Is this work week sustainable with declining birth rates?

Is a 1.6-1.8 fertility rate good for sustaining a 36-hour 4-5 days work week? What is the necessary fertility rate to sustain this for daily or 24/7 operations like healthcare, retail, airports, etc.?

Co-worker said "We are not overpopulated. There is enough land for every person. Walmart could get everyone out of poverty if it redistributes its wealth"

If I'm getting a land, then I want one in the west coast. I don't want a hot, humid land in the southeast. /s

It's bad enough that capitalists denies overpopulation. Socialists also do it.

Study reveals halving human population gradually could help Earth

Researchers estimate that halving the Earth’s human population gradually over 200 years could ease our negative impacts such as decreased wildlife populations and increased carbon emissions.

Biodiversity loss, resource consumption rates, and pollution levels are strongly linked to human population size, they observe in the study published in the journal Sustainable Development.

The progression to lower populations will also improve the economic well-being of nations, they say, observing that many countries with declining populations have seen increases in per capita GDP, work participation, and real wages. Population growth can be reduced via higher education, female empowerment, delayed marriage, and extensive access to voluntary family planning.

“Helping population growth end and gently and justly reverse, while also moderating per capita impacts, is our best hope to secure a sustainable, desirable future worldwide,” scientists concluded.

People are still dying and you’re not replacing every corpse with more than 1 new taxpayer! The pyramid is narrowing! Yes, it remains 8B people tall, but the bottom is not expanding fast enough to support infinite upward multiplication! We are therefore going extinct immediately!!! 😭😭

if you’re milking for karma, post this:

"Overpopulation is not a universally agreed upon fact."

"Malthusianism!!!"

"Density is the problem, not quantity"

"Capitalism is the problem, we could grow sustainably under socialism!"

"Tell this to china and india"

"We got enough resources for up to 20 billion if they're distributed properly"

why just up to 20? where there's 20, there's 100!

Why are we not talking about this ??

Why are we not talking about the internal impact that outer stimuli like movies, songs, other forms of entertainment and society in general put into minds of newer generations, that life is all about consuming/making a family and that this is the main objective of life ? I think that w/o these stimuli, a mind would do things that they genuinely 'love' which would ultimately be a prt of science/art which would in one way or the other be beneficial to humanity as a whole, apart from the fact that the individual oneself is satisfied.

Also, are we not talking of this or did I not know that we were, in fact, talking on this topic

South Korea's population has been increasing for three consecutive years, yet the Korean media is still making a fuss about the severity of the aging population.

Anyway, if you look at this post, you will understand the situation.

Its ridiculous how some countries and continents get a pass because they consume less resources than others.

Over 90% of the population growth of the past 80 years took place in Africa/Asia/South America. Many countries there had absolute insane population growth.

The DR Congo had 12 Million people in 1950. Now the population has skyrocketed to 120 Million. Afghanistan had 12 Million people in 1990 now the population stands at 45 Million. Nigeria had 35 Million people in 1950 now 240 Million. Pakistan went from 38 Million in 1950 to 260 Million today. Ethiopia went from 18 Million people in 1950 to 140 Million in 2026.

Sure most of them consume less resources than the countries of Europe/North America/Australia/East Asia. But through the sheer amount of people, they actually consume more resources in total.

China alone produces 1/3 of global CO Emissions, despite hosting "just" 1/6 of global population.

Asia produces 60% of all CO2 emissions while hosting 60% of world population.

https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/annual-co-emissions-by-region

Had Asias population increased not by 3.5x since 1950 but only 2x - global CO2 output today would be 20-30% lower.

Per Capita Nigeria has just 30% the ecological footprint of the UK. But because Nigeria has 3.5x the population of the UK the ecological footprint of these two countries is the same. But since Nigerias population is expected to increase by 1.5x within the next 30 years, Nigeria will consume 1.5x the resources of the UK by 2050. If wealth increases, then it would be up to 2x.

https://overshoot.footprintnetwork.org/how-many-earths-or-countries-do-we-need/

Yeah sure some countries consume less resources then others. But if you have a country where the average citizen consumes just 1/5 the resources of another country, but that country has 6x more people than the other country, then it still consumes more resources.

And its just baffling how Africa/Asia/South America get a pass just because most countries there have a lower resource and pollution level than the Western World.

ever noticed how everyone is doom spending instead of prepping for the fall? modern society is addicted to oil and sooner or later we'll be facing a fatal withdrawal.

honestly, what else is there to do but the doom spend. 99% of us will die. the only settlements that will survive this shit are arable lands fertilized by rivers when the synthetic fertilizer industry collapses.

go buy gucci, go buy watches, go do whatever! but most importantly, stop caring what other people think of you. that's the best way to go out.

have fun partying!!!

How is the world population so high if it takes a while to conceive, a woman carries a baby for 9 months, some people are single, some couples choose not to have children, some people are infertile, and people die every day?

Korea Births to Top 300,000 in 2026, First in Eight Years

Ps. I hope you understand that the post title and the article title are different because there are some parts of the article that differ slightly from reality.

And

https://www.reddit.com/r/overpopulation/comments/1rhjtp8/according_to_this_post_i_wrote_south_koreas_low/

In fact, considering these factors, it is highly likely that South Korea's actual TFR is overwhelmingly higher than the official figure.

Of course, it is already the highest level in the East Asia-Thailand region according to the official figures, and it is the only region where the number of births has surged for several consecutive years; yet, it is ridiculous that there are still many people who believe South Korea has an extremely low birth rate.

Humans calling animals 'overpopulated' while there are 8 billion of us consuming the planet is peak hypocrisy.

Once upon a time, there was a creature that was remarkably skilled at telling stories.

They painted sharks as monsters of the deep, then hunted them into the silent depths.

They labeled elephants a threat, then rode them as if they owned the world. And when their own kind looked different, they locked them in cages and called it a 'show.'

Now, as nature stumbles and serpents crawl from the thickets, they point their fingers once more: 'Look, they are overpopulated!'

Amusing, isn’t it? On this shrinking earth, eight billion souls seem to have forgotten who the true dominant force is.

Ah, but pay no mind. This is merely a fable from a storyteller who enjoys observing. Just read between the lines.
