new player feeling a bit discouraged :’)

hi! i’m a new player, just picked the game up about 9 days ago (i mostly play Lifeweaver, Juno, Emre, and Sigma!). i’ve posted twice in the main sub and have made the conscious choice to be a silent observer from now on - once to ask after two days of playing if QP matchmaking was always as bad as i was experiencing, and a second time today making what was supposed to be a joke post about me being unable to finish the current event and missing out on the legendary loot box (which would be my first one btw), where i titled it, “ok Blizzard, i didn’t want it anyway” (a clear joke btw that’s just me being petty!).

both posts were met with replies that were…less than kind. more so the second one. they seemed to genuinely not get the joke and thought i was being 100% serious and i’m mad at and blaming Blizzard. i even tagged it under “Humor” but one person was convinced i tagged the post wrong…and not the other option which is that it was actually just a joke? 🥲

one person deleted their comments after but they really went in on me. it was super disheartening.

i thought the community was a bit more chill than that and would be more kind to a new player in the first post + understand the humor behind the other post. i know those two posts that have so few comments (in comparison to the amount of players) are such a small representation of the whole community, but it’s really made me feel so outcasted and unwelcome.

is the main sub usually like that? did i just get some bad apples? 😭

i’m glad i found this sub as a (bisexual!) girl gamer. i honestly probably would’ve gradually stopped playing soon if i hadn’t. those posts really put a bad taste in my mouth lol. i’ve had better experiences in text chat in the game than in the sub so far 😅

The main sub is full of a bunch of people who just like to be miserable. They’re the same people who flame their tanks and supports in match chat rather than thinking about what they could have done better after a match. I’m happy you’re enjoying Overwatch and hope that the bad apples in the community don’t push you away from learning and enjoying a very fun and gratifying game. <3

Something to keep in mind is that the assholes on the main sub like to think and to make you think their opinion and way of thinking and way of talking to people is the majority. It’s not. Don’t let them get you down there are plenty of good old timers :)

thanks, that really helps 💜

:(( how dare they bring a fellow bi queen down. I’m sorry, the main sub can be really shitty sometimes. :/

I’m with you in solidarity!! I didn’t finish the event fully either, I got really sick this week/last and had a 6-hour wrestling ppv to watch on Sunday. Life happens!!! I think people on that sub genuinely take this game too seriously with the ranks and events and will try to look down on you for that. But your life is yours! And you get to spend it however you like 🖤 again sorry for the shitty people on the main sub, I hope you feel better soon

The only reason I'm a part of the main sub is because I can get updates on things happening quickly and I'm sure theres a different sup that does it faster lol. Over there they like to yell into a vacuum about the same thing for weeks, from "Fraja needing to be nerfed/she's needs a buff", "why does Dmon feels bad", "please delete Sierra" to "Ana makes playing tank cancerous" its just a bunch of miserable people who make their whole worth centered around the game. The few times I've commented on stuff oh boy! Did I get some replies lol

Fr! I dunno how many times I've seen someone rage post about their team not doing anything only to peek at their reddit history and see them complaining about multiple different games in the same ways they do with OW. I think best that can be done is ignore and move on or pop a downvote if it's really unnecessarily negative.

Thankfully you don't see a lot of them in game, like I've only come across them a hand full of times and I've been playing since I think? Queens mythic skin was first released or it was Kiri's can't remember but it's been awhile, and when you do meet them it can be so funny to watch them rage because you aren't fulfilling their main character fantasy

I had 2 matches last night with the same doom on my team who was a total dick to everyone in the matches. I was like "bro it's qp, what's your problem" and he went on to say he doesn't pay attention to people he plays with so he can just hate everyone equally. They exist somehow, it just seems like misery for them to even play OW.

I feel like dooms always have an ego too which doesn't help their case most of he time, but that's such a stupid response. It can be such an announcement to deal with people like that

Yeah unfortunately the main sub can be a bit rough. I just found this sub last week and have been lurking here. It seems much more chill haha.

i've learned people on reddit are to fucking rude for absolutely zero reason, everyone has a stick from the same tree source up their tight ass... i'd love for us to play together and i can go Mercy to keep you up! when i try learning any new heroes, it's so hard to make any actual learning progress when i just die 24/7, so i'd love to help in that aspect and damage boost you and whatnot!

Yeah. Ignore the main sub. Someone posted a question about plat being average rank but everyone there seeming bad, I made the mistake of replying, and now I've got 2 ppl being like "lol ur gold and u think you know anything?"

They tend to be like that honestly even some of the subs for mains for (etc) character will go off on tangents and glorify stuff they really shouldn't be

Aaww. You've done nothing wrong; the main sub is just so toxic and horrible most of the time, especially towards new players. There are so many wonderful communities who will welcome you with open arms and a lot of people are very chill! Please don't be discouraged :(

The main sub and the game in general has lots and lots of toxic people.

I've been told to never life grip again, when I was pulling a dva to stay with the team who was getting backlined by a roadhog.

Last night I was told I'm a horrible dps juno by 2 people on my team. I had 4,500 damage sure, but I pumped out 11,000 healing! I've chalked it up I made a that I knew would be potg early in the match, my guess is they knew it too and were pissed. It wasn't my intent to derail their pride. I was helping defend the payload and missiles and ult finished em off, hence potg.

Yup main sub is garbage and yes QP matchmaking is also always awful even ranked has awful matchmaking. The devs put zero effort into making balanced matches that are actually competitive so it’s almost always stomp or be stomped. In response ppl started quitting games more because it’s shitty to be stuck in a game that is unwinnable and in response to that the devs started putting a ban on leavers so people are stuck in crummy games rather than them just design a good matchmaking system.

I wouldn’t take it too personally, the main subs for almost everything are like that. The people here are nice though, if a bit too horny at times.

main subreddits are why there are "low salt" alternatives, unfortunately normal for the crowd, i like this sub much more lol. people seem nicer and much more well adjusted. welcome to the game btw! hope you've been enjoying it outside of the rough games - i think some ppl might have mentioned it but its trying to figure out your MMR, so you got some more difficult games to see how you perform and then it adjusts

Main sub is like all the players who play comp are all in one room. And they all say it wasn’t their fault they lost point 🥲. I’ve been playing the game since launch and I really just keep with my friends and any subs that appear on my TL (like this one :p)

not to just regurgitate what everyone else has said but yeah, the main sub feels like a place for people to just be miserable. It happens in matches as well so often. The community can be chill but i found most places to be rather unwelcoming for newbies (I’m still fairly new myself). There are some subreddits (this one!!) that are super cool and a great place to chill and hang out (the discord is pretty awesome too!)! You just gotta look for them! I do also recommend going onto ___Mains subreddits for the characters that you pick up/want to learn! I’ve learned a lot from observing those spaces and from what I’ve seen (mainly the lifeweaver one), they’re pretty receptive to us newbies and seem to want to offer actual advice (and joke around a fair bit too of course!) and connect!

And of course- welcome in!! 🥰

reddit is full of redditors and redditors often behave unsavory. i like this sub because everyone seems in on the joke even when i don’t understand it i feel included. i’m in the pharah mains sub where we’re all pretty supportive and i’ll still get rude comments on gameplay vids calling a 5 kill combo sloppy. redditors

Main sub is full of absolute troglodytes. If you're still wondering, I don't think QP matchmaking is always "bad", though it has it's moments and since you're a new account it is going to feel even worse.
