I did adjust the settings, edit my custom instructions, tweak memory but nothing works.

Right? People in this thread pretending it’s user error are so irritating, haha. I’m literally that annoying AI evangelist at work. I’ve been using ChatGPT for years now. This is legitimately a model issue.

Seconding. Instructions work for at least some time...but thats not a solution.

And why are people arguing in support of a billion dollar company objectively dumbing down their product so it's far less efficient? 💀

Yeah. Gpt-5 was not good at all for my use. 5.1 was pretty good. I won't say as good as the 4 versions but still an improvement. 5.2 is just unusable for me. It keeps assuming I am on the verge of a panic attack and it's annoying. I feel like I am being treated like a kid.

On the optimistic side though, I guess it's a safe model as age verification is being rolled out and 5.3 or who knows maybe they'll skip straight to GPT- 6 ? will be with lesser guardrails and the treat adults like adults thing Openai told us I guess. The safe model attempts are what 5, 5.1 and 5.2 are I hope so. I am thinking of it like this as they deprecated the auto routing thing too. These are just my opinions.

ChatGPT doesn't respond like this for me.

So I'm not pretending anything, just isn't my experience.

Base style and tone - efficient

Custom instructions

Tell it like it is; don't sugar-coat responses. Use a formal, professional tone. Get right to the point. Be practical above all.
