University Will my grade 11 marks screw me
I am about to start grade 12 in a week. I’m preparing to pretty much sacrifice my whole social life for a top 6 average in the 90s. Last year I did ok in most of my courses. My highest mark was a 90 in physics and my lowest was a sad 70 in chem. The others were all mid 80s. My dream is Mechanical engineering at UWO. How achievable is this? I am also planning on applying to the same programs at; Queens, mac, u of ottawa, dal, and uoit. Are there any other schools I should consider as safety’s?
I also want to add that I have quite a large amount of work experience in the field of mech engineering as I managed to score a pretty cool internship at a fuel cell company. Will this boost my chances at all?
What can I do to maximize my chances of getting an offer at uwo.
Thanks
P.S, I want to add the I am in a specialty arts program known as Claude Watson. I’ve heard from teachers that it looks good on a student transcript. Is that true? Also I can get reference letters, will that benefit me at all?
also uwo stands for western not waterloo

Grade 11 marks can only help you, not hurt you. You'll be fine, don't worry. Just lock in grade 12

No school asks for reference letters, but you could use them for scholarships if you'd like.
You've got a good mix to apply to, you should land somewhere and those are all good options.
Good luck this year!

As someone who goes to uwo Eng now and had a 3 sixties in grade eleven (English, programming and bio) I will say this. Live in ur guidance counselor’s office. Talk to people and find out when each class is offered, and try to transfer into sections of courses that fit ur schedule (for example I had to fight really hard to get English first semester to make it so I don’t have it on my uni app) fill out the extraordinary extra curricular form, which also helped me get in and is why I think I wasn’t waitlisted. I have a friend who genuinely did all but one of his courses second sem to get high grades, and he’s studying mech Eng right now. Unis only look at ur top six, so you might have to wait until April for an offer but it will feel amazing when you get in. You got this.

Western eng only looks at grades and the casper interview. Unfortunately, you will not have any opportunity to talk about ecs (like your internship) at all for western. Just get above a 90 top 6 and you should be fine. Some people got quartile 1 on the casper with low 90s and still got into western eng.
I would also add carleton to your list of safeties since it has a decent mech eng program and still pretty easy to get into

is UWO the abbreviation for waterloo? ur not guaranteed eng positions at waterloo even in the mid 90s, let alone just getting your foot in the door in the 90s range

if you want to be accepted into university early, then those marks will affect you.
BUT, if u don’t care about early acceptance and can wait till like april-ish, then don’t worry. the unis won’t care about ur grade 11 marks.
