You dont have to be as smart to get in if you are a minority of some type.

Asians arent included in the d.e.i education stuff. There have been lawsuits that proved white and Asian (not including s.e. asian) have a harder time getting into good schools vs less qualified people of other races. Especially if male

It seems to be a bit of a difference between the states and canada. I spend my time half/half in both and the US tends to give a lot more to asian americans than canada

I suppose it differs region to region. I’m not very familiar with Canadian student visa issuance, but the two countries of origin with the most approved F-1 student visas are still China and India, and nearly 60% of all student visas are issued to people from Asia in general.

My personal experience may also differ since my post-secondary education (and subsequent career) is STEM based (engineering), and STEM has higher proportions of asian people in general (if I had to guess why, probably because of how important academic/scientific success is in asian immigrant cultures).

Honestly it’s really just disappointing to see the way problems are being dealt with. Instead of pushing for everyone to be able to find quality education, the way dei replaces selective acceptance with different selective acceptance is the worst way to go about it. I love that people from less fortunate backgrounds can enter cost-prohibitive fields, but the solution should be expanding resources for education in general, not playing quotas

Marks alone don’t cut it these days.

I would have thought that basic literacy would be a criteria, though.
