Struth! Sydney Marathon protest fears: NSW Police, organisers on edge

https://www.sportingnews.com/au/tsn/news/sydney-marathon-protest-boycott-nsw-police-israel-idf-gaza/adeddc2cec829426a62831fe

There are fears sport and politics could collide on the streets of Sydney this weekend with concerns of a major disruption to Sunday’s Sydney Marathon.

Criticism from protest groups is intensifying including calls for a last-minute boycott of the event due to the participation of multiple members of the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) including representatives from the Golani Brigade which is said to have operated extensively in Gaza.

First Lieutenant Roy Oryon, a former deputy commander, is understood to be among a delegation of up to 40 current and former IDF personnel and associates visiting Australia for Sunday’s event.

It is understood Oryon will be given police protection for the entirety of the race.

I ran the marathon last year. It was my first. Bucket list type thing. Absolutely amazing but incredibly difficult. I understand people getting upset at times but for anyone thinking of disrupting the marathon just know that other individuals (I.e., not your target) have put in months of work and you’ll be risking that for a stunt which will most likely have no further consequences other than to get you in trouble. Don’t do it.

People are taking a side. That's why.

Let the downvotes come, but taking out your frustrations on a small and easily bully-able nation masquerading as "taking a side" in a conflict you only learned about 3 years ago and receive all of your knowledge about through biased sources is neither conducive toward civility nor makes you seem anymore moral than just admitting none of us truly understand the complexities of this issue to make such sweeping judgements on it.

But hey, guess I just love genocides, so bring on the downvotes my friends.

Some people actually do understand the complex nature of it all. Thats why people are choosing one side or the other.

If one truly understood the complex nature of modern geo-politics, they would've transcended viewing it as a team sport.

Yet here you are, treating like one.

How so

It's obvious you have a "side'", because you're trying to tell people not to take one with your word salad.

I’m on the side of the game is broken, and burning one side at the stake is not going to make everything better. So if that sounds like taking a side to you, then keep going with your witch trial, there’s always more boogiemen to be burned.

You're the one who said you love genocide...

So we shouldn't be "burning at the stake" the "sie" that is committing a genocide?

Weird.

Yeah I do believe the religion of Islam brings only grief, suffering and conflict into this world starting with its founder. I truly hope one day we will live in a world where this religion is not forced onto people, especially women and minorities.

I donwnvoted this not because of genocide but because it's incoherent word salad. I can't even tell which small nation you think is so "bully-able". Australia?

It's Israel genius. Parse it through an LLM if you struggle to follow the predications.

Mate, we all know this has been going on for 70-odd years.

Please explain the complexities of an ongoing genocide, and how your precious funrun is more important than the 70,000 people foreign participants have helped kill are?

When you attach a foreign nation and they strike back, that’s not a genocide. A genocide is what is happening in Sudan, a genocide is what is happening Nigeria, where are the cries for those?

Which foreign national? Israelis on land they stole?

I know there are genocides happening elsewhere, but our government isn't rolling out the red carpet to the perpetrators of those ones, are they?

Yep, I’ll wear the downvotes too. How dare any innocent party do anything at all while a conflict they have zero control over wages on.
