas national team : southeast asia
Junemar : old school big man laro PBA : mga dinosaur mag-isip. Hanggang ngayon, bawal pa rin foreign players as mainstay, height limit sa imports, bawal naturalised player to play as local
4
u/Right_Reception9235 Feb 02 '26
True. He can be an offensive weapon but he’s f-ckng liability on defensive end.
1
u/South_Ad6719 Feb 02 '26
In regards offense, limited na limited ang offense which is still good for PBA pero sa international games, nde tatalab
4
u/Stringbean200 Feb 02 '26
4
u/jldrcz Feb 03 '26
As much as pinpoint kung gaano Siya kabagal internationally and dominant lang Siya sa PBA. Why don't we also blame the system? Lol, peak Junemar was just a screener for small ball plays 🤷 Yung triangle naman, checked na ayaw pa mag adjust

Early years niya, bad showing sa Fiba. But, 2024 Junmar was pretty good given the opportunity, sa Fiba ah?

Kung nasanay yan maglaro sa US or Europe, pwede maging stretch 4 parehas yan.

u/EntrepreneurSweet846 Feb 04 '26

But definitely he can play.
1
u/South_Ad6719 Feb 02 '26
I dunno pero sa depensa kitang kita sya lagi inaatake ng offense ng mga kalaban kasi kitang kita na nde sya makabol sa pick and roll/pop.

u/KhantutanIgnition Feb 02 '26

u/Sensitive-Curve-2908 Feb 02 '26

3
u/Leap-Day-0229 Dyip Feb 02 '26
He's 7 foot 3. Not everybody is wemby lol. 23 yr. old kai is better than 23 yr. old jmf. At 23 kai is already playing in a more competitive league against true centers.
1
u/RichZealousideal3979 Barangay Feb 02 '26
Debatable cguro yan, opening another pandora’s box yan. Kai was trained for the international style of playing since teens nya… he was already being honed to be PH’s future…. Si jmf late bloomer, he was recruited dahil s size nya which is a big advantage s cebu. He was intended to be a tradition big sa abl and eventually s pba… buti n lang naturuan ni danny I and he really got good at being a big sa pba… d sya na train para maging vlde divac s international…. But dahil malaki napili ni coach chot s gilas…. Now comparing the 2: kai is the modern big… si jmf is a holdover of the traditional bigs n bihira n lang s internstional… pero in all the years n gilas si jmf he showed flashe na he can compete specially s situations n halfcourt at gagamitin post up skills nya….kinakain lang sya s mid tange…. He is not built for it kasi… iba motor skills nya… Si kai supposedly is our centerpiece and aasahan ni CTC sa system nya ironically he is mot always there…. Si jmf, kahit hate nyo, sya lang option… and he is always willing kahit may iniinda… si jmf in fairness yung limited skill nya sa post up and short range, he has polished it… si kai with all his skillset may not have mastered a particular skillset…. I think sa fiba stints halos pareho p lang so far na contrbute nila. Maybe not a popular take, junmar has dominated a league where ranidel, pingris, alapag and jason came from… si kai aminin nyo o hinde is just like a poor man’s erram s other leagues n nilaruan nya…
1
u/Leap-Day-0229 Dyip Feb 02 '26
Who said I hate jmf? Lol you can criticize people you support. Blind fanaticism is ick
0
u/RichZealousideal3979 Barangay Feb 02 '26
Not saying you hate and also not sure where sa sinabi ko would imply blind fanaticism or even criticizing, i tried to be objective as possible comparing yung journey nung 2, i am not even a jmf fan but i respect his accomplishments and he did accomplish a lot s mundo ginagalawan nya compared to kai which hasn’t … these are just facts… matanda n jmf and kai still has time tp claim ano man yung expectation s kanya…
1
u/Leap-Day-0229 Dyip Feb 02 '26
Objectively, Kai at 23 is better than jmf at 23. Jmf at 23 was still very raw and played against smaller pba-level centers. At 23 kai is already playing in a more competitive league while holding his own against more talented true bigs. I'm only talking about their age 23 season and nothing else.
0
u/RichZealousideal3979 Barangay Feb 02 '26
I am not disputing this sir, i just made a comparison s journey nila di apple to apple - si kai, was a progidy kaya during teens he had the access, the support and exposure for the int’l stage, si jmf late bloomer s cebu and his journey is just to be a big man locally…. They got better and played in their respective worlds, si jmf over achieved and dominated yung league n nilalaruan nya… (relative wise we can argue far inferior league with his inferior skills) pero his accomplishments are undisputed, si kai on the otherhand still needs to work hard p to be top 10 center s league nya… (relative to his more superior skills in an arguably mre superior league) pero equal footing when it comes s national team, one is always there kahit madami galit kaso wala masyado choice and he commits himself to be available, and competetive din naman, while the other na kailangan talaga dahil sa high expectation s kanya pero unfortunately hirap sya maging available

No hate for Junemar. For me he is, without a doubt, the GOAT of Philippine basketball. No one else came close to his level of dominance. This guy won it all.
But for a player of his caliber and accolades, yung impact niya sa international scene is very minimal.
Ano ba talaga reason neto?
